I still cannot believe someone takes your kick board and buoys...  I have not had that happen but I think I might just grab it from their hands... Grabbing the buoy may be another issue..lol

Ya, you might want to be a bit careful getting your buoy back!

Run was a bit windy here as well coach but nice to be outside.

KC- I've had numbness to.  I have to make sure I sit as far back as possible to avoid it.  There was an article in Triathlete about it a few months ago.

KC - I love the pull buoy!  Have you tried fins yet?  That might help you to.

Caleb- That bike just looks fast!!  That is a sweet ride!

Todays swim was the same workout as yesterday, but it felt twice as hard.  I ended up swallowing alot of water for some reason.  I was more hydrated after my workout than before I started.  Yesterdays double workout took alot more out of me than I thought.  Oh well...   Still felt good to be swimming!

Good Morning Keith. Yes I have a pair of fins and do use them occasionally. I was just trying not to rely on the swim aids too much so I don't fall into a false sense of sucrity then have to swim without them and can't.

Have a great day.

The fins are aids.  My Masters coach says they do two things.  One is to teach the "feel" of the proper kick.  Your legs and feet should feel like you have them on when you don't.  Also, on drills that include stroke, they help increase the right feel of the water so again, you can sense when you are doing the right things when you don't have them on.  I bought Speedos at the start of the winter and use them a bit each week.  Really helped.

Speedos?  As in fins or swim suit?  Smile

Anyone heard from Tim latelly?  His logs been empty for a week.

Speedo fins AND Speedo Endurance jammers.  They last forever and only cost a little more than the others.

Change in plans for today. My right arm is bugging me a bit since last night's swim (outside of my bicept close to elbow). I think it is  either swim or weight lifting related so I have decided a rest of it today is probably a good idea. Therefore I am going to do a run/bike brick today instead. My run to bike transition area is all ready to go in the basement (sport drink on bike, shoes ready to go and the golf channel is on Smile). I am going to do a 5.5 km run and maybe an hour on the bike. I have my route planned out, my ipod shuffle charged and ready - now off I go.

KC

Hey - I am back - this is an edit and addition.

Run/Bike brick. 5.5 km run, 1 hour ride. 2:30 transitioning from my driveway, into my garage, through the house, down the stairs to my bike transition area - all the while tearing off the winter running gear down to my trishorts that I had on under all the gear- good times LOL - I left a trail all the way down the stairs Smile.

Now, for a serious, embarrissing and personal question for the guys in the group. (Deb, you may want to close your eyes here Embarassed. During the ride I occasionally experience a little numbness (the best way I can explain it) in the private areas if you know what I mean Embarassed. Any of you guys experience this. I normally just move around and do the old repositioning tug (LOL) for relief. I have done some reading on it but just looking for some advice. Do you think I should consider a change in saddle or is it just one of those things that happens doing this sport?

Thanks

Hope everyone is having a great day.

KC

It is the saddle, it is not good.  It is unnecessary. Don't overlook it or just get by.  It can have ahem, consequences.

The cause is compressed capillaries.  One cause is blood can't get to the spot, numbness follows.   Saddles are a personal thing.  I've pushed the Adamo since 2006 when I had prostate cancer.  They take the pressure off that area.   And women, don't close your eyes, you have similar nerves.  The Adamo is a little pricey but worth it.  They designed it so there is gel only on the sit bones.  Too much gel and it is counterproductive.  The rest is designed to alleviate the stress.  When I started on them, they were just hitting the market.  Now some of the biggest names in triathlon use them.  Armstrong used them on his time trial bike even though his team was sponsored by someone else. Give it a look. They make several models.  I like the racing...it has a lip on the back to hang over bike racks in transition.  ZA little lighter due to titanium rails but no one will notice that.  I frankly like the lip.

Good Sunday afternoon Team.

Just a swim for me today. Not bad, not great - overall ok!

I have a question for everyone though. It seems like I get stronger or have more stamina the longer I am in the pool. I am not sure if I just get more comfortable, relaxed, loose or all of the above. The arm issue I had from Friday is still there but not as bad. I will ice it again tonight.

That is it for me today team. I hope everyone is having a great day.

I timed myself once on my first 100 and then on one I did half way through my drills and I did get faster by about 15 seconds.

Hey Team,

I think I am almost healthy! YAY.

