Have a safe trip and and enjoy the time with your family. I hope you and Jeff have a great ride together as well. I also understand how you feel about the kids. This is my son's last year of high school and my girls have already graduated. They are all pretty much grown up the only problem is none of them look like they are leaving anytime soon lol. Joanne glad to hear you had a great run and good to see you back at it with your training. I've seen that show that you mentioned and I think that is a little too hardcore for me lol. I would last 10 minutes on that show get out alive. Derek good luck and be safe at the 10K this weekend. Sounds like you have a great chance to get your PR. I'd go for it. Dina I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I'd probably take it easy with the running, maybe you might consider riding the bike a little more. Also glad to hear that you are considering signing up for more races. Ha ha, yeah. I'm at 119 miles for the week and it is only Wednesday! That is probably more than I road all of last month Breakthrough ride for me this morning with 40 miles by myself at an average pace of 19.8 mph. The area I was in is completely flat and there was only a 5 mph wind so really ideal conditions. I've never tried to grind it out continuously for that long, it was a mental challenge as much physical. Now that I am done my legs feel fine and I think I probably could have pushed a lot harder at the beginning. Thats a great cycling week! How does 19.8 MPH for an average make you feel? It should make you feel like an ANIMAL!! If you don't feel that way there's something wrong with you. I imagine you are beginning to feel some saddle soreness but it's worth it in the end. You're doing great for the lower volume you had been carrying up to this point. You'll be dialed in quite nicely when your aqua bike comes around. I'm a Junkie so of course that ride left me feeling like I could have worked harder ha ha ha! Saddle is fine but my neck & shoulder blades were really starting to feel it at the end of Wednesdays ride. I'm going to ride easy today on the hybrid which is now all tricked out with working brakes and clipless pedals And Tracey, I felt really spoiled riding that long on a weekday! Not something I'm used to at all. I'm kind of in a weird place right now for me with an empty house all day. I've gone from full time working/dedicated teacher to full time stay at home mom to ????????? I'm not sure what I'm doing but I'll figure it out. I'm torn between wanting to help bring in some more income for the family vs knowing that someone still needs to be here to run the kids around/help with homework and all that. If you were working, who would take care of your kids if they got sick and had to stay home? If your family doesn't need your income, stay home and be a super fabulous, FIT, mommy that makes rocking lunches for her kids and yummy family dinners. (I'm still jealous of your long, weekday ride. ROCK SOLID point! Dina, being a stay at home mom isn't for the faint of heart! Lis stayed home with the girls for years. Kyrie (pronounced Erie with a K) was in 7th grade before she went back to work during the week. It was one of the best decisions we could have possibly made for our family! Bar NONE! Allowing her to raise our kids and foster the values we chose rather than someone else is was great. No one can ever take away the memories the girls will have of their mother spending time with them at home, volunteering in their class rooms at school and being field trips with them. As Tracy said, if you can afford to stay home you'll never regret it. |

By eliminating the run, I'm expecting to be in the hunt. They say live tracking is available online, but I have no idea how accurate or up to the minute it will be. I will now not be checking up on you, I'm sorry to say. Laiken's birthday is Aug 30 and we were all supposed to go to Florida over the entire weekend but since she has moved out and needs the money she'll stay home and work. So, with that in mind, we are going to celebrate her birthday tomorrow around noon so she can go to work a little after that. What that means is that my 3rd century ride in 3 weeks will have to wait for one additional day this week. I'll be on the bike Sunday morning and not online. Rest assured I'll be checking in on you as soon as I get home!! |

