Is this group sticking together?  I think I heard some where changing.  I think it is weird they change at the start of the year...Oh well.

Did a hard bike...leg was fine...then later feels weird.  Not painful, just gritty.  Hope to hell I haven't torn the meniscus...I will know when it locks up, that is for sure.

Uh oh gritty doesn't sound good. Lots of RICE and I hope it's not the meniscus.

I think they change things out in April.  A mentor in another group just mentioned he was moving on but going to check in once in a while.  Sounded like that time had come.

I hate the constant changing.  No need for it I can see.  About the time people get to know each other they are spread to the 4 winds again.  I'd just as soon stay.

Icing the damn knee again.  Not really painful...hard to describe. I think it could be on the verge of a breakdown, dunno. Not pushing the run until I see whats what.

Scott - You know as well as anyone that rest can do wonders when you start to feel an injury coming on.  3-5 days off is better than months of rehab.

Notice: What follows is just venting. Nothing of substance is contained in the following paragraph.

So the stars aligned against me last night as far as working out goes. I was supposed to swim as soon as the wife got off work then bike of the trainer for an hour. About an hour before she gets off work, she calls and says our realtor has an offer for us and is coming over at 8:30. There goes my swim. Meet with the realtor, give her a counter offer, she says she's going back to the office to call the lady cause they were wanting a reply ASAP. Wife takes the boys to the store so I can ride. I'm 25mins into my ride and the realtor calls with a counter to our counter. She had called my wife but she is notoriously bad about "not feeling" her phone ring. Anyway, had to get off the bike and deal with all that but the good news is we sold our house finally just wish I could have finished my workout.

I know we all have days like this where you plan everything out for your workout and it just doesn't happen. Very frustrating. Only triathletes are more upset than happy that selling their house caused them to miss a workout. More evidence that we have a screw loose.

Tim, that is great swim.  I don't think I could do that right now, been out of the pool for about 3 weeks or so.  swim safe http://www.triaids.com/SwimSafe.htm if the flotation device.   If your only planning on being on the bike for 1.5 hours you better be Lance armstrong in hiding. lol  You will do just fine, once it warms up.

Jason, you didn't like my red spandex photo??? LOL Nice to have you back.

KC, get some sleep and hit it hard this week.

Scott, that would stink if its something torn.  I hope its just inflamed.

Keith you hit it on the head a little rest is much easier than weeks/months of recovery.  Way to go in your Tri! Key is you are the only one who stepped up to race so great job.

Caleb that is too funny, I think I might be happy to sell a house in this market. You can always do a double this weekend. :-)

Congrats on the sale!

My wife is the same way, I am always wondering why she even carries a phone with her as she never answers/hears it.

I know the mentor groups close the end of March/1st of April, so I will leave it upto you guys  on how to handle it.   I can keep this group going (maybe add a couple people) or just shut it down.  If you guys don't want to continue I won't be doing another group, like you I would like to see all of you through your 1st tri/1st HIM/or 1stIM or your A race for the year.  Either way I hope we all stay in touch as you have been a great group of people and triathletes!

Hey Team.

I had no idea that things shut down on the groups. I would like to keep this going if possible but I guess it is up to our Coach. I have to be honest, I like this and would like to stick with it for a while if everyone else does. I mean seriously, who the hell else wants to hear about my crappy swimming LOL. On a serious note, I do appreciate this group's encouragement and since I have whined so much about my swimming I sure would like to share my success with all of you when it happens.

Please just let me know what is going on and I guess I will figure it out one way or another.

Hey Team.

IceMan - I hope your knee is ok - just make sure of it.

Keith - your a winner no matter how many people sign up. Where is the race? Maybe I can sign up so you can take 1st and I can get the silver LOL.

Caleb, don't worry you will figure it out and make up the workout and your are right, we/this is nuts but I love it so far.

Coach - if you want to keep it going, a couple of more people for the ones who quit early would be cool.

Even though I have a rough go at it lately,  I would like us to stay together.  I have learned so much from each of you and I know that it will help me during my first tri.

On a side note, I am back to running outside.  Seems my back is holding up good so I am going to be adding the bike tomorrow.

As for past posts, let me just say great swims, ride, runs for everyone and one really bad photo!

It sounds like most want to stay, so when the new ones start I will for a new group and hold spots for all of you and allow a few new people in. That way there is some new people to bounce ideas off of. We could always do the archive but could not get any new members that way. What do you think a good number of new people would be? I was thinking 5-7 because im sure 1/3 will drop out or be inactive. That would leave us with around 10ish. Any ideas or thoughts?

That sounds perfect Coach - will you let us know when this is going to happen?

Court - nice to see you active and building your strength again.

Off to the pool for me tonight after a decent run this afternoon.

Have a great night everyone and thanks Coach.

EDIT/ADDITION

Back from the pool and now off to bed. I hope everyone had a great day.

My wife and I just signed up for our 1st tri of the season, Miami university in Oxford has a great tri that does the swim indoors then bike/run outside.  We signed up last year but it was about 30deg so all but 1 of our group skipped it.   This is going to be interesting, have not swam in a while, have not rode my bike since IMKY (august last year) and have done zero speed work in running.. Since its a sprint I will be redlining the entire time so if I collapse it was nice knowing you all (BTW its a hilly a$$ course)!! lol

Good Morning Team.

Coach - here is my swim update - I am still trying - that is all I really have to say on the subject. This week I managed to fit in Tuesday, Wednesday and will go again tonight. I will miss Friday because I have an athletic awards dinner to attend. I coach the college golf team and I am the assistant curling coach as well and this is our annual year ending party for all the teams here at the college.

I will hopefully get some pool time in this weekend as well.

Have a great day everyone.

i have a question.  i just bought my bike in dec and started riding in dec.  i have done 80% on trainer and i get tired legs and sweat like a pig- so i believe it is  a good workout.  i have been told by my LBS that trainer rides are really good because you dont have any downhills.  for me, when i ride outside my legs are screaming and my legs stay sore for two days.  the outside rides are much, much harder and the bricks after outside are much harder.  is this how you are supposed to feel.  maybe because i ride outside with more experienced, faster riders that i push harder.  another thing is that on a trainer when my heart rate gets to 150+ i am struggling.  outside i can climb a hill and look at HR and it is 160+ but does not feel as bad as when it is at 150 on a trainer.

i am just a little down about it because i have put in many more hours on trainer thinking that it was good enough but now that i am about one month out i really dont feel ready for the bike.

Jason, Your LBS is correct to a point.  The problem is that unless you set a specific workout and push to a certain level most (including me) fall into the trap of just riding instead of training.  I'm not saying riding is bad it just won't help you improve your speed.  Plus you hit part of it as you ride with faster people you will push harder to keep up, the other thing is yes its true you don't have any downhill but you also don't have uphills which tend to burn your legs up quickly.

I wouldn't worry about it if you did good solid workouts on the trainer you will be just fine.  This is the number one reason for a power meter as you know exactly how hard you are pushing.

What type of workouts did you do on the trainer? any interval/power/high cadence drills?
