Veteran 221 | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Well I know I'll hit 100% for the run and about 85% sure that I will hit it for the swim. But the bike is going to be tough for the simple reason that next week I am going Chicago for 5 days. But I'll get as many miles as I can in. |

Veteran 118 Roseville, California | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Sorry that I haven't been pulling my weight this week. The d%*nm cut I got on my foot last weekend at my race has kept me out of training. It's starting to heal, so I should be back in saddle by this weekend. No worries. I can make-up for lost time. Team Endless Summer will be victorious! |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge We're in the lead? I can't open xls files, but I'll take your word for it. Way to go, team! Before we get too cocky, I need a swim ass-kicking. Ididn't go today because I didn't feel like it. Not good. The positive side is that I'm doing the Tour de Paris (Texas) this weekend so my bike time really isn't a problem. How are you all doing? |

Elite Veteran 1817 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Hi Team! Checking in with my percentages: Swim - 36% - I missed Monday, so that pushed me back, but I made up 1000 of the lost 1500 on Wednesday and will make up the rest tomorrow morning. I AM going to get 100% on the swim, no excuses. Captain Lynda, get your butt out swimming, if I can get up at 4:15 am to swim, so can you! Do it! Do it! Bike - 25% - this is low because all my miles will happen on RAGBRAI, I only need a total of 200 prior to that and I'm at 178 with rides scheduled on Sunday and Wednesday, plus any commuting I do, so it's pretty much a lock. Captain Lynda, will you please make sure that Renee knows I will not be able to update my totals until Monday, August 1st when I get back in the office? Run - 70% - This is my low priority activity for the month, that's why I only set it at 20 miles total. I've done 14 so far, and I have a 5K RR on Saturday, which will put me at 17. I'm sure I can eke out another three sometime next week, so no worries there, I'm good for 100%. I hope we have a running challenge in August, I really need to put some focus on this area to get me ready for my fall RR's, this is when some of my favorites happen and I'm looking for PR's! Anybody know if the Renee updated the spreadsheet yet? Are we still in the lead?? We rule, regardless! |

Veteran 293 The Emerald City | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Ok, I’m behind the curve so I will make a declaration. If I say it, I will do it.
Swim- need to complete 10,400 more yards. I will swim 6 days at 1,750 each. Bike- need to complete 121 more miles. I will ride 6 days at 21 miles each. Run-need to complete 16.25 more miles. I will run 6 days at 3 miles each. When I complete the above I will have reached my July Challenge goals. |

Master 1315 Shreveport, LA | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Going in at 8:30 in the morning to get all 4 wisdom teeth out. I thought about going swimming in the morning, but I can't drink anything after midnight, so hydration might be a problem. I plan on not doing any running, biking, or swimming until next Thursday or Friday. If I recover quickly, I might do some easy swimming or biking Wednesday, but I want to make sure I am well before I start back. My last race of the season is Aug 7th, so I want to get back quickly, but not too fast that the training would not be beneficial. I wish I had done this in HS or college, but oh well. Better now than later. My dentist told me that they needed to be taken out soon. We are having our first child (a baby girl) at the end of September, so my wife wanted to do it before we had the baby and before she got too big. Anyway, keep up the good training. I am at 80% of the run, 61% on the swim, and 50% on the bike. Unless I recover slowly, I should reach or exceed 100% in all three categories. Good training and racing to everyone this weekend. |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Okay, I got a run and a swim in today. I figured that if Tania can get up at 4:15 to get a workout in, the least I could do was stroll over to my pool when it opened at 11 AM for lap swimming! Looking at my goals, I'm going to need each and every day of July to get to 100% for the swim and run. But I'll get there, that is kinda the point of the goal. The bike will be different since I just decided to do the Tour de Paris. I plan on riding 62 miles which is my longest distance, ever. Someday I'd love to do RAGBRAI. Until then, these tours of opportunity will have to do. Mike, good luck with your wisdom teeth. Remember to ice, and if you can sleep sitting up, or at least with your head elevated, that should help, too. And this may be just me, but I started feeling better after I quit taking the prescription pain meds. Regardless, I hope your surgery goes very smoothly and that your recovery is a breeze. Good job on your work so far. Hoff, have a good trip, and remember, you can count stationary bike miles this month, IIRC. Or you could just steal a bike and helmet. Or you could visit local bike shops pretending to be interested in purchasing a bike and just take a 1/2 to 1 hour test ride each evening. You'd probably want to visit different bike shops if you use the last suggestion. |

