Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jford2309 - 2011-01-24 4:35 PM One thing we have doen in other mentor groups, was to set some goals. One time we did a group goal of completeing an Ironman distance with our training logs (run 26 miles, bike 112 and swim 2.4 miles in a month) Start thinking if that is something we can do as a group and that way we can help motivate, kick in the butt when needed. If no one wants to play, that's cool too. We can make it to fit each person individually. Sounds good! I enjoy a good challenge. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds good to me. I am actually thinking about posting monthly goals for myself in my logs as well (starting next month) and would love a firm kick in the pants if I'm not on track to reach them... ![]() |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That sounds like a good idea. I know I'll need goals and all the motivation I can get. I have finalized my schedule for this year. I have concluded that I am very motivated or very stupid.....my guess is somewhere in between. Here's the sched: 4/2 Gateway Sprint Triathlon in Gatlinburg, TN 5/22 Easton Town Center Sprint Tri in Columbus, OH 6/5 Warrior Dash in Logan, OH (this one is going to be interesting) 6/25 Mountaineer Sprint Tri in Mrogantown, WV 8/28 Outer Limits Sprint Tri in Columbus, OH Good gravy, what have I done??? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would love a new challenge. I already fell off the wagon in the Georgia forum where my self challenge was to bike 5x/week and complete 95% of my workouts. But I'm back at it this week, hardcore. I'm not on the list. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for fixing that Joe! So I propose in Feb that we try to set a team goal. I am sticking with the IM distance for the month. (or if that is too much, then go for your longest tri-sprint or Olympic distances) In Feb, I will: Swim 2.4 miles Bike 112 miles Run 26.2 miles And don;t forget, Feb is a short month! |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is what my Feb goals are based on my program: Swim 3.2 miles Bike 110 miles Run 30 miles This was a quick and dirty calculation but it should be fairly accurate. Wish me luck! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well i Have an early season race, so I'm going to have to go this x3. In February, I will: Swim 7.2 Joe, may I ask why the elliptical instead of running? I'd say if you can't run for whatever reason, you can use it. But if it's just because you don't like the treadmill than no. I think the elliptical will help you keep in shape, but it's not really the same as running, you're using different muscles in different ways. There's nothing like your foot pounding the pavement. Even a treadmill (which I use quite often in the winter) isn't the same as you're not pushing off the way you would on solid ground. But sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Since we've determined our HIM's area about a week apart, my volume should be similar... then again you're a super speedy gonzalez compared to me so maybe I should go for time and not distance fo rmy goal? ![]() And x2 to your comments on running. I frequently will use the elliptical if my calf is acting up as it's cardio, but the only way to become a better/faster runner is to run more. |

As far as the elliptical goes I was going to use it because my knee has been acting up lately. Still going to use it I just wont count it. |
