wgraves7582 - 2009-11-17 10:08 AM Don't eat like me during training but if you zoom in you can see some pepsi, gatorade, chicken fingers, and an empty pizza slice box.

The saying is don't eat anything you would not during training - I knew I would be eating junk like that so I trained eating that stuff so it did not bother my stomach at all - the guy I was riding with mainly just laughed and was waiting for me to puke somewhere out there but it never happened!

That is the best training plan I've ever heard of

*Junk food training toppage*

Neal - most on this thread would shake their head but there was not going to be infinit or other health stuff and I don't know how the stomach would handle that over 24+ straight hours.

Sometimes you just need good old fashion junk food to carry you through!

oh man.  eating like that i would MOST DEFINATELY PUKE.  but what a 'luxury' to go into a race and be able to down whatever it is that you need to get you through to the end...

when i heard what my friend ate during her IM im like holy crap.  she needed a backpack JUST for food!

its crazy!

was there support along the way BILL or did you have to carry food w you, or did you just find places to stop along the way?

i know that you talked about your ride when were in the other challenge together...i cant remember what you said though.

crickey!

That sammich sounds delicious - can you spare one (even though I just got some leftovers from a co-worker - homemade stuffed shells and a meatball with her sauce - yummy) but I always have extra space for good food!

I had a bento box with my zone bars (about 12 of those) and then we would hit gas stations at certain points along the route and we would refuel there.

The key is when you are out in hicksville you have to realize that food is not going to be a strong point so you better get your stomach used to pizza and chicken fingers because that is what you are going to be eating at some point.

Oh - BTW - No support - all on our own except this year when I pass by Neals house in Ames for dinner Cool

holy schista!  did you at least know in advance where the gas stations were gonna be, or did you have to figure it out along the way.

hicksville gas stations=crappy pizza and chicken fingers....more like chicken POPPERS   you aint kidding.

and man that's a long way to go w/out support....cept for our MAINMANGHOULIE NEAL!  [is he SERIOUSLY on the route??]

my stomach is SO p[icky, i seriously doubt that i could do a race like that...even w training w certain foods, my stomach gets into a bunch.

just as an aside.

this oatmeal.

uber yummmy.

there is just something about warm oatmeal.

In response to Stacie's favorite Christmas cookie question the other day...

I'm a fan of your basic chocolate chip cookie, they have to be soft though, not so much of a fan of the crunchy ones.

PB cookies are good, too, especially with the Hershey's Kiss in the middle of them.

Has anyone ever heard of or had potato candy? My dad makes it. It involves a boiled potato all smushed up, lots of 10x sugar and peanut butter, I think maybe a little vanilla, too.

I'll agree with Bill here.  If found some real doozies along my regular training routes

Going to go longer in some training rides before the race, going to have a rear rack and pack that I can put everything but my camelback water supply in, and not going to sweat it.  It is going to hurt no matter what - when it does put the IPod on and just go after it.

I should have never stopped last year but I did and there is nothing I can do about it now except use that as motivation when I might want to stop this time.

We have no idea what the route is until we get to each checkpoint and then it is only road names and to someone not from the area that means nothing to me at all.  I doubt Ames is on the route but we finish in a barn this year - that should be cool!

A barn finish.  How fitting

My favorite "Christmas" cookie are cutouts but my favorite cookie at Christmas are my s-i-l chocolate chip cookies - yummy - plus peanut butter - plus pb with the Hershey Kiss in the middle

I will have you know that I make the second best chocolate chip cookies this side of the Mississippi. My SIL's BFF makes the best.
