Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mcox06 - 2010-05-06 7:21 AM So i normally have a hr 42-44 upon waking in the morning but today it was 52. I am very sore in the legs from my swim and bike ride yesterday. I want to go run like the schedule says but I've had minor overtraining in the past and everything is setting up the same...or is it just my mind? I have exams starting this weekend and this is the exact same scenario last time it started along with the elevated hr. I'm taking today off just as precaution. Do you think this is correct or am I just psyching myself out? I think it is the right thing to do! |

![]() | ![]() So I got hydrated and did some foam roller concentrating on my legs and shoulders. Relaxed and watched some tv. Took my hr again and it was back down to 44. I will probably go for a run now but will make it a easy slow pace so it is more recovery than a workout. I was more concerned with my elevated hr than the soreness in my legs as I'm accustomed to that. But I am monitoring everything more closely now and will take it easy the rest of this week till exams are over. |

![]() | ![]() Recovery! Just read a very cool topic that combined the recommended contraction showers with the foam roller. Just take a 2 liter bottle and fill it with water and put in freezer. Next day use it to roll out the legs after a hard leg workout! You can also fill a different bottle with hot water and roll out before your hard exercise to get blood flowing to the muscles. I can't wait to give this a try. Giving credit to the author the link below has video and science behind all this. http://synergy-athletics.com/ |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have "custody" of the dog this weekend since my ex is out of town, which has limited training a bit, but tomorrow we're gonna do a short brick. She'll only be doing the run leg. In the meantime I'm thinking about getting one of the water bottles that fits between the aerobars because mostly when I try and reach down to get the water bottle on the seat tube....well I can get it generally OK....putting it back gets dicey. I try and practice.... The aerobar bottles also hold more volume, which would be nicer for the longer races (2 HIM this summer). People use those during races, right? Do you need the brackets as well? Edited by Aneides 2010-05-08 8:16 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() se7930 - 2010-05-10 10:43 AM I wanted to ask some questions about nutrition and specifically supplements to my daily food intake. I try to stick with the "if it walks, swims or grows in the ground" it's safe to eat diet. I don't watch my calorie intake either, but I do know when I need to eat more - during rigorous weeks. The only thing I do differently than you is that I don't eat anything after 8:30-9:00. If I'm hungry before I go to bed, I chug a big glass of water, it's gives me the feeling of being full without the extra calories right before I lie down to sleep. Of course there are times when I deviate completely from this plan - like this weekend for instance. Too much beer and picnic food, but this week I'll be back to a healthy diet. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone racing this weekend? if so, give us some details (name of race, distance, goal for completing, etc..) I have the following TexasMan Sprint Triathlon .5 mile OWS, 16.1 Bike, and 3.1 run I would like to finish around the 1:40 mark This is my first wetsuit race so I have been working on getting out of the wetsuit quickly One area of focus for this race is picking up on my bike pace. My first race I averaged only 16.2 so I am shooting for 17+ on this one Weather forecast here is calling for rain all weekend, that should make it more fun! Hopefully no T-storms and lightning |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The weather turned for the better on Saturday and this morning was just glorious! low in the high 60's, no wind, and a beautiful sunrise to watch as we waited for our turn in the Sprint race wave. As for the goals I had for myself in the previous post about this weekends race I didnt realize they were going to have people stationed at the Swim Out to assist with the removal of wetsuits. That sure did help. I had my arms out and the wetsuit pulled down to my waste when I got to them, so it was a quick drop to the ground 2 people grabbed my wetsuit and yank, it was off. Thank goodness I had my tri shorts tied up tight!! LOL My personal time goal was 1:40 and I finished in 1:36:07 which put me 13th in my age group. The other goal I had was to work on my bike time. My last race I only averaged 16.2 MPH which I felt was very slow and that I left alot of time on the coarse. This race I averaged 18.9, and I feel like I pushed as hard as I could and still have something left for the run which I set a new PR for a 5K at 26:11. Not the fastest, but both the bike and run times are PR for me which tells me the training is paying off |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question about bike training on an exercise bike ... If I have a day that list a bike workout with 10 min on the small ring, then 40 on the big ring then 10 on the small ring, what resistance settings shuold I use on the exercise bike? Is it just a "feel" thing, or is resistance 1-3 considered low ring and 4-10 big ring? I dont have a trainer at home yet, so on days when I need to ride and cant get outside to do it, i would still like to do the work, just use the exercise bike instead |

I would suggest that you just use light resistance on the spin bike, stay light on the pedals and spin.Question about bike training on an exercise bike ... Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone, I've been on a hiatus for a few days here and in training. I missed the Santa Monica Classic on Sunday due to having too much fun on Saturday night, not good. I did however make it to the gym on Saturday afternoon for an hour and a half. I'm not sure if I mentioned this on here or not already but I'm in the market for a new bike. The one I had all year was a borrowed bike from a buddy, who no longer is into tri's, but I had to give it back about 2 weeks ago now. I've been looking at Felt's b12 and b14 and wondering if the $500 price increase for the b12 is worth it. I've done the math and you get a deal for paying the extra cash because the component upgrade is greater than $500 but is someone who isn't a pro going to notice those upgrades? Any thoughts? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question about training and nutrition on long rides/runs. At what point should I start taking supplemental gels with me on my long training sessions. 1.5 hours or longer, 2 hours or longer? I have heard people say if the race is 2 hours or less your fine with sports drinks and water, but anything over 2 hours and you need to be thinking about gels and other supplements. Does the same hold true for training? thanks |

Each individual will have different requirements. Your training is not just about the physical aspect of the race. You should be practicing different things with your nutrition to help you find what your body needs. Use the guide you suggeseted as a starting point and make the necessary adjustments as you continue to learn what your body needs. At what point should I start taking supplemental gels with me on my long training sessions. 1.5 hours or longer, 2 hours or longer?
