Bike Gear Bag.

Helmet and shoes must go in the bike gear bag, understand the rational to have no loose gear in the transitions compound, but I was planning to kick off the bike leg with shoes clipped in....this will be a first for me in a while.

Nope in the bag....

kcwoodhead - 2011-04-27 5:06 PM Has anyone heard about race morning logistics? If you want to do anything to your bike that morning (ie air tires, put nutrition on, etc), you have to do that at Town Green Park. Everything else (special needs drop, bodymarking, etc) is at North Shore park. It looks like its a mile between the two. Yes, we are ironman and can walk, but carrying special needs stuff, and before racing, that isn't super high on my list of things to do. Ew - and it also says "transition open - 4:30-5:30am."....is that it? ie you have to be done with what you are going to do by 5:30? I think that is when I have gotten up for my last ironmans! ETA - it says bodymarking closes at 5:30 too...so you have to go to transition, walk a mile, and be bodymarked all before 5:30? I'm hoping that is a typo...

Last year at IMSG they had temporay tattoo guy putting race numbers on at athlete check-in on wens and thurs, hopefully will have the same set-up here.  Took one less worry out of race morning. Especially since in this case you may only have your swim cap and goggles with you and no id (bib) with your race number, just your chip that they would need to scan to validate your number; on that note don't leave you chip in transition then you will have to make the 1 mile jog to go get it and by then transition may be closed...  crap another thing worry about!

dhopman - 2011-04-27 5:19 PM Say whaaaaaaa? No Friday check-in?
Oh, you have to check your bike and gear bags on Friday, but usually you visit your bike on race morning to air the tires, put your bike bottles on it, etc. I also usually put my run nutrition in my t2 bag on race morning as well. I don't want that stuff baking any longer than it has to.

I'm good on bike/gear check...but I'm talking about this statement:

"Athlete check-in hours for Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas athletes are Wednesday, May 18 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Thursday, May 19 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. If you do not check-in during the designated athlete check-in hours you will not be able to race."

This is problematic for rookies like me coming from out of state and booked a flight that doesn't arrive until very late Thursday. Didn't think I'd get DQ'd this fast...

As people stated, this is standard Ironman policy.  There's is no athlete check-in the day before the race. You may not have known that seeing as this is your first IM but it has been on the schedule since the schedule came out several months ago.  I hate to say it but that's entirely your fault.  I'd figure out how to change your flight to get here in time.  WTC is not very lenient with this policy.  They will make some exceptions for exigent circumstances but poor planning when the schedule was readily available is not an exigent circumstance.

I've been stalking this thread for a while.    My first IM was in November at IMFL, so the feelings you are all experiencing right now are still relatively fresh in my mind.  I wish you all the best of luck.  I will be out there race day cheering everyone on and will be volunteering from 6:30-11:30pm at aid station #4 with Team RWB.  I'lll be looking for you!

#1137 here. I wish I could say I was as excited as the rest of you, but I'm fighting a hard battle with physical and emotional butnout. I never had this when I trained for my first half-ironman. I'm hoping this will go away soon. I need to find that spark I had when I started this 20week plan.

I just got off the phone with The Marriott Residence on Lake Front Circle in The Woodlands.  This is not too far from all the events.  The director of sales said she had a few more rooms open up.   Her name is Tamera and number is 281-292-3252.

Just leave them on your bike when you check it in on Thurs...as apposed to your bag.  It can be done.

Might work to try out, but I'm not sure if it is worth risking...

From page 14: "7. Shoes must be placed inside the athlete’s bike-to-run gear bag in transition and may NOT be attached to the pedals. Only professional athletes may attach shoes to the pedals. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times."

I do think its okay to leave shoes on the bike when you come back into T2.

 # 1945 Checking in!

Had my first IM anxiety dream the other night - KJ threw a waterpark obstacle course into the middle of the run; I went through it and lost my shoes and had to go do it again to find my shoes and cost me over 2 hours and totally screwed up my target time and finished in the same time as my last IM (my only other IM), I was mad as hell they threw that water park in to the middle of the run!  Then I woke up and was extremely relieved it was just a dream.  I am sure this won't be the last one...

That's kind of funny - a friend and I were "daydreaming" over fruity drinks over the weekend and I decided they should have a human-sized shot block of sorts - an ice slip and slide for us to shoot through several times on the run course. So, maybe it doesn't have to be a nitemare!

If anyone has an extra room, pretty please let me know before cancelling.  I did call the Marriott but my only option was $360 night + taxes (their last room).

Looking for Friday and Saturday night fairly close to the action, otherwise, I might as well drive from home!
