Hello Everyone,

Just mailed the contract for a house rental on Lake Winnipesaukee.  Used this website for the booking:  http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rentals/new-hampshire/lake-winnipesaukee-area/r5662

There are still plenty to choose from if anyone is interested.

Tony - welcome to the group!  we've got plenty of time between now and August

jtrezza - cool and glad to hear you'll be up there.  i am bringing family w 2 boys (11 and 9) for a week - Aug 20 - 27.  What dates are you staying?

I found this place http://www.summitresortnh.com/ - which is closeby to race - 2 BR condos, indoor/outdoor pool (which was important to us w the boys) and reasonably priced (certainly by NJ standards.)

Hey, I'm only doing the sprint this year and planning the HIM 2011 (I'm doing Pumpkinman in Maine a my first this year), but I'm enjoying reading the comments for Timberman.  Hopefully you guys don't mind me writing in even though I'm a pretender!

I may volunteer for the half, so maybe I'll be stripping wetsuits or something.  We have a tiny summer cottage on one of the islands - I wish it was big enough to offer some housing to a few of you.  Anywhere you stay will be great.  Good luck to all.

Warren, Warren, Warren...you are not JUST doing the sprint.  Don't diminish what you are doing.  Dude, you are going to bring the friggin' lumber to the sprint!

Happy to have you along for the ride.  I hope to volunteer at the sprint.

Keep it on!

Peace,
~Sam

C'mon Warren, none of this "only" stuff ... you're gonna be out there, pushing yourself! That's what counts !!!

Hope to connect w you in NH, I am really looking forward to a nice vacation, oh, and a good race, too.

I got back in the pool to loosen up last week and this week started my 20 week HIM plan for the Rev3 HIM in CT in early June.  I swam yesterday and only had the energy for the warm-up and cool down, so I guess I'm about 1500 yds shy of one complete swim workout - ouch!  At least I have kept up my running this offseason (what offseason?) so I'm in a better place there.

Heading back to the pool today, everything will come back I'm sure.  I'm going to be working on swim stroke and speed, I need to drop my swim time for the 1.2 down from 45 mins to something more respectable lol.

Warren, glad to have you on board, the sprint is awesome, you're gonna love it!  I did the same plan that you're looking at: sprint the first year then stepping up to the HIM the following year.  It helps that Timberman is such an awesome race/event.

I decided I'm gonna run Boston this year.  I had already been training with a friend who's gearing up for the mary so my run miles are pretty high to begin with (low 40's right now), I'm just a little worried about my bike training during all of this.  I'll still be doing my weekly class at FastSplits, and a long bike on Saturday's, but the other days might have to be cut out to keep the run focus going.

First mary and first HIM in one year, can't WAIT!

Ok...First mary. How did you get into Boston then?

Or should I not ask?

You can ask but I'm guessing you already know the answer  .  As a slight justification I've gone every year since I was a little kid, cheering for everyone who's run by regardless of whether they're wearing a bib.  And I've volunteered a few times as well, gladly handing out cups to anyone on the course.   I do feel bad for the organizers, it's a tough position to be in, but personally I'd like to see them open it up more to people who are willing to pay their way in, then 'enforce' things for the first mile, I think that would take care of a pretty good chunk of the thousands who run bandit every year.  I don't own a credit card and probably never will, so the charity route isn't a possibility.  Having lived in Boston my whole life I've talked to dozens of people who have run bandit, some on multiple occasions, so I guess over time I've lost any bad feeling I've had about doing it that way.

I guess that's every excuse I can come up with...flame away if you want

No flame. I know of many who do that. It's a Boston tradition that will last forever. Just like Massachusetts will always be a blue state.

Hi everyone.  I wondered if anyone had a count on how many have signed up and how many they will be taking.  I did this race 2 years ago and loved it.  Unfortunately, this past summer I broke my hip training for my first IM.  I was just cleared to start running and I really would like to try this race again this summer.  I also want to test out the hip for as long as I can before I commit.
Thanks!

Mike,
I have not seen a counter as you have described.
By the way is your hip related to your cycling form?
I hope everything works out for you.  Good luck!
Peace,
~Sam

I'm not sure what you mean by "related to".  I broke my hip in a cycling accident in the summer and had three screws put in it.  This past week was another x-ray to make sure all is healing well and I was given the clearance to begin running again.  I'm just not sure that I can get back into 100% yet.

There was supposed to be some humor in there somewhere as a result of the photo you have of yourself on your bike with your legs spread way out.

Here's a link to the entrant list. Dunno what the limit is, but it may be posted on the website.

jk

I am also heading up with my family (2 girls 8 & 11).  My husband is actually doing the race with me, so I know someone will be there to collect my remains!  The current plan is to head up to the race site Fri 8/20 and stay at the Hampton Inn.  On Saturday, we'll check-in, rack our gear and head on over to the rental house.  If my sister takes the bait and joins us, she will watch the kids on race morning.  This has been a bit of a hard sell so far, since our lake house came with a disclaimer: "no sheet rock, no air-conditioning and small animals are a regular occurrence."  Otherwise, we'll register the girls for the race-day kids camp at Gunstock (assuming they offer it this year).

Now that the arrangements are in place, I need to get my rear moving.  I have been doing more skiing than SBR.  I registered for the MORE half-marathon in April and the Navesink 1.2 mi swim in May.  Time to get serious!

Jackie

WOW!  Less than 200 days until race day!  Where is the time going?  Is everybody having a productive winter training?

August is just right around the corner lol.

I registered for a June HIM (Rev3 Quassy in CT) so I've started a 20 wk plan which is going well. I kept up w running over the off season so I feel good there.

Took a few mos. off from bike and swim but easing back into those have been ok - bought a bike trainer for the basement.

Swim is coming along but need to make improvements in stroke & such so I can get a better time then 45 mins (too slow IMO).  My goal is between 36 and 40 mins coming out of the water; I'd be pleased with that.

Been doing lots of running and trying to get as much riding in on the trainer as I can. Thank God for Netflix!

I'm getting there.  With the holidays way behind me, I have settled into more focused workouts.  My training plan doesn't officially start until April.  I need to slowly build my base volume so I'll be ready in the Spring.  Good luck to everyone.
