Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by trigal38 Just reading through everything this morning and Dirk it occurred to me how we are close in age but you have children moving out while my youngest just started Kindergarten! I'll be old and gray by the time they get to those milestones. My clothes have the stink factor for sure but most of them are black so I don't want to bleach them! I washed a load 2 times the other day then hung everything in the laundry room to dry. Opened the door to the laundry room and the whole room smelled.
Remember my heel that was so sore I froze it? The doc prescribed some Prednisone for me last week and I just took the last one this morning. It feels really good now and has for several days, no pain at all. I want to run but at the same time I don't want to come back to early. What do you think? My back is doing so great I'm actually starting to look for more races before the season wraps here and I'm afraid of losing all my run fitness but I probably already have. The Doc was not my regular and she just said "you might not want to run for a couple weeks". First the foot...That's a tough call. You need to figure that out yourself. How about a 1 mile test run tonight or tomorrow? Then see how that feels? The prednisone will work wonders and you will feel great, but if there is an unresolved issue it will still come back after the prednisone wears off. The question is whether it's something that got started and then once started you couldn't get rid of it because the inflammation was self-sustaining. As for the bleach process, I had 2 pair of black cycling shorts and their color didn't change. I would assume that cotton would be a problem since cotton is white and black cotton is dyed. But lycra is probably produced in black and is colorfast. But you know your fabrics and if you have something that can't take the bleach why don't you try a different idea that I have.....microwave! Yep, blast each article of clothing in the microwave for a time...how long? The longer the better as long as you stop short of melting something. You won't melt cotton, but nylon and lycra could/would possibly melt, so just experiment with gradually increasing time. Take it out and feel it's temperature after each time so you can stop when it's hot. Another idea that will work, but may be damaging??? is to boil the item. If you have a large enough pot, put the shirt or shorts in the pot of water and bring it to a boil. As for my recipe, it's a great success! Yesterday morning I had a sweaty humid ride. My shoes had been through a sweat soaking ride on Tuesday then again Wednesday. I laid them out to air dry overnight yesterday and even though the shoes didn't completely dry, the insoles were odorless. My cycling shorts yesterday were thrown in the laundry sweaty and due to bad planning I needed to fish them out this morning!!! They were still wet, but had NO odor! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by RunningYogini Looking for some race wheel advice. I can only afford to buy one wheel. Should I buy a front or rear? Which do you like better? Anything else I should consider? HED Jet 6 (1200 g) or Zipp 404 (1100 g) for the front wheel HED Jet 6 (1300 g) or Zipp 404 (1100 g) for the rear Are you looking at new wheels or used? I ask because both HED and Zipp upgraded their rim profiles a couple of years back and the new ones are significantly better than the previous ones. If new then you are sure to get the better shape. And the Zipp are lighter and more expensive than the HED. If you really can only afford to buy one, then the front is the best buy. But you could definitely afford a set of FLO for less than the price of a Zipp front wheel. But FLO is perpetually back ordered, so if you want your wheels now and not in 1-2 months then you would need to buy something else. (I'm not positive that's the case right now so check first). If you want to try for a wheel cover for the rear, then for about $100 plus a used rear wheel in the $150 range you can make a disc. ($250) I know it's not a real disc, and I know that it's not quite as great as a Zipp disc aerodynamically...and maybe is 100 grams heavier...but it is so close to being just as fast that you would be happy.....(probably something like 3 seconds over 40k) |

You are so prepared any challenge will only make the day more meaningful. |

![]() | ![]() I'm racing this weekend in the Rev3 Old Orchard Beach Maine 70.3 aquabike. By eliminating the run, I'm expecting to be in the hunt. They say live tracking is available online, but I have no idea how accurate or up to the minute it will be. From their site: Go to www.rev3tri.com and click the Live link so get updates from your athlete. I'll try to post my bib number when we get it Saturday. It really gave me a lift last weekend to know someone here may have been following me. I'm a little concerned as my nose is still rather painful with goggles on, but I suppose I should be more concerned that this weekend's swim will close to double my swim yardage for the summer. The swim time on this course includes a long run up the beach (took me just under 1 1/2 minutes last year), and from there to transition is still a long way, about 1/3 mile, so the T times will be slow as well. Well, mine are always slow, but T1 will be even longer than normal. Just prepping so you know what the times mean if you're watching. |