Did the last in the 3 week series today. 5 mile race = 49:23. Slower than I wanted to be, but given that I am still not 100% i'll take it.

KC - I find once i've been doing any of the sports for a while I warm up and get faster. I think it's most noticable in running for me though. For the first 1/2 mile I'm DYING, then I settle in.

OMG I have seat issues too, so i'm not blushing (feel like the token 'girl' in the group now though). I am hoping once I get a pro bike fit, it will become more comfortable. I have a Fizik at the moment. If it doesn't get better, I will try the Adamo, cause computrainer class is PAINFUL, I can't imagine being that uncomfortable for the 3.5 hours I anticipate being on the bike for my HIM.

Good Morning Deb.

I am glad you are still here so don't even think about leaving! I think I am going to take Iceman's advice and start to look at the Adamo saddles. I don't want anydiscomfort when the weather breaks and I start taking longer rides.

Have a great day.

Ran 7.66 (had to throw that extra .16 in) yesterday and spent most of the time "in zone".  I wouldn't call it race pace as I didn't really push that much beyond doing somewhat of a negative split.  Feeling really good about it today.

And I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but I'm liking the compression sleeves I bought for my calves.  I don't have any of the soreness that I normally would expect.

i worry about my saddle bc i dont want to have any..."problems".  is it numbness?  is it obvious or might it be subtle?  i want to know what to look for.

i wear mine for the run and then for about 2 hours afterwards.  it gets to a point for me where i have to take them off becassue they start to bother me but i feel like i recover much better.  i know one guy that has compression long pants and he sleeps in them after his long runs.

Hey team.

Jason:

I was talking about numbness during the bike - a loss of sensation really, almost like your leg falling asleep (sorry for this Deb) but I don't want any of my appendages falling asleep to the point that I might have a tough time waking them up again LOL Embarassed.

Rob:

Thanks for bringing up compression sleeves - I was going to ask anyone here if they used them and what they thought.

Just a run planned for me today with curling tonight - so that means no swimming Cry

Have a great day everyone.

Rob- you might want to keep an allen key set in your saddle bag until you get all those little adjustments figured out.  Its worth the couple minutes to stop and do some tweaking and have a comfortable ride.

I have had someone try to take my kickboard.  I usually keep that and my pull/paddles in my swim bag until I need them.  Seems to fix the issue.

Also had some numbness issue last year but made some adjustments and and got rid of my old seat that came with the bike.  I looked on ebay and bought a used Felt tri-bike seat for $10 and haven't had any issues since.  Its all personal preference though.

Got my 20 long run in and it was brutal again.  I am thinking being sick last week didn't help either.  I tried to not drink as much fluid and increased my Gu's (6) and it was a bad experience.  I hit the wall at about 15/16 miles and really struggled the last few miles.  I did weigh myself for sweat rate loss and I lost almost 6 lbs. on the run which really is not good.  i was 171 at start and 165.2 at end.   I am just going to have to deal with the multiple bathroom issues and drink the correct fluids on my race.  My calculated fluid rate says 10 oz. every 15 minutes.  It seems crazy that for the marathon I would drink 160 oz. of fluid but it definitley needs to increase.

I was pretty bummed out but my wife put things back in perspective when I said "I only ran 20 miles instead of 21" and she said I was crazy and the fact that I ran 20 miles was good enough -haha  I am getting nervous for the race though.

My issue is my calves tightenign and cramping.  I think I might try the compression socks.  We'll see.

Hey Team.

I hope you are all having a good day today.

I just got back from my run - short compared to you 20 mile guys Wink - 6.2 km in 37.02 for me today. I started out a bit slow but about halfway in with some perfect tunes playing I really felt good about it and could have kept on going. I almost felt like I was in the zone. I lifted before I went running so maybe that is why I felt a bit sluggish at first.

Curling toniight and back in the pool tomorrow night - can't wait!

Have a great night everyone. I will check in around midnight after I get back from curling.

KC, I think you should also look at your setup on the bike if you are getting numb.  If you are in areo normal bike seats can put more pressure on certain areas.  I too love the adamo saddles.

Not sure why anyone would want compression sleaves but I see the socks all the time (pants).  I think triathletes just like to make ourselfs look even more dorky..lol   Lets face it none of the clothing in the sport is very flattering to wear outside the house.
