Thank you to everyone that posted their #'s for last week. Good stuff! I'll summarize it all when I get back to a computer later today. I had a horrible training week and am trying to make up for it with Skiing. 1.5 days @ Camelback. ( Fri/ Sat ) + 1.5 days @ Blue (Sun / Today). I think I'll try boarding today for the 1st time. Hope I dont get beat up too bad.

Here are some good reads I found last week.

Snowboarding is a blast but the first day is usually a little tough. Try it more than once though and you will be hooked!

Sorry to here about your friend.

Look to the right under my post.  There is a button that says:  Toggle e-mail notification

Click on it and turn it on.  It will notify you when someone posts and it will send a link as well.   I've added that link to my bookmarks bar.

Are you in TNT also?   You should join in with the North Brunswick Group.  I'm trying to get those guys more active.  We scheduled a ride at Johnson Park by New Brunswick this past Sunday.   I was the only one who showed up.   I managed to pull a whopping 14 miles an hour pace on my mountain bike across snowy bike paths.   God I can't wait for my street bike to come in.

Subject: Week ending Jan 16 Summary
I think I got everyone's summary in here, hope I didn't miss anyone.  46 hrs last week for the group. We need to get that higher!  Muskwa2  - I estimated 8 hrs for skiing. Grauch - I estimated 15 miles for the stationary bike.

Knowing I was going to send this out I just had to start off the week with a good workout so I swam 70 laps after coming home from my first day of snowboarding today.  Can you say serious pain!!  Its a good thing you don't need knees and elbows in the pool.  I was actually going to do 140 (3500 yds) but I totally forgot about the Aqua Fit class so I had to cut it short.  I forgot my towel at home as well so obviously my mind was back on the slopes!  Getting home in this weather soaking wet was not fun Embarassed.

Very cool!  I think this is going to be a huge inspiration and incentive, hoping my total mileage reflects my total minutes one day soon,  I had a great short swim today   Oh, although I wish they were mine too, the snowboarding time belongs to Rob....

Thanks for the summary, my times for biking and running are switched.  One note,  the local masters swim team meets 4 times a week for 90 minutes.  My current plan has me swimming 3 times week for max of 30 minutes.  I'm looking to start it on Saturday and meet with the coach, so I will get a better feeling on the plan going forward.  Do I cut back on the running and biking?  I will try to get a weekly schedule up for review.

Thanks Again...

Ah, now your username makes sense!

Yes, this is my first event (in 20 years).   I am going to follow the Devilman with the NJ State Triathlon. I'm looking for an olympic distance to follow that.  I tend to head to the Mercer pool (The College of NJ) on Wednesday nights.   It tends to be a coach, me and 1-3 women.  There are plenty of open lanes.     By all means come to the next practice.

When you say your bike is shot, how bad is it?  I've been using a 10+ year old Canondale F500 mountain bike for my rides.   Could it be worse than that?   Ray is proposing a ride this coming Saturday, would you be available?   This past week we went and did laps in Johnson park.  The road is well maintained with an adjacent bike lane.  It's pretty flat, but at least it's safe:

If anyone is interested in hitting Johnson park this coming Saturday say the word!
Even better yet, if you know of a better place to ride chime in!   My normal ride includes a decent climb on Coppermine Rd.   http://runkeeper.com/user/grauch/activity/22055024

Grant,

Just today I hooked up with a bunch of guys in Long Branch that have 14 compu trainers setup for training and group ride in one of their home studios.  They ask for a 10 week commitment to training with them either Tues or Thurs night or saturday or sunday.  I am headed to San Jose tuesday AM but if you are willing to change your ride to sunday I will surely be around and head out with you guys.  I have a few good road loops that I have learned from the princeton freewheelers (great group if you like group road rides).  Let me know if you are interested in sunday.

I'M INTERESTED !   Sorry for shouting, I've been having a hard time pulling people in.   Here's hoping I have my Defy by then.  Uh Oh, brand new pedals, that means I'll have to stay clipped in and fall over at least once.

San Jose, I'm jealous.   I spent last year working an M&A project in Houston.  God I miss the heat!

Just sent the e-mail to the TNT group setting the day for Sunday.

Hey gang.  I work mostly nights, so I am on here in the wee hours.

