barqhead - 2008-11-09 2:05 PM Ooo. A bike discussion. I'm looking at Kuota, Orbea, Cannondale and Scott for a road bike. I don't like being down to only 1 bike!

I really only have one bike... the mountain bike is pretty but realistically its got slicks on it so 99% of the time Im going to ride my roadie instead...

Im going to lend the mountain bike out to one of the girls in the tri group which I feel really good about since then it will actually get ridden!

I sold both my mtn bike and my roadie earlier this year. I've been riding the heck out of my TT bike and now it needs to go into the shop for a nice, winter overhaul, but I can't deal with being bikeless!

Oh I TOTALLY understand!!! Yeah if you have a TT Im sure you could do with a roadie to compliment it!

It would stop some of the nasty looks I get on group rides Nah. Nobody has been rude. I kind of like it because the roadies give me a wide berth and don't yell at me when I do something odd like freak out in the double paceline. The TT bike is kind of like a sign. "Beware. Triathlete. Does not know what she is doing in a pack"

I got buzzed by a pack riding today... although they were great and gave me heaps of warning - one of them even yelled good morning as they went past..

All I was thinking... gimme a few months to get my fitness back then Im joining your cycle group

Oh do it! It is a blast! It's a really nice change to solo training even though it can be nerve-racking at times.

Umm yeah... once Im back up to a decent distance and pace I might head south again and ride with Bike Boy... if I can handle that then I will know its time to try a group ride...

Right now I need 2-3 months just to get back on the consistency thing to see some real improvements I think... I cannot wait to be good enough to ride with a group and try the TTs and Crits etc...

I did the math... if I ride Sat and Sun most weeks of the year I can totally justify the cost of a new bike then my current bike will become a trainer bike which means I will be riding even more which means I can justify it even more.... thoeretically..

Of course saving the money is another matter!

Oh yeah... and giving me a gal to aim for is really all I need!!! You should always train with people better than you right? Im going to be at that point soon where I need that...

That's what happened to me last week. I ended up in the double paceline and pulled the group to a hill. As I pulled over to go to the back, they put the hammer down and that was all she wrote! But it was fun being up there with all those big racer boys while it lasted

Yup!  I always come out more determined after riding with people better than me.  Having something concrete to shoot for is very, very nice to have.

Well for now Im riding on the weekends in a well cycled area so my goal would be to not get overtaken by EVERY ONE on the road! Lol....

I miss being good on a bike! But getting out there makes me so happy its hard to care!

Definitely! But I always have a more positive outlook getting dropped on the flats than getting pummeled in the mountains. I don't know why getting dropped on the climbs is more demoralizing...

Heh... because you're getting dropped and it physically hurts at the same time.  On the flats... eh.. they're just faster than you.  On the climbs... CARP!  I still have to get up this thing!

Ahh... that's the way I felt yesterday.  I hardly have any day light to get out anymore, but when the boss man said, "We've had a rough two weeks, we're leaving early," I went straight home and grabbed Mooch.  Just being on the road again was awesome.  Along with 4 deer, one bald eagle, and the leaves changing and falling... it was very therapeutic.

Of course, I don't have much of anything that you could call a climb  We just have to find the headwinds!

I hear ya - all week this week Im sure Im getting to be anoyingly chirpy and happy and positive....

Its being back riding outdoors I tell ya.. and the other exercise and stuff.. I think my positivity is going to start to annoy people soon

Its the same with swimming for me... I HATE indoor pools but get me in the outdoor one, outside, in the sunshine preferably or even in the dark under lights and Im a happy little swimming elephant....
