Testing my new heart rate monitor on the run today. Hope everyone had a great day yesterday and can have a productive weekend. I too got a new Heart rate mon. Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED The best feature I found is the auto lapping every mile. Have you figured that out yet? There is also auto pausing, which works really well on the bike when you get to stop signs and stop lights. Let us know how it goes. |

Extreme Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Wow. I'm jealous of everyone's new toys! I want a Garmin someday! Anyway, I am excited because I went to the eye doc today and he gave me a prescription for disposable contacts to use only for swimming. I know that sounds like a cheesy thing to be excited about, but I have had so much eye irritation since I started swimming. He said my contacts just absorbed the chlorine and then released it all day long on my eye. Yay! Major problem solved for me. I've still got company until Monday, so my spare time is few and far between. I'm sneaking this time right now |

Tech4o is the brand. does just about everything. HR, calorie burn, chrono, lap counter, pedo, exercise history. only thing i don't like about it is no auto download to the computer, but since it was a gift, i won't complain too loud. If it were me I wouldn't run at least 2 days prior to give my body the rest it needs and to be ready to go race day. I am sure others will have other ideas. I'll be routin' for ya on Thursday! |

How much of your $200 get whatever you want card will these use up? Seren, you said these don't bother your contacts at all? I'm spending some serious $$ on disposables, so it might make better financial sense to buy goggles instead. I should have posted before I just dropped $50 on a 60 day supply. Sigh... oh well. At least I won't have to next time. |

Extreme Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED fdaniele - 2009-12-28 3:36 PM Dear All, I am thinking about getting some proper runnings shoes, and dont want to spend a ton, any advice? Thanks. FFD Take my advice with a grain of salt, but when it comes to being cheap I've usually got you covered. I couldn't afford a "proper" pair, so I just spent almost two hours trying on running shoes at a local discount sporting goods store. I mostly paid attention to whether they rolled my ankles in or out, (don't know the technical term), how my arches felt (I'm pretty flat footed) and etc. I ended up with a $28 pr of New Balance. Later I bought a more expensive pair of Nikes and they bugged me, so I'm back in them. It works for now until I can get a better pair. When it comes to a "proper' pair, I'm no help. Sorry! |

Expert 819 In the Shadow of the Big House | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED "Proper" really does mean fit more than anything in my opinion. I know a guy who runs on converse high tops. The shoes that the so called experts told me I was supposed to wear ended up giving me no end of grief. I went back to a cheaper pair that I was comfortable with until I found my Five-fingers (the cheapest of the lot). Now I wear those inside and my old stand-bys outside in the cold and wet. Don't buy into the hype that the more expensive the shoe, the better it is for your feet. Run in what feels good to you. I know a lot of people who swear by certain brands, and I think that some brands cater to a certain foot type more than others for example I really like Asics, can't wear Nike. Others swear by Brooks or New Balance. Again, try on lots of shoes before you buy. Hope this helps.... |
