![]() | ![]() Jeff, 9 miles in the mud sounds like a blast - if you're 15! Actually it does sound like it will be a brutal workout. Work hard and stay healthy. I've got a 2 hour run with strides planned for tomorrow, then a recovery run and 90 minutes on the trainer Sunday. It's supposed to cool off again for us this weekend, and I'm ok with that. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I thought I posted this yesterday, but it doesn't look like it went through. The swim clinic has helped me to identify the areas where I need to work, such as body rotation and pretty much all parts of my stroke. I need some drills to work on these things individually. Does anyone have some direction of where I can find some swimming drills to do? And on a somewhat related note, how about a resource for body position on the bike? I feel like I'm not positioned correctly, and some visual aids would help. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dirk, any time will work for me. I'll just throw 9am out there, but if something works better for you I am flexible. Brenda, do you want to come along too? Jonathan, you new pic cracks me up. Jeff, good luck on your trail run tomorrow! Dina, glad you are safe and sound. Did you get in a trainer ride? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff that 9 mile mud run sounds like fun, I have a trail run scheduled for next week. well if I can get motivated for it, the last one kicked my but and I haven't been doing much trail running. I will wait and see what the weather is like, if its nice an muddy I will do it but at a slllooww pace. Dina: That would of been some great speed with the wind at your back, probably would of needed to watch out for the flying monkey's though. Those things are scary, get me everytime!! My weekend is set up to be a fairly easy weekend Sunday I have an easy 12 mile group run scheduled, the easy portion depends on who show's up. Majority of us like 9:45-10m pace, but one person wants to push the pace to 9m. I think he just likes to show off. Of course for most of the run the majority wins out and the pace stays around 9:30. Finally Sunday afternoon will be spent in the kayak, buddy let slip that the Bass are biting at the local lake. Like I said its going to be a nice easy weekend! Hope everyone has a good weekend!! |

For body position on the bike the best thing is going to be posting some pics of yourself on your bike. A couple of things to consider when taking and posting the pics.

If Brenda goes will we go to Columbia City? I am good with wherever and I am going to put it in my calendar so I don't forget about it. Just let me know if the time needs to change. BTW, I don't think I am going to race the Tri-Force race at Spiece. I don't think I am really into the indoor tri thing. If I get a big itch tomorrow I'll see if they are still taking entries and make a final decision then. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff and Matt, Enjoy the races tomorrow and make sure you bring the can of Junkie tail kickin' to whoop up on your opponents. And a trail race would be good. I enjoyed the mud and mess of the Huff 50K relay I did last year. Brenda, I am planning on doing the Muncie race May 12 because my daughter's senior prom is May 19 and Lis doesn't want to miss my race or ANYTHING to do with Laiken's senior prom. I have not done the Pokagon either. I would like to do it sometime but this year isn't going to be the year. I may consider volunteering for it if I can get out of there fairly quick after it's over. ______________ On a personal training note: I swam a 2000 TT tonight for the first time ever. I wouldn't describe it as a true TT though. I wasn't really sure how to pace for this distance since I NEVER do anything like this in my WO's, so I tried to go a little bit easier than my 500 sets might be. I ended up going at 30:38 but I messed up a couple of times so the time I think should be just a tad quicker once I get this thing figured out a little more. When I finished I still had some left and wasn't dying for air. I would like to see how things go in about 8 weeks or so, after I have done a few more of these. I also got a very nice 11 mile run in today. |

You can search YouTube for the drills. Often there are a few videos of people doing them. The quality varies, but you can find a good one for most drills. I've found it really helpful. Good luck everyone doing stuff this weekend! I'm probably going to end up with a life and weather forced day off, but it is what it is. I'm still on a recovery week this week anyway, so I'm not too worried about it. We'll cross tomorrow's bridge when we come to it. The weather is still supposed to be bad and I'm going to be busy anyway. Have a great weekend everyone. |