Have a safe trip and and enjoy the time with your family. I hope you and Jeff have a great ride together as well. I also understand how you feel about the kids. This is my son's last year of high school and my girls have already graduated. They are all pretty much grown up the only problem is none of them look like they are leaving anytime soon lol. Joanne glad to hear you had a great run and good to see you back at it with your training. I've seen that show that you mentioned and I think that is a little too hardcore for me lol. I would last 10 minutes on that show get out alive. Derek good luck and be safe at the 10K this weekend. Sounds like you have a great chance to get your PR. I'd go for it. Dina I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I'd probably take it easy with the running, maybe you might consider riding the bike a little more. Also glad to hear that you are considering signing up for more races. Ha ha, yeah. I'm at 119 miles for the week and it is only Wednesday! That is probably more than I road all of last month Breakthrough ride for me this morning with 40 miles by myself at an average pace of 19.8 mph. The area I was in is completely flat and there was only a 5 mph wind so really ideal conditions. I've never tried to grind it out continuously for that long, it was a mental challenge as much physical. Now that I am done my legs feel fine and I think I probably could have pushed a lot harder at the beginning. Thats a great cycling week! How does 19.8 MPH for an average make you feel? It should make you feel like an ANIMAL!! If you don't feel that way there's something wrong with you. I imagine you are beginning to feel some saddle soreness but it's worth it in the end. You're doing great for the lower volume you had been carrying up to this point. You'll be dialed in quite nicely when your aqua bike comes around. I'm a Junkie so of course that ride left me feeling like I could have worked harder ha ha ha! Saddle is fine but my neck & shoulder blades were really starting to feel it at the end of Wednesdays ride. I'm going to ride easy today on the hybrid which is now all tricked out with working brakes and clipless pedals And Tracey, I felt really spoiled riding that long on a weekday! Not something I'm used to at all. I'm kind of in a weird place right now for me with an empty house all day. I've gone from full time working/dedicated teacher to full time stay at home mom to ????????? I'm not sure what I'm doing but I'll figure it out. I'm torn between wanting to help bring in some more income for the family vs knowing that someone still needs to be here to run the kids around/help with homework and all that. |

That kind of amazes me to be honest. I would expect that Ironman would have everything at the top level for their races and they would be able to keep nearly everything in an almost non-delayed status. I will be watching your race as Long as Lis and I aren't at the gym and if we're not at church on Sunday morning. (We normally go on Saturday night.) |

It's still a little dim at 6am, but that's probably when we need to start. Let me know if/when you know where you will be spending the night! What do you think? Can we do an early Friday morning ride? I do have lights and I can bring some reflective gear as well. Normally I don't ride in low light just to be safe but I will do whatever you like to get a ride in with you and some hills. I will be staying in Columbia on Friday night (8-29) but we won't be in until midnight or so (not that it matters). We will most likely stay at the Comfort Inn on Bear Creek Pike and I-65. If not there than the Holiday Inn Espress across the road. |

I'd have to agree it seems like you get much faster updates via Rev3's tracking system then you do with WTC's Ironman website. You'd think for the money you pay for IM races you'd have a tracking system which would provide faster updates. I'm using a Myathletelive tracking device for Wisconsin. It's real time so at least I'll be trackable on the bike and run in real time and my wife won't have to wait around wondering where I am on the course. It'll also come in handy if I wind up laid out on the course somewhere in the countryside at least I'll have a good chance of being found on Sunday. |
