I stay at the hampton inn at wrightsville beach about a mile maybe to T1, I did the half last year and was gonna let my wife sleep in and walk I got on the main HWY and someone picked me up right away. Yea real easy to get around town the hardest thing is the battleship area no cars allowed so it's water taxi or shuttle which can be a little crowded on race day.

I did the full in '09 and was by myself and stayed at the Hampton Inn---was VERY pleased with that option.  It was very easy to get around---I did use the race provided shuttle race morning---parked downtown in garage across from the Hilton and took the shuttle--then water taxi back to my car after the race-EASY.  I would highly recommend the Hampton Inn.

OK, I'm in.  I had a DNF @ IMKY and I'm getting back on the horse.  Looks like we are 8 weeks out. Hope everyone's training is going well.

BTW, the newsletter they send out today said the shuttle from the river hotel to T1 was free, but when you clicked the link to register for the shuttle spot, they wanted $5.  Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah, they mention the bus twice in the email.  First as free, then again as $5.  The first appears to be a misprint.

Does anyone know if there is parking at T1?  Is that even a good option?

Thanks!

last year you could pull up and park at T1, at least we did to unload the bikes, gear, etc...  I had a sherpa last year, so they didn't stay parked during the whole event.  This year I'm alone, so planning the shuttle route.  Seems a rip off to pay $5 for athletes when its always been included in the race fees.

Hey everyone,

I did the full in 2009, and this year will be my 2nd IM.

OldTeen (as I saw that you asked on the official forum at the B2B site) and others- in 2009 we did a practice swim from the Blockade Runner to the finish on Friday morning.  I stayed at the Blockade Runner in 2009 and will be again this year.

This practice swim is basically the exact route for the HIM and the 2nd half of the course for the Full.  I'll post more details for the practice swim as we get closer but there are about 6 of us coming from Michigan that'll all be doing it, and anyone else that wants to join.

It's better to have a larger group for Friday morning practice swim as the course isn't set, and boat traffic is allowed.

see you soon,

peace,

ben

The Heed is in those cheap plastic bike bottles, and last year the water was in a large bottle that almost fit perfectly in the water bottle holder on your bike

Heck ya buckeyes are welcome to join.  On that day we are brothers (or sisters) in iron, not football grudge matches.
You're going to love B2B as your first IM.

I have to decide to fly with or ship my bike. IML doesn't seem to have any bike friendly carriers. Anyone shipping/flying?

Shuttle fee is $5, explanation from JD:

Sorry.  The newletter had last years info on it about the buses.  The fee is $5 this year.  We did this as we found athletes would make a reservation and then simply not use it because there was no penalty for doing so.  Thus folks who wanted seats were kept off the bus and then the buses weren't even full.     Jeremey A Davis, Set Up Events