![]() | ![]() I just found out my long run today will be with a heavy heart. My uncle (my mother's brother), who at times has served as a mentor and second father for me, has been battling cancer for a while and doing very well. He's really inspired me as we sort of followed the same path of being high school/college athletes, then getting grotesquely out of shape through our 30s and 40s, then getting fit right before 50. Even at 79 he was so fit that the specialists in Boston have been giving him treatments for which he's the oldest known recipient. I just found out he has contracted pneumonia and is in ICU. We can't see him until later tonight, and he's not expected to make a recovery, though with him nothing would surprise us too much. At this point he's lived the good life and raised a great crew, and I understand death is a natural part of life. One complication is that my mother is in Florida on an extended vacation, so she's flying home this afternoon; I'll be going down to Boston to get her. One of our prayers is that she gets to see him and at least say a proper goodbye. For those so inclined, raise a prayer for him and the whole family. Thanks. |

The run can be a great time to focus on remembrance of all the important things he has brought into your life. And that healing and recovery isn't out of reach with Faith and trust. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay! Okay! I couldn't take it!!!! I just got in for the indoor triathlon tomorrow. I couldn't take it any longer! I just have to race! 20 minute swim, 20 minute ride and 20 minute run. I will probably pass out and/or puke by the time I am done because I'm not slowing anything down for today's training. 40-45 mile ride coming as soon as I get my chain replaced. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren, you and your family are in my prayers today.
I hope this weekend's racers have a great time. I just tested my new Brooks Night-life II jacket in the rain on my run this morning. It worked great as a windbreaker on the 12k last weekend, not so much for shedding rain. By mile 1 my arms were soaked through and when I finished up a little over 4 miles I was drenched through to the skin. The run felt good overall though and my new Sugoi Piston 200 running tights felt great for the whole run.

![]() Warren - I'm so sorry to hear about your Uncle and will be in prayer for your family. What a good man to have impacted you so positively. Vero - It's always fun to try out new gear. Sorry the Brooks jacket didn't hold out the water but glad you enjoyed your Sugoi's. Allison and Dirk - I can't find where you discussed what day you'd like to meet. I definitely want to join in the swim. Dirk - Way to take the plunge on the race tomorrow! Good Luck! Nothing like a race to get the ole' heart beat pumping. ![]() I had my first race of the year today (a 5K) and it was just OK. I don't know how you go about putting up a race report when the race isn't on the BT calendar. Do you have to create an event or is it simpler than that? I want to be better at inputing race info this year. Due to being a part of this group and your recommendations, I've kept up with my training log, so that's a step in the right direction. Now if I can figure how to put races in I'll be another step right. Thanks for whatever help you can give this old technically challenge lady. ![]() |

![]() | ![]() Thanks for all the support everyone. Dirk, you're absolutely right on the Faith and trust part. and way to find a race to get the season started. Sorry about the jacket Jonny - you'll find one that works. As one of my running friends says - there's no bad weather, just bad equipment. Brenda, if the race isn't on the BT calendar, you have to create it. It's not too difficult, but if you send me a link to the race page, or at least the race info (name, date, location) I'll enter it and you can get that race report up. I had maybe the best run of my life today. It was a great therapeutic time out thinking and praying. I did my long run and ran at a relatively easy pace keeping my HR in check, and it was a good 15 seconds/mile faster than "normal" for this HR and distance. The strides were WAY faster and felt more comfortable this week than last. I'm very encouraged by this one. |

I am really glad that you could get some alone time today. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren, I will be sure to keep him in our prayers. Well, same ol story here. The weather. I had planned on another long ride Thurs., but as usual it was too cold and windy (30+ mph). Yesterday, the same thing. Today, I at least got in a swim and a run. The rest of the week is rain, snow, cold, wind, etc. Looks like the gym is going to be my friend this week. Work is kicking my a$$, I am working 6 days - 10 hr days. It's really messing with training and sleep. Hopefully it will get back to normal in a couple weeks. Everyone keep training hard & good luck on your races.
