Your new bike looks great!

If I can get past the construction on my road, I'm heading out for a brick this afternoon.  I've had clipless pedals for about a week now, and the bike shoes arrived yesterday, so I'm going out today to try them out and hopefully not fall over.  Later today, I should be getting the rest of my race gear, and a wetsuit next week.  It's been like Christmas!  Smile  Oh, and my last day of work until the end of August is tomorrow!

Sweet bike, I like the color.

James - give yourself credit, looks like you misplaced 1800 yds.  You may want them later.

James... Great training session!

ladlehaus...   Your gonna love clipin shoes!  Soooo much better.  My feet moved around on regular pedals, and made my feet go numb.  When I first suggested it to Renae, she thought I was nuts.  Now where both hooked!  Literally!  lol!

Next tri up for me, is another of the Girls Tri Too series July 31st.  Same mini-sprint format, different location.   I'll be rockin' my new bike!

I usally fall over once a year with clip ins! I tend to unclip left and lean right when getting off my bike. It usually haooens when I ride with a new group or people that do not know me, so I look like the newbie all the time!

tomorrow's plan: 1000 ys OWS, 2 hour ride and 2 mile run Whew!  Trust the plan right????

James and Scott, I hope someday I can do the workouts that you guys do.  James, will be thinking of you on the 19th.

Ladelhaus, you will love the clips.  My first time out I fell over, forgot I was clipped in.

Next up for me is a 50mi ride, Sweet Corn Ride.  We get shirts AND a bag of sweet corn!

My first ride with the clip ins went really well.  Faster ride.  Sometimes it felt like I was pulling the pedals back and up instead of pushing them down.  I probably should be doing both, right?  The only thing with the new shoes/pedals is for the last mile or so, I had a pain in the ankle, up the front of the tibia to the knee.  As soon as I stopped riding, it stopped.  Maybe readjust the seat for the new pedals?

I did very nearly fall once.  The parking area for the trail where I ride is dirt and gravel.  I hit a spot of mud, and my back tire instantly stopped and spun.  Somehow though my foot came out to catch me. Laughing

I also got a pair of jammers, and what a difference in the swim.

A suggestion on the lower leg pain is to try to keep a target cadence of 85-95 rpm using your gearing.  I am typically right at 90 rpm, but everyone is slightly different.  This will help keep stresses low and not wear your legs out before the run.

As far as seat adjustment, the height of the seat should let your knee be -slightly- bent at the bottom of the crank.  Your pain could be a symptom of a less than optimum bike fit.  If you have a good LBS with fit equipment, a typical fit may be $60-75.

You are right, you should pull / push.  Think circles as you are pedaling.  Some people describe it as scraping mud from the bottom of your shoe as you bring each foot through the bottom part of the crank rotation.  At first, this will take a lot of concentration to do for extended periods.

I feel the need to buy another bike.  A new ride is a great feeling and reinvigorates training (at least for a little while).

Beautiful bike - should be worth at least 5 mph!!  No pressure.....

I have had the hardest few months but I think I'm finally back! I biked/ran/swam durning those few months but not as much as I would have liked. Now I am trying to get into a good routine. But first, off to the beach for a long weekend.

James... congrats!  I know the run portion isn't what you would have wanted.  But when it's THAT hot, a finish is a finish.  Heat does funny things to your body & brain.

I pick up my bike Thur!  Woo-hoo!!  So excited!  And I'm finally gonna take some swim lessons at the beg. of July.  I'm just not progressing.

Good job James, a finish is a finish, the times are still impressive, and you were soooo much faster than all those who are still sitting on the couch.  Running in the heat is hard.

I can also relate to the heat.  Hot day in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Sunday.  Here are my results from the Ozark Valley Triathlon.  I have not done the Race Log just yet.

Overall 120/212
AG 12/18
2:13:43

Swim 24:37 1000 yds (Very happy)
Bike 59:26 19 miles (Good, could have pushed a little harder)
Run 45:04 4 miles (73 year old man dusted me)

I feel like the run course got the best of me, so I'll be back again next year for a rematch.

Congratulations on both of your races Scott and James!  I'll be trying hard to beat your times in my much shorter sprint this weekend.  Someday I'll be swimming, biking, and running that fast.

It must be getting close to my first race because I had my first triathlon nightmare last night.  The race was about to start, and I was in the river with a bunch of other people.  As I look around, half the people don't have a swim cap on.  I don't either. We all had forgotten to check in for the race!  Then I realized that I had forgotten all my new gear at home. I laughed when I woke up.  I figure that it's like the dream that every college student has sometime where it's the end of the semester and they forgot to go to a class all semester.

My race is on Sunday.  It's about an hour away.  They are having packet pickup on Friday and Saturday. Is early packet pickup something mandatory, or could I get it the day of the race at registration?  I'll probably go get it anyway out of plain excitement.  I drove the bike course the other day on our way through.  I was relieved to not find any huge hills  Laughing.  There is a little ice cream place about 3/4 of the way through.  It might be tempting.
