Rob- you might want to keep an allen key set in your saddle bag until you get all those little adjustments figured out.  Its worth the couple minutes to stop and do some tweaking and have a comfortable ride.

I have had someone try to take my kickboard.  I usually keep that and my pull/paddles in my swim bag until I need them.  Seems to fix the issue.

Also had some numbness issue last year but made some adjustments and and got rid of my old seat that came with the bike.  I looked on ebay and bought a used Felt tri-bike seat for $10 and haven't had any issues since.  Its all personal preference though.

Got my 20 long run in and it was brutal again.  I am thinking being sick last week didn't help either.  I tried to not drink as much fluid and increased my Gu's (6) and it was a bad experience.  I hit the wall at about 15/16 miles and really struggled the last few miles.  I did weigh myself for sweat rate loss and I lost almost 6 lbs. on the run which really is not good.  i was 171 at start and 165.2 at end.   I am just going to have to deal with the multiple bathroom issues and drink the correct fluids on my race.  My calculated fluid rate says 10 oz. every 15 minutes.  It seems crazy that for the marathon I would drink 160 oz. of fluid but it definitley needs to increase.

I was pretty bummed out but my wife put things back in perspective when I said "I only ran 20 miles instead of 21" and she said I was crazy and the fact that I ran 20 miles was good enough -haha  I am getting nervous for the race though.

My issue is my calves tightenign and cramping.  I think I might try the compression socks.  We'll see.

Tim: Did you not drink anything or just drink less (if so how much).  If you drank and ate 6 gus that is still alot of weight to loose.  Have you ever tried salt tablets?  Did you use the gu's during the run?  just my opinion  but seems like alot of gu's for a 20 mile run only.   Just keep playing with it and see what works for you.  Did you drink water only or anything with sodium (gatorade)?  Did you have bathroom issues on this run?

I tried not to drink as much before.  I also didn't use the Gatorade Prime.

During the run I drank when I was thirsty instead of every mile.  I only drank Gatorade Endurance which has plenty of sodium.  I have thought about salt pellets and have actually just used McDonlads salt packages in the past.  For the Gu's I tried taking one every 30-40 minutes to try and not drink as much.  I have a pretty strong stomache and they don't usually bother me.

Last run I drank 32oz. prior and about 52oz. gatorade/26oz. water.  This time I drank 16oz. prior and 48oz. gatorade/12oz. water.

I had to stop 3 times for the bathroom compared to about 5 times on my 19 miler.  It's crazy but I either have a really small bladder or highly efficient bladder - either way I have one more long run that I can try to get this worked out.  I am going to try and drink about 15-20oz. every 30 minutes and see what happens.

Either way I am getting very nervous about this race.

Hi everyone....I know I have been MIA but work has been a bear this last week.  I tried a run today and had to stop because I got a call from my wife.  Our car died.  So a few bike trips to the parts store and I think it is now better.  I will catch up later tomorrow.  Have a great night.

KC, I think you should also look at your setup on the bike if you are getting numb.  If you are in areo normal bike seats can put more pressure on certain areas.  I too love the adamo saddles.

Not sure why anyone would want compression sleaves but I see the socks all the time (pants).  I think triathletes just like to make ourselfs look even more dorky..lol   Lets face it none of the clothing in the sport is very flattering to wear outside the house.

They ain't dorky when you wear jeans!

Doubled up on spin class tonight on the advice of the instructor.  Just. Plain.Wow.  That was a helluva workout.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Tim you have some weird things going on.  You may want to get a test done as I am not sure you need all the liquid your drinking.  That seems like a ton of liquid for a 20mile run.  Racers may take a sip of water at each stop so around 20ish oz for the whole time.  The other thing that is hard to figure out is how much you are sweating out vrs peeing out.   I can only speak for me and the people I train/race with and if we go to the restroom more than once or twice during a whole IM over 11+ hours it would be odd.    So 3-5 times in 3 hours seems very high.    On the other hand I wouldn't worry too much about it just keep working on it and you will figure out what works for you.

BTW great long runs, you are a machine.....      Scotts our biking machine and your the running one.

Not when they aer only used for recovery silly rabbitWink.

I did go to spin class with jeans over my biking shorts one day.  The instructor outside the spin studio looked at me and said "Jeans?" and I replied, "yeah, going hardcore today..."

