Landed in the dirt on the side of the road so nothing broken and very little road rash, but I did strain my neck pretty good which has meant no S/B/R at all this week. Doc has me on muscle relaxers and my coach says not to worry but it's a bummer to have my momentum thrown off just as I was getting back in a groove. Be safe out there everyone! Glad you are okay! |

Master 2404 Redlands, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm starting my long stuff on Saturday with a 72 mile ride, since I tend to 'break' at 25 mpw on the run, I'm staying there all this month, then pumping up the long runs. Training is going better than it has in years and with the exception of swimming I'm right where I should be. |

Extreme Veteran 610 San Francisco CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread So I had booked a vacation condo at Dorsey Place for me, my husband and my parents for Thurs - Mon for IMAZ and I just got an email from the management company saying that Dorsey Place has been sold and that the new owners would not be operating the vacation rental program so they are canceling my reservation. Arg! Anyone know of any other good vacation rentals within walking distance of transition? Guess I have to head back to VRBO to search... |

I settled on a local chain hotel which worked out well. I still haven't booked lodging for this year yet! |

60 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Hello all, Haven't checked in for awhile. I'm about 6 weeks into my plan and so far so good. Came off doing a 1/2IM and taking a few weeks of easy stuff and family time, but now full on for November. Plan on doing an Olympic in September at the race site in Tempe and then carry on to IM. Between family, work and training things are BUSY, but wife and children are very supportive so far and understand the time commitment. Hope all continues good for everyone and hope to see/meet a lot of you in Tempe in November.

Extreme Veteran 483 Pacific NW | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Quiet forum - y'all must be out training your azzes off! C'mon, I know there's some IMCdA peeps that are doing IMAZ as well. That group definitely knows how to post. I've been practicing my couch-potato skills since CdA, but I finally tracked down my mojo this week. Just in time...only 4 more months to go!!! Edited by sarahk 2011-07-22 9:42 PM |

Regular 215 Kirkwood, Mo. | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread No time to post have to go running It has been a very quiet group. This will be my first full and I am hoping to gain some insight about this course. I was looking at last years threads for tire selection. Seem to remember something about thorns or other road debris being an issue for this course. Would others who have done this course recommend a more durable/slower tire or race a faster tire. Using Conti 4000s right now but would like to try something faster. Hope everyones training is going well in this heat. |

Veteran 217 United States Military Academy | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread This is my second consecutive year at IMAZ. Last years thread wasn't active as well.....not sure if its an IMAZ thing. I had no issues with flats last year, and I don't recall seeing an excessive number of people on the side of the rode repairing flats. I do recall a race report mentioning 3 flats.... So take my info for what its worth. If any one else has questions about the course, logistics, etc..., please feel free to ask. As for training....July has been a great month for me. I have already tripled my run total from last month and easily doubled my bike mileage. Rode a century last weekend and completed a decent brick this morning. I am highly motivated to do well this year, as I was disappointed with my performance last year at IMAZ. Anyways....hope everyone else's training is going great also. Chris |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I have been riding the IM AZ course for several weeks now and use Conti GP 4000's and they are holding up well. There is a good amount of debris, rocks, etc on the Beeline Hwy, and I expect that will remain through race day. So if you go with ultralight (and ultrafast) tires, keep your eyes on the road for crap that will derail your pace. |

Did a local 2.4 mi swim today and swam it 24 minutes faster than I swam IM AZ 2 years ago so I'm hoping that's a good sign that things are on track Ending rest week tomorrow and then back into some heavy training weeks starting Monday! I'm getting down to our place in Scottsdale for a training trip Labor Day weekend and can't wait! |

Regular 215 Kirkwood, Mo. | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Thanks for the info on the tires. May just stick with the Conti's/latex for Arizona and something faster for Branson. Those roads were really clear last year. Still have to make hotel arrangements and decide if I am driving or flying. I may be going solo. Keri will be 8 months prego with twins by then and the Doc said no way on travel. |

Veteran 217 United States Military Academy | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Well, I am halfway completed with Fink's ironfit plan (starting week 15).....pretty exciting to be 50% complete with this years "official" IM training. With that said, I feel like I still have a lot of improving to do on the run!!! My big workouts this week are Saturday's 4 hr bike/30 min run brick and Sunday's 75 min run. Let's hear what everyone else's "big" workouts are this week.... |

60 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Just finished a really LONG block of training and starting my first recovery week. Kind of looking forward to it, but being my first IM worrying about it at the same time. Planning a little camping trip with the family at the end of the week. Will do some mtn. biking and trail running while camping to keep things moving. Hope everyone is healthy and staying strong. Are we going to try and plan a get together either before or after the race for all BT people? |

I'm looking forward to you seeing you blow by me on the course! Sadly, I think she's probably at the end of her rope with me. It's been a tough year... One of these days work will get better and I'll get my life back. In the meantime, it's all about getting enough training in to survive the races. |

Extreme Veteran 833 Strong Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Last night I finally got to do my first long run post-CdA.....8.5 miles at a decent pace and I didn't feel horribly out of shape. It actually felt great to feel like an athlete again since I'd been pretty much doing nothing the last 4 weeks.
Have my first standalone marathon at the end of August, but my main goal is to better my 12:22 in Idaho by an hour or so. |