Master 1315 Shreveport, LA | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Surgery went well. Stayed awake through it. At home now and not feeling "loopy". I will continue to rest over the weekend and hopefully get back into the swing of things by mid-week. Just watching the TdF and the British Open. Probably go tomorrow and pick up my copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend and keep up the good training. |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Anybody else biting their fingernails over Sooper's race this morning? Hope it went well, Soopergirl! With respect to the #s, I'm not terribly interested in a stage win. We're all about hitting our goals on July 31st, and having fun while getting there. Vapor, let us know if you need to apply for an injury waiver. And for those of you behind on your cycling, click around and see if an organized tour will take place in your neck of the woods. I'm becoming a huge fan of these bike tours. For those unfamiliar, they aren't even remotely races, they are organized bike rides with rest stops every X number of miles, and sag wagon support. They are a very enjoyable way to get the bike miles in. Mike, glad the surgery went well. How is your recovery coming along? Have a great week, team! Edited to wish hoff a great race tomorrow. Just don't embarrass us with that 6 min/mile pace anymore. Get out there and really run this time! Edited by lynda 2005-07-17 2:19 PM |

Lake Mary Florida | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Hey Team, Well I lived! I posted a race report but I can not figure out how to put the link here in this thread. Anyway I had fun. I learned things too. 1) I need to try swimming fast. I just swim at a comfortable pace and never try to put effort into it. I should try that. (Weird but it never occured to me to try that) 2) I need much much more time on the bike. I am very very uncomfortable with my bike. It was a wet and off and on rainy day. I was very nervous on any little hill and corner. I have never cycled in the rain. I have never cycled with people around. I was really uncomfortable with that part of the race. 3) I love running! The tri was fun but I am a runner at heart I think. I had fun doing this tri (well ok except for the bike). I may do another in a couple of weeks too. It is on a course where I run all the time. I love it there. Anyway I figured I may do it if it is a nicer day (sign up race morning). Then I could be more comfortable on the bike and put my lessons to the test. I hope everyone had a good weekend! Sarah |

Veteran 118 Roseville, California | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Sarah, Congrats on a successful triathlon! Don't let lack of comfort on the bike dissuade you're enthusiasm for future events. The fact you did so well in wet conditions is awesome--anyone should feel a little nervous when riding on wet roads. The more time you spend on the bike, the more comfortable you'll feel. Guaranteed. Congrats again! I'm off to read your race report... Paul Edited by Vapor Trail 2005-07-18 8:27 AM |

Elite Veteran 1817 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge That was a really good race, soopergirl! I hope you won't give up on tri's just because of the bike! You just have to spend more time riding, there's no shortcut to that, for sure. I think you did an awesome job - for your first one??? You have a LOT of potential for this sport! |

Veteran 221 | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Alright. Tongiht I can get back into training. I have a 4K race. I should be able to get in 10 miles tonight. Not sure if I am going to race it hard or not. I'm thinking I might since I haven't done anything for 3 days. But I feel so recovered. So what have a I missed since I have been gone. These next three days are going to be long. Gotta get lots of mileage in. Most of it will be on the bike though. What happened with the mini-challenege? I went 3 for 4 on the morning swims. |

Elite Veteran 1817 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Glad you've recovered nicely and are back with us, hoff. When last you left us, Team Endless Summer was leading the challenge, because we ROCK! Looking forward to the next update, but Renee is off doing actual work to earn a new bike her boss promised her as an incentive, so there's no telling when she'll have time to update the sheet again. I wouldn't if I was her!! We're probably still winning, anyway! As for the mini challenge - we do need a sound off on that from the other players. I have 5 of a possible 8 points total. Since I missed my swim workout last Friday due to laziness, I did not give myself a point for that day even though I have made up the missed yardage for the big challenge on subsequent swims. Since I have no intention of missing my remaining swim workouts before I leave for RAGBRAI on Saturday (I even swam in the RAIN today - at 5:00 am - I should get extra points for that!) I'm on target to get 7 of a possible 8 points total. Everyone else??? |

Veteran 293 The Emerald City | Subject: RE: Team Endless Summer--July Challenge Mini challenge is still on. I have 3 out of 4 possible points for early morning swim. I plan on early morning swim on Wed to complete my early morning swim goal. I am am on track overall for swimming and running, but I have to dig deep to get the bike milage up. I am going for a ride afterwork today. Not a cloud in the sky, so it should stay light for a long while this evening. |
