My longest will be on Friday (18-20 miles). Plan on starting around 3:30 so during the hottest part of the day. I got in 8.50 miles at lunch today and it was flipping hot. I was dripping dripping sweat like no other, but I was able to finish with out walking and was able to keep the pace at 8:15/mi which I was happy with.  Now I cant seem to drink enough water...

Took off Froday to do my long ride (100 miles).  Stoopid wind is going to be blowing at 25 with gusts to 40.  Saturday looks no better so may as well get it done Friday.

well, it isnt TJ's 23 miler, but I did get my longest run ever done today. Went out this afternoon but the weather had cooled off and it was drizzling a little (definitely not what we will see in May) .. ended up with 18 miles in 2:36 ... last week it was 17 this week 18, next week 19-20! LOL .. legs feel pretty good right now,and hopefully will be OK for the 2 hour bike I have planned tomorrow

Um, I'm still getting snowed on.  Maybe I can carry a portable AC unit with me for the whole race?

Can you bring some of that cold air with you in May? Please leave the actual snow and winds behind though. Thanks!

I tried that for LoneStar but it seems I just brought wind.

Wacky tidbit - I rode the IMTX course the Friday before LoneStar, using what worked for me when I lived in Houston (I just moved to Denver in January).  After 3 hours I had the worst heat headache and felt icky (muscles were strong, I just had no brain cells).  Talked to my coach, she asked me how much sodium per hour I was taking in.  I said 400 mg/hr, same as the past 2 summers I lived in Houston.  She told me that I needed 1,000 mg/hour  - minimum (!!!!) and to buy SaltStick tabs ASAP.  Tried it out on the LoneStar course, taking one pill every 20 min, and it worked like a champ.  But crazy to think that I took in ~4,000 mg of salt that day.  Oof.

Sorry, haven't had much time to post. Gotta little race coming up in a month that's taking up all of my time
Did want to respond to the idea/rumor of the wave start. UNTRUE. There will be two waves, as there are at any Ironman: Pros and age groupers. Pros will go off at 6:40, all Age Groupers at 7:00am.

If the water temp is above 76.1 and below 84, we will have two check ins on race morning. One for those wanting to wear a wetsuit and be ineligible for awards, and one for athletes who won't wear a wetsuit and will be eligible for Kona Slots and awards.

We'll have 2 corrals, that you'll check in that morning.
BUT, you'll all be starting together...

It's a MASS START, BABY!

Can't tell you what the water temp will be right now, but we've got it covered either way.

We'll see you all in a month

DONE!  It was HOT!!  20 miles in 3 hrs.  Heat broke me down to average a 9:00 minute mile pace.  I'll take that.

So tough to get your hydration in order with these long runs.  I swear that head wind felt like I was running up a hill.

I had my butt handed to me by the wind yesterday.  I did an out and back from my house to Dobbin on the IMTX course and I was blown all over the place.  I think on race day I am going to set my watch to cadence and HR so I do not see MPH.  I get myself in trouble doing that.

I usualy see dead snakes on the course, but yesterday I almost ran over 3 live onles.  Two just scared me, but the thrid scared the out of me and I almost broke my cleat trying to get my leg away from it.  It jumped back, but it was a coral snake and I know they have some serious venom.  I also saw a huge tortise leaving the road towards a ditch with water.  I think this time of year turtles lay eggs, or it could just be the drought since I have seen a few the last couple of weeks.

Same experience with the wind here yesterday.  Took the day off to do my long ride and it was a beatdown.

It has to let up soon...right

The wind was just insane today. I had to ride my local route today (Fry rd etc..) vs the IMTX coarse. Nothing to break it I was cranking 14-16 mph, with the wind 23-25. But it's an out and back route. I forget how many loops I did, but I shut it down at 85 miles. The wind won, I didn't want to fight it anymore, it was knocking me down to 12-13 mph. So much tougher than the IMTX coarse. It was mentally screwing with me. Good leg workout though! Dropped a 7 mile run afterwards to make up for my weak performance.
