Once notified it could be a day or sobefore the group goes live, so be on the lookout.I have enjoyed each and every person in this group and I hope each of you will be better athletes because of the experience you have gotten from all four of the mentors here. If you continue with the mentoring gros, enjoy the experience and the upcoming racing season.I am now done posting from my phone! Man I hate posting from this thing!!!!It looks like the mentor session is drawing to a close. We will continue to post here until the next session begins and we will continue to offer advice until then. I will remain in the mentor groups in some form but I am not sure to what capacity just yet. I will let you all know as soon as I have made a determination . |

Dirk - Thank you for your commitment to this group and your mentoring. I learned a bunch from you and from many others in the group. I enjoyed reading about everyone's successes as well as how everyone battled through their own life challenges, tough workouts, and injuries. The passion that you have for triathlon comes through in all of your posts. Thanks again. Curtis |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hope all of you Californians are back to good weather. Jonathan and Warren, thanks for the feedback on my swim. Great tips for how to correct some problems. I’ll try to work on all of that J Jo, I hope things are settling down for you. It looks like your training is keeping you very busy too. What an impressive workout log! Warren, so sorry about your uncle. We’ll all be thinking of you. Jeff, great race! Way to start off the tri season! Good job to your son, too. Your kids sound awesome! Dirk, thanks for being mentor to all of us. It was a pleasure to be in your group. Thanks to all of the other “mentors” in the group too. I went to a ladies night at the local bike shop over the weekend and finally learned how to change a flat tire! Next year you’ll have to go with me, Brenda. It was a lot of fun. I can tell that I raced hard on Saturday. My legs still ache today. Now I really see why you guys wanted me to keep the wear on my legs to a minimum. |

![]() Oh, Allison - that does sound fun. Definitely keep me in mind next year. Dirk, Warren, Jonathan and Jeff - A sincere thank you for the time and effort you put into our group. You were all so helpful and fun. Thank you for answering all my questions and even finding my sweet helmet and pedals for my new bike. ![]() I'm glad I connected with the rest of you and thank you for sharing your tri journey with me. You each taught me something and helped make the winter go by quickly. It'll be nice to stay connected with some of you on Facebook and I'll look forward to seeing Matt, Dirk and Allison at some events. Good Luck to the rest of you as you race this year! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can't believe the mentor session is coming to an end! I can truly say I wouldn't be where I am now without what you guys have taught me, so thank you Dirk, Warren, Jeff and Jonathan! I'm glad to hear you all are going to continue mentoring and I hope I can be around for it! Jeff - great race and great race report. I hope everyone else is doing well. |

I feel like I'm just getting started and I have not even raced yet so I'll probably be looking to join again if you don't mind me tagging along. I need at least monthly reminders on how to manage my return to running Good luck to everyone with your training and the rest of your race season! I'll be popping in to check on you all as I just (this weekend) updated my friends with everyone from the group LOL.

![]() Dirk, Warren, Jeff and Jonathon thanks for the running advice. I will do my best! Aiming for 5 days this week. It is just a matter of making it a priority. It's too easy to blow off a 5 min run as not important. My husband looked at me the other day and said it took me longer to put on my shoes and get dressed than I actually ran LOL Good stuff again!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() trigal38 - 2012-04-02 1:50 PM Dirk, Warren, Jeff and Jonathon thanks for the running advice. I will do my best! Aiming for 5 days this week. It is just a matter of making it a priority. It's too easy to blow off a 5 min run as not important. My husband looked at me the other day and said it took me longer to put on my shoes and get dressed than I actually ran LOL Good stuff again!! I promise that I completely understand how you feel. It helps to do those 5 minute runs along with the other workout for the day (if any) because you only get ready once. But think of it as rehab. In my case with my shoulder surgery I felt a lot like this regarding my 'weight' training. At first I was just going in there and moving baby weights and it felt pointless. I wasn't using enough muscle to get any fitness from it. But those early 'workouts' that I just blindly did as part of my structure served to really accelerate my rehab...my return to strength training. It's very much like your back exercises. They don't serve any direct purpose regarding triathlon or overall health but they do help the back which then lets you train and live the life you want to be living. On a day that's got no cycling or swimming, consider putting together a short run, your back exercises, and additional core work to make a full 30+ minute block of training. BTW, if you can tell for certain that you can safely do more than 5 minutes you are free to do so. The 5 minute idea isn't intended to keep you from doing the amount you know you can do, but to prompt you to run when you are otherwise wary of the risk involved...to prompt you to do more than you think you can do (when the alternative is no run).

