Good morning!  Good to see some people making it back to the board after the Holiday festivities!

At work today, so hoping to squeeze in an hour of uninterrupted training time.

finally got my lazy azz out of bed to the gym this morning!  I have gotten over 30 hrs of sleep the last 3 nights combined, so I hope that is helping me!  It is nice sleeping so much, but lame because I don't get to do much aside from work all day Tongue out

My plan is to ski this weekend, and then start off next week with running again, hopefully by beg. of feb i'll be back up to 40ish mpw.

I am travelling to Las Vegas Friday/Saturday for business, so I am trying to get my workouts in today/tomorrow a.m. because I know once I get there, all bets are off as far as getting a run in.....

I highly considered getting up this morning at 5:30 to get to a spin class by 6am. . instead, i just went back to sleep   I'd like to get a run in tonight.  It is pouring outside, so hopefully it stops - more importantly, I hope its cold enough in the mtns to be dumping snow!

anything big on tap for the weekend ?

It's Friday finally!  I'm heading off to the gym to hopefully get some swimming in after work and maybe some core work as well.

This weekend has lots packed into it, the usual snowboarding, some broomball, maybe some swimming.  Hopefully out west you're getting more snow than us!  We haven't had much in awhile and likely won't get more until the end of next week.

Have a good wekend everybody!

Had a great workoout today! the swim was good and the treadmill run was good!

No big plans this weekend. Girlfriend is sick.
You guys out west make it sound so fun with all the skiing and snowboarding etc. We got 2 inches yesterday and they canceled all the schools....before they even got the snow!!!! ha ha!!
The snow is especially problematic since most of us don't wear shoes here in Kentucky.
Just kidding!!! Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hey y'all!
I need your help!  I am looking for some more swim workout ideas.  If you have some free time, would you be willing to PM me (at least) one of your favorite swim workouts?  Preferrably ones that last about an hour, maybe 1.5hr.  I would really like to compile a list of plans that I can choose from.

As for my weekend, I have a 30min tempo run and a 6 mile run planned.  May even make it to the pool one of those days too, but the run is planned for sure!

Got a nice, easy 6.5 mile run in today.  The run was successful in terms of rehabilitation, no gluteal numbness-paresthesia and no referred pain.  Recovery will be slow, but promising so far.  Planning on shortening runs and eliminating speedwork for the time being.

Food for thought: don't neglect stretching and remember to work those supporting muscles that we don't normally use in biking and running!

Looking for advice. Doing a HIM in April. Looking at a prep race 3 weeks prior. Trying to decide if i should do the Sprint or Olympic distance. Thoughts?

3 weeks out, you should be fine with either.   I would say it takes 1 day of recovery for a sprint and 2 to 3 to recover for an OLY, assuming you have been doing the necessary volume for a HIM.  does your plan have you doing a 2 week taper or a 3 week taper?

Still new to some of this but if i read it correctly. The plan is a three week taper. Thinking Oly.

I don't see a problem with either distance, especially since you will be heading into your taper period.  It really comes down to personal preference as to whether you choose sprint or olympic distance.

I vote for the OLY because it will more closely mimic the HIM. Agree with the others. Few days off and into the taper ...you'll be good to go.   I can't we till we start racing!!!

To me, an OLY much more closely mimic's a sprint.  Even though the distance is twice that of a sprint, and OLY is much more similar in time to a sprint then to a HIM.

I have found Half's to be challenging, mostly because of the total elapsed time.  More so, because I don't really like to bike over 40-50 miles, so the bike always seems so long.  It is crazy, biking used to be my strength, when I started doing tri's - but now, i place better in the swim and run then i do in the bike!  I mostly just have not put in the miles maybe that will change in 2010!

I got a swim in today, but this cold took more out of me than I thought.  WU and intervals started well, but I started to get worn out quicker than normal.  Cut it short, had lunch, now I'm sitting on the couch.  I was planning on riding the trainer later, but that is pretty much out the window now.  Hopefully, get a good MTB ride in tomorrow.

Had a sweet little ride today.  Sorry bout not getting back to you about meeting up today Mike, but I was too hung over to really spend time with anyone today.  Definitely had to go at my own pace throughout the workout

Well,

I got my registrations done today (thank you gambling winnings in Vegas this weekend, as I made enough money to cover all of the events), so here's the lineup:

June 20th- Boulder 5430 sprint
July 11th-  Boulder Peak Oly
Aug 8th-    IM 70.3 Boulder
Sept 19th- Crescent Moon sprint
Nov. 21st- IMAZ

Now to just find a few 5k/10k races to fill in some of the holes until June and maybe one or two in October to stay sharp....

Florida training weekend went OK. Long run Saturday was done on the treadmill due to rainy and 35 degrees outside. Biked my 3:30 training ride outside on Sunday but even with the sun it started out very cold.
I need to push myself to get registered as well for a few more races.
Set for Rage in the Sage in April in Vegas. But need to get signed up for that prep race in March.
Looking at doing the Lake Stevens 70.3. Not yet sure about filling in the rest of the season.
Looking to do some bike racing as well. Anyone know of some TT races in Southern Cal?

Wow - you must have came out pretty well in Vegas! I was proud of myself when I went, because I only lost about $100 total all weekend!  I was down about $300-$350 at one point.

Evan - I was hungover too, and 6 miles probably would have been too far for my knee right now anyways

Bryan - Lake steven's 70.3 is a great race!  very pretty course, but fairly hilly on the bike.  mostly up and down, with a lot of curves too, so it is fun.

There is absolutely no question that  an oly is more similar to a sprint than a HIM. However, an oly is more like a HIM than a sprint??? I just figured the longer race would be more beneficial.

I came out about $420 up from Friday night in Vegas, and the events other than IMAZ totaled $412, so yeah it was pretty nice.  I got a little under 5 miles in today at lunch on the treadmill in about 46 minutes, so it was nice to get back after it.  Now I will see if I can squeeze a swim in this evening.

Lance heck yea. If I send you some $ can you win some for me? The horses don't race in Lexington until april, so no chance at big winnings till then...oh yea nice workout too!
