I'm no expert but just reducing your volume will (in my limited experience ) do two things; 1 ) obviously allow you to rest up and be better prepared to handle the increased intensity required to compete, but also 2 ) it makes you miss the training and want to get back in and "mix it up". What I'm doing this time is tapering but for only 3 days prior to the event. Since it is only a Sprint my training is actually harder then the event is and I feel that any taper longer then 3 days would be counterproductive. Based on what I'm reading about your training schedule it's the same way. It appears that you are more then ready (prior volume and intensity ) and will just kick when the stopwatch starts on Saturday. Be sure to give us your impressions and results as soon after the race as possible and I'll do the same.