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Like Dina, I feel like I've only just gotten started. All of you have helped me improve my training, but I still have so much to learn, especially on the swim. I'd like to continue on in whatever group you guys start. And sometime this week or early next I'll be doing my first open water swim in a wetsuit!
Jeff - Looks like you had a great race, and running a 5k with your son is awesome. My daughter (almost 11) did one with my wife this past year and I'm hoping she might get into cross country at her junior high next school year. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This has been a great time with all of you! Like Dina & Vero, I too am only getting started. I'm just starting to ramp up my training. My bike is good, my running is just getting started, and my swim is ok. My body feels like it's at 100% now. So, count me in for the new group. I can only get better with all the advice and tips on here.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have not heard when the new group goes live. So those of you that are interested in sticking with the "Asphalt Junkies" keep an eye on the mentor threads on the Mentor Program page. I will agree with all of you that this session seems to have flown by. It's hard to believe it's been 3 months since we started. everyone has picked up a lot of training and been able to make fitness gains, become a little more healthy and less injured or learned to manage injuries better. As a reminder, we will continue to post here and answer questions until the new group goes live. If anyone would like to try to jump into a different group that is currently opened, I would jump soon. Some of the best groups will likely fill up pretty fast. Personally, I think once word gets out about this group it will fill quickly...............but then I might be a little partial. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, what the ? We got archived that's no fun! I guess I will just have to start looking for a new group!
Yeah, Right! Your not going to lose me that easy. Training side: I also had a lazy Friday and Saturday. It wasn't planned but everything kind of built up and my wife said the "honey do" list was getting long. Figured I would get chores done on Saturday, with the support she gives me its the least I can do! Once Sunday came I was ready, 10 mile run turned into 13, and it was EASY! Don't want to rub, but held 9:15 pace and had no discomfort, no stress and very little soreness today. I woke today feeling I could run 8 with no issues. Of course I thought better of it and went for a 15 mile bike ride instead. Someone once told me that there were 3 events in a TRI and I should work on them all! My HIM training schedule starts next week |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wbayek - 2012-04-02 9:43 AM It ended Saturday with a trip with my wife to Lago's, which is one of our favorite “out to eat” ice cream places on the seacoast. Jonathan may know of it. They have a flavor called Scotty Lago’s Bronze Run, named after the bronze medal Scotty won snowboarding at the Vancouver Olympics. (the owner is his uncle). Anyway, we had an awesome time enjoying the cone and that sort of marked the end of my off time. So you drove right by my house...within a mile and didn't call??? You're lucky I was out of town. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dirk, Jeff, Jonathan, and Warren, I really appreciate the time you all have taken to help us out. I have learned so much here, and it's pretty exciting to feel my body getting stronger. I think that it's pretty cool with the amount of injuries and other adversities how this group has stayed strong, positive, and committed. I'm proud of everyone here! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The weather broke on Sunday and in the afternoon I did a couple hours of pulling weeds and running the weed eater before my run. Then yesterday during my swim and the run my hamstrings let it be known that they didn't care for yard work in those amounts. I'm still really sore today (the muscles feel super tight). I'm planning a short run today anyway, but it's going to be a challenge.
On a more positive note: I swam yesterday and took it very easy. 6x100 with 30 sec rest between after a 6x25 warmup and no gas discomfort afterward. I didn't even feel the need to belch air during any part of the swim. I'm getting closer! |

I didn't even feel the need to belch air during any part of the swim. I'm getting closer! You are showing some tenacity with your swim. Keep at it and you WILL conquer the problem. Next time you pull weeds, wear kneepads if necessary and pull them from your knees not from your feet! A slow, easy run is probably going to speed your recovery. Just be careful to go slow and easy. If you 'squat' in to your stride more, then it uses less hamstring and might be less painful. Good job on training AFTER getting your yard work done. I usually fail to get my workout in if I take on something exhausting like that beforehand.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wbayek - 2012-04-02 9:43 AM On my own training front, I took 2 days (Thur and Fri) completely off after my uncle passed Weds night. The funeral was Saturday, so it was all put together pretty quick. I went on a bit of an ice cream bender over that time, and for those who know me, my "norm" is what most would call a bender so for me to say it was a bender is really saying something. It actually felt great to indulge a little. It ended Saturday with a trip with my wife to Lago's, which is one of our favorite “out to eat” ice cream places on the seacoast. Surprisingly, the damage to my weight was not very much if I can believe this morning’s weigh in and my long run Sat and bike Sunday actually went great. I apologize for not offering my codolences sooner but I would like to offer my prayer suport to you and your family as you continue through the grieving process. |
