Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas This wind may not be such a bad thing considering that we could have lots on race day. I do agree that it is exhausting for the mind and body, but the more we sweat in combat, the less we'll bleed in war. |

Come to think of it, your right, better to fight it now and get used to it.Can we all say "heat" and "wind" acclimation! |

You can rent the chip from myathletegps.com. They won't be at the race, but they'll ship you the chip and then you ship it back. My dad is insisting that I get one so he can track where I am, despite the fact that they'll be there. |

Said they will not be there but I can choose the one-day rental ($20). They will ship it to the hotel for arrival Thursday or Friday (+2). All I have to do is drop it back in the mail Monday. In the scheme of what I have bought for this race, I think a $20 investment is not a bad deal! Plus I was impressed that they responded to an e-mail on a Saturday night. Granted, this may be one guy working out of his parents basement but what the heck! |

Marcy, My buddy did this last year at IMlou and it was great. His parents followed him on an iPad at the race. We tracked him all day on the pc and it was very easy to use. |

Elite 3088 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas So after thinking about the heat and humidity and the effect it would have on the others in the race, I decided to do some data crunching to look at how many of my fellow AGers may not quite be ready for what we have in store for them down here. Before I could even start looking at that though, here's what jumped out at me after sorting the participant list: AG # of partcipants M30-34 253 M35-39 440 M40-44 461 M45-49 305 Guess which AG is mine. I mean, really? Largest AG in the race is STILL mine? It was the same thing at IMLP in 2006 and IMAZ in 2007. All the other idiots who have been out there racing with me are apparently still doing so! |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I feel sorry for the people coming down from the north for this race. Ran 2:15 today and lost 5.5 pounds. I live in the Houston area and have my nutrition/water/salt needs down pretty well. What is scary is that it was only 83 down here with SSE winds 22, Gusts 32 and humidity at 65%. Can't wait to see what the third week in May has in store for us. Orginally my plan had been to run with a fuel belt since I use inifint. I've been running with it for the last few months to prepare for the race. Now that the heat has kicked in there is no way that I'm running with a fuel belt during the race. Ran the first 3 miles with it this morning and ended up taking it off because it is too hot to have around my waist. I was tempted to measure the amount of water that came out of my socks when I took them off after the run but restrained myself! |

Pro 4174 Keller, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas my second 15 miler DONE. This will be my longest run until the 21st. This is my longest distance run ever. I really felt good. I look at it like I ran almost 2 loops of IMTX in 3 hours. I definitely had it in me to keep going so that was confidence boosting. Some tired muscles and a blister on one of my toes but no real aches or pains to speak of. Again, a very good thing! Learned some lessons... An Uncrustable at the start and 1 GU at mile 8 is not enough nutrition Body Glide is very important, you realize this a lot when you forget it Humidity is draining Anyway, last long bike on Friday and starting taper with a half marathon on Sunday. How skewed is that? |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I had my last long run today as well - 3 hours, nearly 16 miles. Only I had 20 x 3 min fartleks tossed in there. And as a bonus, I did not get snowed on (although the temperature was 37 when I started). I had to to yesterday's ride on the trainer because of the snow. I am going to die with the heat, but there's not much I can do about it. Run was good, though! I felt like I could have gone on for a good bit. The only thing that was bothering me was my feet, but that's why I have new-ish shoes to change into at special needs. |
