DOH!!! I have done something similar---back in swim-only days as a teen. The wood stove probably sounds nice and cozy about now, huh? I am going to go crawl inside the woodstove now and try to thaw out. There is frost in my hair. |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! disturbed275 - 2010-01-30 9:22 AM I know it's busy. I think I've lost my mind, LOL. Thanks for the input. Sorry about the formatting--sometimes things post the way they look when I type, them, but usually not. Other than that flaw I love my mac. The June century is pretty laid back--but one of the ladies I'm riding with has set herself a time goal that's fairly ambitious, and since she's my ride back home and the event is 90 miles from home, well... The May bike event is in town, and will be laid back as well. And hubby can sherpa me home if need be...or I can coast back downhill toward home... Nothing past mid-June is set in stone at this point, so I have some flexibility built in until I see how the training's going. That is a crazy schedule indeed. With the early HM and longer bike events my thoughts would be to pick up the bike and run portions of an HIM plan and do enough swimming to get you through the sprints. How is that June century ride? If it is pretty casual with frequent stops then you could conceivably get through it without doing any long rides past 60 miles. If you want to fare a little better then add in some longer rides up to 80 miles. The nice thing about biking is that your body can handle a big jump in distance without much risk of injury. In training for my second HIM last summer I had a long ride of 80 miles in July. I didn't bike much in August, but did a solo century the beginning of September for the heck of it and handled it fine. After your century you should look at getting your swim volume up to handle the oly distance while maintaining the bike and run fitness you gained leading up to that. |

Usually some is better than none, but when you are getting sick, too much is waaaaay worse than none at all. Get better soon!mndymond - 2010-01-30 1:42 PM The villiage is quiet....Melissa and Mindy are still duking it out over the run...I'm watching the Mummy Returns... Plus with the running base you will have built for your HIM you should be able to jump right into those last 9 weeks or so of Marathon training. Have fun! BTW - glad to hear your run went well. That's a pretty good HTFU run with the congestion you've got! Now take those meds and get some rest. |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Man the village has been really quiet all day.... SO I've been thinking.... Ironman...2011...Possibly Canada....But I know what Penticton is like in summer....and I know what those mountains are like......hmmm..... But here's my reasoning...so I hit clerkship in 3/4th yr...which means I'm on the units and clinics all the time...I'm not sure what my time will be like for being able to train/fit in an ironman...the 3/4th yrs look really dragged out all the time...it makes me nervous. And then there's residency...depending on what I do, I see it really hard to fit in an Ironman and not totally die in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019...Ahhh! Thats scary seeing it typed out like that...Basically 2011 seems like my best opportunity in the near future... Today has obviously been one of extreme contemplation...for whatever reason... Now I'm going to lie in bed and read a book...I got 2 today...one is a mystery called "the blood doctor" and one is a fantasy called "green rider". |

The last 2 years I've done a mid-August HIM and and early October mary. There's plenty of time to recovery and train in between. From personal experience it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep that mary in mind and have your long run built up to 15-17 miles before the HIM. That way you can work up to a couple of good 20s before October |

Its my bros 19th birthday today...We are going out for dinner tonight! Hope you're feeling better soon and enjoy that dinner! I just finished a lunch with the whole family. It was my birthday last week and my Mom's is Wednesday so it was sort of a joint celebration. I am now sufficiently fattened up for tomorrow's weigh in |

Pro 4482 NJ | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Happy Sunday everyone. I've had a busy weekend. Yesterday was my resistance stretching workshop. It was terrific. The first time I attended one of these last fall, I was able to touch my fingers to my toes for the first time in my adult life. Since then, I've worked the stretching into my regular routine. After yesterday's session, I was PALMS to the FLOOR. Holy Moly. At 5'10" that doesn't happen often. So NJ Kim was a noodle by day's end. This morning I undid all progress by hiking with one of my super fit, crazy trail runner friends. Two hours on the mountain, followed by indoor soccer (marginal effort on my part) and I am toast. I'm icing the knees and chewing advil. Edited by kcarroll 2010-01-31 1:56 PM |
