Robyn - you obviously intend to spur your group on by inviting a challenge to another group.   This isn't a bad way to motivate your group.  What measures are we talking about here when you extend a challenge?

What defines a "butt kicking"?

I am in no way speaking for the group that Dan mentors but I'm curious because your challenge was vague and didn't provide many details.

The hardest part of starting a training program is sticking to it.  My team wants to challenge your team in an actual-to-planned training time challenge.

Any other challenge ideas are welcome.  We will have to establish some guidelines, of course, since we don't want anybody to get hurt.

Its all in the spirit of fun and will help everyone get to their goals before the tri season kicks in to high gear.

Are you game?

How do you do this if you aren't a paid member of this site, and don't have a planned schedule online?

Well, you read it we have been challenged.  I just feel bad for TriOK's group because we are going to crush them.

So here is what we do.  Cash, I don't have a 'paid' membership either so I can't do the planned function on the site either.  So what we do is put the number of hours we plan on training for the week here on Monday's.  The next monday, we post our actual and next week's planned total.

Like, for me, this week, I have 13.58 hrs planned (814.80 min).  We can start this Monday.  We can keep track of the delta for the group.

Cashmason - 2007-02-08 2:35 AM Now that the marathon is behind me, what kind of training should I be doing. I don't expect a detailed schedule, just some general guidelines. I do have a reverse sprint this weekend that I hope to get too. ( Its 70 miles away). I have hopes of another reverse sprint next month and 5.2 mile run as part a relay marathon in April.

 Cash,
What I would reccomend is to get a training plan for your 'A' race.  That will give you a guideline with a future date in mind.  If you just train for the next race, it makes it harder.

Your run base is good, so concentrate on building your bike and swim volumes and just keep your run in check.

lOL, I just did my "A" race the marathon.

I only got interested in tri's in December. Don't even know what is around or what size race I should target.

The sprints I learn about at the last minute and say hey that sounds fun and sign up.

My swimming is definitely the limiter. At this point I dont even have a plan, though I could adopt a free one from this site, maybe oly level.

Not sure how many weeks out the min or max weeks.

Dan - I noticed the other day you completed a lot of pulling using the pull buoy and hand paddles.  Do you ever do pull sets with the hand paddles only?

I've been doing all of my pulling sets with the buoy and paddles but wonder if I would also benefit from some pulling where I just use the paddles.  Or would this defeat the purpose of using the paddles since you could also kick?

The purpose of the hand paddles are to add resistance to your pull stroke. This helps to buid up your deltoids and make your pull stronger. I don't think it would benefit you any to use the hand paddles without a pull buoy. If you want to increase your stroke count, put on some fins. this will get you faster in the water and force you to increase your stroke count. So, in short, Pull buoy with paddles optional and fins to increase your stroke count.

Need advice about racing in the rain.

Running in rain should not be too bad maybe a bit slippery. Not sure about keeping warm when it rains or I am wet.

Swimming not a problem