From their site: Go to www.rev3tri.com and click the Live link so get updates from your athlete. I'll try to post my bib number when we get it Saturday. It really gave me a lift last weekend to know someone here may have been following me. I'm a little concerned as my nose is still rather painful with goggles on, but I suppose I should be more concerned that this weekend's swim will close to double my swim yardage for the summer. The swim time on this course includes a long run up the beach (took me just under 1 1/2 minutes last year), and from there to transition is still a long way, about 1/3 mile, so the T times will be slow as well. Well, mine are always slow, but T1 will be even longer than normal. Just prepping so you know what the times mean if you're watching. I missed this post earlier Warren. I'll be tracking you and cheering from IL with prayers for no issues with your nose espe! cially during the swim! Best wishes for a great event. |

Please don't disappoint me! JoAnne I'm hoping that is the case. It's going to be in the 90's next week in Madison and only in the upper 70's and low 80's here in NY. It'll be a tough race if it's in the 90's. I'm not looking for any snow but I'll take a nice 70 degree day with little to no wind on the swim or the bike course. If you can make that happen for Sept 8th please let me know LOL! |

Has anyone used either of these for a race before? |

Warren why is it that the old guys like us always get colors like hot pink? I had to rock the hot pink swim cap at Syracuse, well at least you will be making a fashion statement. I hope the water warms up for you that's pretty cold, incentive for you to swim fast. I've never used gloves, booties or the neoprene swim cap either. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() WARREN - I used the booties for one race several years ago. I have bad circulation in my toes so they definitely helped keep them from turning white. I remember, though, that I was somewhat bothered by them (just an annoying feeling) during the swim since it was the first time I'd tried them out (yes, bad me). I'd at least recommend you trying them out for a quick swim if you have time to see if you can stand the feeling of them. I'd done some research for that same race about the neoprene caps and most folks hate using them. I used someone else's suggestion of wearing two caps and that's worked out well for me. I put on one, then my goggle, then the race colored cap. That helps keep my head warm and keeps the goggles tight. However, since you're such a fast swimmer, I don't know if I'd bother with either the booties or the cap because you'll be in and out of the water so fast you won't have time to be cold. Good luck! TRACY - You'd asked about changing tires on my Zipps. I've not had to do it yet. However, when the guy at my LBS put them on he told me never to come back to have them changed because they were impossible to put on. He was serious. He doesn't work at my LBS any more but I also don't go there for anything other than buying gels. I plan on looking into a better, more pliable tire soon so I can change it myself. I got the Continental tires and wouldn't recommend them for the Zipps.

Oh man that's cold I did a race here when it was pretty cold didn't use any of those items, but I know there were stipulations on what you could wear Iam thinking they didn't allow the gloves.....you might want to double check on that. |

They are wonderful! The booties can be a little floppy. Make sure the ankles of your wetsuit secure them down and then don't worry about them. The neoprene cap attaches under your chin. Make sure it isn't going to freak you out with the slight constriction right there. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wouldn't mind a pink cap. Anything would be better than the same boring green ones I've had in almost every race. I did get to wear a red one in my last race though. Good luck on the race Warren! Busy week this week with kids going back to school. My wife and I are sleeping on a brand new mattress this week too. Waiting for the mattress to break in a little since it is a firmer mattress than we had before and its leaving me a bit sore in the mornings. Just finished a short brick workout in preparation for my next races. I'll be racing next Saturday at the Tinman (sprint) in Mount Shasta and then the Superman (mini sprint) the following Sunday at Rancho Seco. I'm going into the first one as a training race. it has a single mass start of 300+ competitors so it should be an interesting race experience.

Good luck! Have you done the Tinman? Be careful of all the newbies out there. That mass start concerns me with so many people that have never participated in a triathlon. It's a fun race, though. |

Wow that is surprising to me that they would do a mass start for a sprint. Most of the local races here typically do a wave start or time trial start. Especially for first timers that seems like a pretty rough introduction to a triathlon swim. |

She was a high fallutin' finance professional at a huge company, so it was a *little* tough to make the decision, but she really wanted to stay home once Zack was born. We really took a huge leap of faith since I was changing careers from blue to white collar and starting at the bottom - the story is way too long for BT but if we're out for beers sometime ask me about. It was the best decision we've ever made. |