My week ending the 16th was pretty miserable as I look it over.  I am keeping up with the indoor trainer, but some hip and knee pain has limited my running and scheduling has limited my swimming.  I need this group to help motivate me to be more consistent.

Bike Time 2:54
Bike Dist 52.2 miles

Run Time 1:00
Run Distance 6.67 miles

This week I vow to swim twice at least 800 meters each and run twice at least 5 miles each along with my riding.

By the way, if anyone needs a good indoor trainer program check out http://jorgepbmcoaching.blogspot.com/

It is a 13 week program by a BTer Jorge, a USAT coach.  It has been just great and keeps me motivated.  There is a thread in the Challenge Me! section of BT.

Happy Training and thanks in advance for all of the motivation.

I need some advice on a plan.  I would like to officially start it on 4/11 for an 8/14 HIM for a total of 18 weeks.

I truly only have time for 2 (sometimes 3) swim workouts a week of up to 1 hour. 3 runs a week and 2 rides.

Running is my strength and I need to keep up with that for a May 25k and a fall Mary.

My only concern is getting eough long rides in.  My longest so far in training for Olys is 35 miles.  How long should I go in training and how many times before the 56 miles of the HIM?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Minor correction for the totals- my bike time was 2 hours 33 minutes.  The 33 minutes listed would have given me an awesome pace!  Cool

First...sorry for some of the typo's on the summary.  I'll slow down next time Smile

Second....For the NJ/PA folks:  Registration is open for the Blue Cross 10 Mile Philly Broad St. Run.  I did this last year and it was a lot of fun. My wife who can't run 10 miles did it as well, she walked most of it and still loved it and is signed up again this year.  I'll be there too.  Here is the link:

http://www.ibx.com/htdocs/custom/bcbsr2010/register.html  Its $36 or $56 if you want race day packet pickup.

Lastly....here are a couple more good reads I came across. I'll keep posting these unless you all tell me you get them too from Active.com on Facebook.

Hi All! Hope everybody is having a good week. I am still recovering from that crossfit session on Saturday. Did a Spinervals training session on Sunday and ran 4 miles yesterday - all that with tears in my eyes I swear, I can feel every one of the squats I had to do. My friend, who I dragged with me to the crossfit class is no longer speaking to me. It's unfortunate since she is my manager. She has been on Advil since Sunday. There's a lively crossfit discussion happening in the Triathlon Talk forum. I'll go check it out.
I signed up for the Broad Street Run, too. Goal for this year: 10 minute/miles pace.

Steven - I am thinking about doing the second routine from the threadmill workouts article from Active.  My quads are not happy about it and threaten to go on strike.

Go for it!  I wish I could try but my 15 year old treadmill doesn't have a readout for the incline %.   Very frustrating.  I better start using the better ones at the gym before I $pend and more dollar$ on this $port. Am I whining?  Ooop$.  Its all good!! Laughing

This sucks I hurt my knee last night playing Basketball.  I was going to start swimming on Saturday with the Masters team.  Now, it will have to wait till next Saturday.  I will need to take a couple days off.  Anyway, this shouldn't set me back to far, since I'm looking to do my first tri in July.  Since I was jusy starting my training plan, should I just start over with week 1?

Just a thought on the swimming- I'm not sure where you stand with your swimming abilities, but you might be able to do part of the workout pulling - gets you in the water and introduced to your Masters team.  If you don't have a pull buoy, chances are someone may have one to loan or the facility may have them.  Our Masters team usually has somebody with an injury that has to modify a practice.  Our motto is "hey, it's master, we can do whatever we want!".

Big Steve.  How's it going?

The more I study swimming the more I need to lean.  For new swimmers, take a look at these links.  I started using the proper stroke and found I went faster, but got tired quicker - go figure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm-vSqlWmgs&feature=related
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUULNJEdKU8&feature=fvw

Question for you Steve.  Please take a look at this link on open water swim stroke - which do you use and why?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB_-1sXrYeE&feature=related

Also, I started training with a pull buoy and found I swim faster with it than when I kick.  I assume it's becasue I have to much drag in my lower half and legs.  Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Thanks very much - TriToga.

Ouch!  Knee injuries suck!!!!  I was off three months last year, I had both knees with torn ligaments (Judo injury)

R.I.C.E.  is a must with knee injuries, especially in the first 72 hours!  When I was going through my recovery the surgeon did tell me to swim, so......but you should follow the instructions of your own dr.
