Veteran 243 Cuernavaca, Mexico | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Mike – How exciting that you are getting your bike tomorrow! That’s great! I’m no expert regarding shoes, I had a pair of New Balance I bought at Sam’s Club which felt very comfortable. But then somebody told me I should buy a pair of Nike’s specially designed running shoes for women. The shoes recommended at the Nike site were not to be found, but I got another pair. They were 40% more expensive than their normal retail price in the US (like everything else I need for tris, bikes even 50%), but I can tell you that they are worth every peso I spent, even though they are not the fanciest ones. As opposed to my New Balance, I feel I’m walking on air. If I were in the States, I would do the running style test on line, then at the shop and buy the pair that was designed for my style at a more reasonable price. I appreciate your cheerleading and inspire. They come at a good time. I went to the doctor yesterday and it seems I need to be immobilized for another week. I changed my plan accordingly, but I expect things to develop slower than I had first hoped. I will be receiving the New Year and 19 guests for dinner with an orthopaedic boot. That should be interesting… LOL Josh – Are we not doing a weight challenge as well? Is it better to do one at a time? I’m afraid I’m gaining weight… |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm out of work early today, so I may go to the shoe store and get fitted before heading home. My 1/2 mary plan calls for a long run on Sunday - my longest to date - and I'd like to get my feet into comfy shoes as I ramp up the miles & effort for the race. My current shoes have served me well, but they're pretty much done as far as race/training use goes. |

Expert 1151 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Hi everyone, Sorry I've not been on this thread much. I'm still in Buffalo but will be heading back to Vegas tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has sent me inspires. I will be sending some out myself when I get back home. Right now, I'm going to try and get on the elliptical for an hour (hopefully my daughter stays asleep-the clock is running so I better get moving). |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED New shoes in the house! Went to Marathon Sports as recommended, Josh. They checked out my feet, my gait, etc, and showed me a couple pairs of shoes. the first ones were the best feeling sneakers I've ever owned. Saucony something or others. Like springy clouds you put on your feet! Can't wait to get them on the road. |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Good morning everyone. So I am going to work on the challenge spreadsheet today. What we will do is have 4 categories - Swim, Bike, Run, and Weight. Over the next 3 months, pick 1 a month. This way if you can do one thing or don't have a bike or access to a pool, you can still participate each month. Durning the first couple of the days of the month, do a TT or weigh yourself. Then at the end of the month, do the say thing. The person with the biggest % gain, or weight loss in each category wins. At the end, we will take the average of all 3 and there will be 1 big winner. How does this sound? |

Extreme Veteran 793 Naperville, IL | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Well we had a freak weather day today -- 50 degrees and sunny when I headed out for a run (haven't run outside in over a month) to set my time for the TT. Used my standard 3.4 mile route. Was not very optimistic given that I've been pushing hard and I felt like heXX / felt like I was coming down with something. While I paid for it during the last mile, the overall result was a new PR of 27:51 for an 8:11 / mile pace -- so that'll be my entry for this months challenge. Weighed in at 82 kg / 180 pounds (where I seem to be stuck). Only problem I see with the challenge is finding a good day in early March to set the bike baseline. Hopefully will get a break in the weather then as well. Finally, managed to make my goal for December of training swim, bike or run every day. While I'm happy with the accomplishment, won't try this again as I need a day off! Hope everyone has a safe and sound New Years. |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED I like the plan as well, I'm up for all the challenges. Bike fit went well today, but ended with me having to back this thursday to try a bigger size frame. Looks like I need a 61. Amazing how many measurements, and adjustments they make. When I did get a chance to ride the bike, it felt fantastic!! Can't wait to get the bigger frame, get it adjusted, and hit the road. Added some Ultegra pedals, Specialized Tri-vent shoes, and an Adamo saddle. the stock saddle was like sitting on a rock. |

Expert 1151 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: BB's Really Beginner Mentor Group - CLOSED Did a run TT on the TM (used 0 incline) and did a 5K in 28.35 which is a PR for me. I would love to see my time under 28 for my upcoming Jan 5K. Last year, this was the first 5K I trained for using a program similar to C25K and finished in 36 mins, so I would love to see a big improvement. My best race time in a 5K so far has been 29 mins, so we'll see. |

It was 52 and calm this morning, but turned 30 and 15-20 mph winds this evening. Nice going out, but brutul coming back. Oh well, no excuses, I'm using it. I would like to run a 5k in less than 30 min. by March. |