If I continue with double spins on Monday, I've got to rework my schedule.  Not sure if I want to put my rest day before it or after it.  At this point, Sunday is LSD on the run with Saturday as the rest day.  Thinking of making Saturday LSD and rest on Sunday.

I do a bottle an hour, not every 30 mins.  I sweat heavy so I use Salt Tabs of Endurolites.  I like to use something like HEED or Perpetulem to get 250-300 cals an hour too.  I am still totally unsure about solid food on the IM.  I used only liquids on the half IM and came through really strong and no bathroom breaks in 6 hours 8 mins.

The workouts are going good.  Lots of speed work on all three phases.  LTs on the bike - hard periods at nearly 100% ranging from 5 mins to 10 mins and up. with a rest break and then more.  Did 8 5 mins at 95% on Saturday with 4 VO@ max of a min each at 125% to finish.  The run, speed work is needed there.

I did a 5K last night at 9:20 pace with the first mile really slow.  My damn resting heart rate is 48 so that first exertion is awful until the heart starts working.  After that, I was hauling butt for me.

Masters coach tweaked my kick and my times are down again.  I was kicking with my legs too far out.  They are in so my thighs and feet rub now.  More aero and I turn my whoile body rather than twist at the waist.  All good.

Hey Team.

Court - good luck with the car - I have had a few unexpected car repairs this winter - not goodFrown - the expense has cut into my triathlon wants and needs and I don't like it!

Iceman - one of the things I had on my agend for tonights swim is to keep my legs a bit closer to together when kicking, glad you mentioned it (you reminded me)- Thanks.

Had a decent hour on the bike today but the legs were a bit tired from yesterday's run and from curling so I hope they don't drag me down (no pun intended) tonight in the pool.

I also dropped my bike off at my bike shop for a spring season tune up - I can't wait to get that thing off the trainer and on the road. I will have to do without it until Friday - gonna miss ya Cry.

Have a great day everyone.

KC

This week got a little hosed already.  I had to switch up the schedule more today as I lost some time but for good reason.

My fiance and I are no longer Facebook-engaged.  There's hardware now.  It's official.  I visited her on her route while she was delivering mail.Laughing

Great news Rob.  I took that road almost 15 years ago and have loved every minute.  Good luck.

As for the car.  It was a thermostat turned leaking gasket turned leaking hose.  Three trips to the parts store via bike and two hours later and I got it back.  I won't complain much we bought it 7 years ago for $1200 and haven't had to put much money into it over the years.  It (Honda)  may be 21 but I bet she'll go to 30.

Hey Team.

Hope you all had a great day.

Coach - I sure hope to get to ride outside soon. Still crappy weather here in Southwesten Ontario Canada - rain, cool blah and my bike is now in the shop getting a tune up for the season - so hopefully soon. I am running outside more now though, which is great.

Had a nice swim tonight. 1100 meters, mixed it up with some decent distances for me. Met a faculty friend at the pool who is thinking about getting involved in this crazy sport. If you can believe it he was complementing me on my technique and I was helping him LOL. He is new to it like me but it was fun.

Run and swim on tap for Wednesday.

Have a great night team.

Hey Coach.

I have been told I should participate but I am a bit self conscious about my ability right now. I might consider doing it after this season. Maybe in the fall - we will see. The one at the college also starts at 5:30 but I am not afraid of that.

I know the masters class at my local Y does alot of speed work.  They compete against other local masters groups at swim meets.  They leave the workout board out and I check it out.  They also work on different strokes, not just freestyle.

Hey Team.

Just got back from a little lunch time run. The weather today here is awesome. It would have been a nice day for a bike except mine is in getting tuned up. Anyway, the run was nice except I had to spend about 3 minutes fending off a dog that was interested in biting me. I got the best of it but it was a pain. It was trying to come up from behind me so I had to eventually chase it away and toss some stones at it or it would have probably taken a chance on biting me. I just hate when that happens. I guess I better start packing my pepper spray. I came back the same route and there it was again, only this time I picked up a stick along the way and it did not come as close on the way by that time. This ever happen to any of you guys? I love dogs, had a golden for 13 years but I hate dog owners that are not considerate of other people Yell

Have a great day everyone.

Swim tonight.

KC
