Agree absolutely, regarding run frequency! I am not considering the elliptical time in my run goal. That will just be extra base work. Just hope we have better weather in February than January!

My wife didn't want to run 15k and talked me into training with her. I am going to do the Pensacola Half on the 18th. |

Expert 1117 Shalimar, FL | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full Manatee Express - 2007-02-02 8:53 PM Good Luck to Cheri tomorrow!!!!! Thanks! I'm very happy with my results. I used this race as a trial to see if my goal of finishing a half in under two hours is do-able. I kept a steady pace, and didn't fall apart (or even feel like falling apart) like I did on the Pensacola Beach half in January. I can actually run a 20 second slower pace per mile and finish a half in under 2 hours. Yea!!! Of course, this race was almost 4 miles shorter, so there's always that to contend with... No results posted yet on the internet, so I don't know how I did in my old age group. But whatever it turns out to be, that's ok. I'm still happy! |

Master 2314 Gulf Shores, AL | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full Great job Cheri, 8:48 pace for 9 miles is awesome. I don't know how you even got out of the car given the temperature. I bet it was extra cold over the water. Write us a race report, like to hear more about your pacing. |

I don't know how you even got out of the car given the temperature. I bet it was extra cold over the water. Write us a race report, like to hear more about your pacing. Getting started in the cold was tough, but I actually like colder temperatures for running (and yes, I actually do live in Florida where we aren't supposed to get cold temps ). Over the water wasn't that bad because there was a north wind, so it was at our backs. As far as pacing goes, I don't know why it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. All I can attribute it to is the miles I put in to prepare. As I'm sure you all can tell, I'm not great at this training thing. I just go out and do, without really knowing what I'm doing. But when everything is "clicking" I get into a zone and feel like I go forever. And I have several routes I train on, and I usually finish within a few seconds every time. Maybe it's just a repitition thing, I'm not sure. I've never competed in a swimming or biking event. No doubt, that will be my downfall! And then I'll be so flustered, my run will fall apart too!!! Well, hopefully not... |

Extreme Veteran 405 Shakopee, MN | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full sick and getting angry... Okay, so I didn't miss a workout all month on my new 20week program...until yesterday and maybe today! I am going to force myself to go to the gym and run indoors (-13 today outside). I really don't want to pass on my cold/sore throat, but I feel better when I workout. Should I try to make up my bike from yesterday (it was a bike/swim day) and get at least that and the run in today. I can skip the swim, but I would like to get something done. My throat is dry and raspy, so I am wondering if I should just take today off too...but that will just start a pattern that I don't want to get into. just ranting |

Okay, so I didn't miss a workout all month on my new 20week program...until yesterday and maybe today! I am speaking from recent experience -- if you are sick, give yourself time to heal and to fully recover from illness. I tried to push it after a bout with the flu recently and relapsed into a secondary infection. Just made myself totally miserable. Hope you are better soon.

Master 2314 Gulf Shores, AL | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full I have had solid back to back weeks, good on frequency in all 3 sports and enough hours to wake up my base. I finally rode my bike outside again, it so much better than that trainer. |

Sticking to your workouts?? I am jealous if you are...I got into a wonderful routine...then got sick.... Glad you are on the mend. Being sick is no fun at all! Workouts were going ok (minus the swim, that is). But I got some bad news yesterday, and I'm going to have to put off my plan to do My First Tri in June. I broke my right clavicle 10 months ago, and it just won't heal. We've tried all kinds of treatments, but now I'm down to the last resort -- surgery. The doctor says 3-6 months recovery after the surgery. So I haven't given up on a triathlon this year, but it will have to be much later in the year, after healing then picking up the training again. I did decide to put off the surgery until after the half marathon in March. One last chance to make my goal of under 2 hours??? |

Veteran 296 | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full One of the local bike shops --- let me give a shout out to Cadence 120 ---- has an open house each January on a Sunday, a day the shop is usually closed. They lead road and mt rides, have a cookout, and feature specials throughout the store. This year a local cycling fit and stroke specialist -- another shout out to David Field -- featured a simulation set up to analyze your pedal efficiency, stroke, cadence, wattage and other measurements. His set up put you on your bike with his trainer, a computer monitor in front and a wide screen behind you so everyone could watch. (OK....that made me a little nervous....) David very patiently went through all the mechanics and explained each measurement. I am happy to report that he changed nothing about my pedaling style. Afterward for fun, I was a test case to show the simulator. This amazing set up allowed you to ride against another competitior. The program allows you to pick from rides throughout the world and manipulate road conditions, weather, hill grade, etc. Amazing stuff. Just wish I could afford the price tag of $$$$. Thanks to Cadence 120 and David for a great experience. I recommend all take an opportunity like this if you get the chance. |

Member 46 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Manatee Express Group - Full Well, I had my first week of training in the 12-week program. I'm looking forward to knocking off weight like I did last time, but that hasn't happened yet. Boy, do I feel great to be back in it. Today is actually a rest day, but I miss the workouts. I'll probably just do some abs. My swimming is really tragic. It was never good but I haven't done it for awhile so I'm struggling to even do the workouts that are prescribed in the plan. I don't know how many of you are golfers or golf but my swim makes me think of my golf game. First of all, I'm a horrible golfer but I've had lessons a few times. When I'm golfing I'm constantly thinking - head down, follow thru, point your belt buckle towards the target, grip softly, follow thru, smooth stroke, etc. etc. Now I'll give you my swim thinking - head down, pull thru, turn on hand on entry, glide thru water etc. etc. etc and don't forget 4 beats or 6 beats on the kick. {Scream} I wish I could crack the nut on the swim. I love to swim. I love the water (as an avid scuba diver) but I just can't do much and my arms come out really sore, but they look big! |

Like you, I love the water, but I swim at the pace of a manatee! I try to work alot on form but improvement is slow. The biggest improvement comes when I swim at least 3 days a week. |
