For those who will be in or near the Woodlands on Saturday there is an opportunity for a legal swim in the lake. Costs $35 but they will have both long-course and short-course buoys set up. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lonestar-Multisport/144225416363 |

The published athlete guide clearly reads: "Helmets and cycling shoes MUST go into the athlete’s bike gear bag."

Fabulous! Funny though the note on the website says: "*Please note that changes have been made to the 2011 Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas Schedule. On race day, Transition will now remain open until 6:15 p.m. and Body Marking will remain open until 6:30 p.m. " PM. That is pretty funny. |

Yes and Yes - mainly the welcome dinner. YES GO...It's FREE food...well sorta...if you ignore the fact you paid $600+ for the entry fee...I did IMKY last year and the dinner was good. From what I remember, they had pasta (penne I believe), chicken, rolls, salads, and cake. |

Sweet .... What type of wheels .. need to see some bike porn with the new wheels installed on the Cervelo! I ordered a wheelbuilder disc cover that should be here on Friday. Just in time for this weekends 100+ miler ... I got a HED H3 wheelset with some continental gp4000s tires. They are SWEET! I just got back from my usual ~40 mile ride and averaged 1.4 mph faster!!! I tried to keep all the other things constant (e.g. HR, helmet, clothes, etc) and still ended up with the 1.4 boost. I don't think it's all from the wheelset though...I attribute some of the boost from the tires too. My regular wheelset sports some BOMB PROOF armadillos. Just switching out those tires alone probably gives me atleast a .5 boost. Maybe with these new wheels I might finally be able to keep up with you!!! I'll post bike porn later...right now she's a little dirty...I don't want to embarrass myself with a dirty lady Awesome news about the wheelbuilder!!! I love the way disc covers sound! |

jls42 - 2011-04-28 11:24 AM # 1945 Checking in! Had my first IM anxiety dream the other night - KJ threw a waterpark obstacle course into the middle of the run; I went through it and lost my shoes and had to go do it again to find my shoes and cost me over 2 hours and totally screwed up my target time and finished in the same time as my last IM (my only other IM), I was mad as hell they threw that water park in to the middle of the run! Then I woke up and was extremely relieved it was just a dream. I am sure this won't be the last one...
I got mine out of the way about a month ago when I had a dream I went from swim to run in T1. I was about a mile into the run when I realized everyone else was riding past me on a bike. I was so mad at the 20 minutes lost running. That would make for one monster T1 time. Haha. I think this was a result of me second guessing the decision not to do Kemah or Galveston. I must have thought that not doing a tri in 6 months would make me forget the order of events. Geez.

I do agree that it is exhausting for the mind and body, but the more we sweat in combat, the less we'll bleed in war. Very good point. Come to think of it, your right, better to fight it now and get used to it.Can we all say "heat" and "wind" acclimation! @ evillarroel.... You were right. I changed my mind in regards to the wind from Hate it, to a love/hate relationship. I have been riding againt the wind for weeks now, as everyone else here in Texas I am sure. Today the wind was calm, and what a difference from yesterdays ride. Same route, same distance, same bike set-up. With yesterdays gusting winds 18.35 mph average. Today 23.15 mph average with hardly any wind at all. Three flag poles that I pass on my route were hanging for a change vs fully extending. It felt EFFORT LESS!!! Hope the winds are like this come May 21st, I think we will all benefit tremendously. |

Rode the course today (less the Woodlands parkway) - 94 miles on the odemeter. Winds were from the SSE and seemed to be head on all way from the left turn off 149 all the way to dobbins, it was a grind and felt so good the first 45 miles - good news is it can't be much worse on race day! Regular 240 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas Bottle handups every 10 miles on the bike for IMTX. Anyone have any experience with this? Does it get crowded and do you have to slow way down, or even maybe jump off your bike if needed? Just trying to work out hydration strategy, less bottles, more bottles. I would just hate to miss a handup and then be out of fluid for the next ten miles. I have seen some handups before in HIMS but never dipped in, I had enough to cover the distance on my own. But a Full IM is a different story.

Rode 117 today (the course plus a little) and it was calm pretty much to Richards and then the bottom fell out! Sufferfest the rest of the way. I think I learned today that its the gusty winds that ruin me as it messes up your rhythm so much. Give me heat any day over today. Ugh. All the uber long rides done though, so at least I got that going for me! Now it's time for the nerves to really set in.

Bottle handups usually work great. I've done 3 HIM and 1 IM and bikers are usually spread out...Plus, the volunteers are usually good about spreading themselves out. You really shouldn't be crowded, although the first 1-2 stops can be a little crowded. Typically you just slow down and snag the bottle. It is best to point and call out who you are grabbing the bottle from...this lets the volunteer and other bikers around you know where you are going. If you are passing through and not grabbing anything, it's best to stay clear and to the left of the station. You shouldn't have to jump down and grab a bottle, unless you miss the hand up from the last person. Personally, I try to get my bottles from one of the first few volunteers so that if I do miss the handup and it falls I can get one more towards the end. Also, if you miss the handup and it falls, don't panic or stop and try to get it...that can lead to an accident. Also, it helps to call out what you want...if you want water/gatorade/gel/bars/etc., yell it out so the volunteers know and can get you their nutrition. I usually ask them to unscrew water bottle caps so that i can pour it into my aero mounted drink system easier. All the volunteers I've had experiences with have been great at trying to get you the nutrition you want. |

no, but I will have a thermometer. I bet the cool temps the last 2 days kept the temp from getting out of control though |

Pro 4174 Keller, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas So, on my long ride yesterday my car was broken into and my wallet stolen along with all my credit cards, USAT card and drivers license. If I remember right, when we moved to Texas 6 years ago when you apply for a new license, you get a paper copy and it could be several weeks before your permanent photo license comes in the mail. So it has me concerned about registration. If I do not get my real license by then, do you think I could use my paper copy and a passport as proof of ID? Just add this to one more thing I need to worry about. Why are there a$$es in the world? These idiots were obviously casing out the parking lot and when we left the car after refilling they had to have broken in. We started out again at 2 and they attempted to use my credit card at a gas station at 2:20. Now my day is full of replacing my shattered car window and replacing credit cards. |
