New user 3 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Name: speedrager/Michael What is your Ironman resume? None - Steelhead 70.3, Muncie 70.3 Why did you choose Ironman Wisconsin? Only a six hour drive and I wanted an Ironman sponsored race to be my first full distance. What are you goals for IMWI 2012? I would love to go under 12 hours but I want to enjoy the entire experience and take everything in. What are you most looking forward to? The emotions of seeing the finish line, my first mass swim start and pushing my body to its limit Veterans any advice you can give early on? I've never been to Madison but have read about as much as possible regarding the race. I'm looking to understand some logistics to the race as well as possibly locate some Madison-local training partners for rides this summer if I can make it up. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread So I know last year they had Ironman Perform orange flavor on the course (or at least at the run aid stations I saw) in 2011. For those of you who have done multiple IMWI - do they change the flavors every year or when or where can I find out what flavor they will be offering this year so I can start training with it? |

Not the best news of the day, but at least I've got 9 months to build up an immunity to the stuff. Thanks for doing the leg work and posting the update!

Extreme Veteran 445 Sioux Falls, SD | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Ok I know this might be a little early to ask... BUT are their groups that will be training in WI at all this summer?? As I live in South Dakota...its not to bad to travel for a long weekend of training.. Or are their "camps" (just curious as some might be getting their race schedule set..) Thanks... GJ |

Or are their "camps" (just curious as some might be getting their race schedule set..) Thanks... GJ To answer your question in the most simplest form: Yes and there is both. The "IM loop" is known to be about as busy as any interstate in Wisconsin in the summer. Seriously all triathletes flock to this 40 mile segment every summer, every weekend. Ton's of training groups both local and remote are spotted all summer long. It usually gets really busy in July and August. Their are "camps" too. Endurance Nation last year put on a free camp that was more or less a big training group of their athletes an others, I believe the last wkd of July. My coach is having a great camp the first wkd of August ($350), he knows his stuff and is going for the overall win this year (PM me if you want more info). You should see some more posts about this type of stuff in the coming months, or do a google search online if you are looking for a camp. |

Veteran 129 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Looks like I'm a little late to this party, but better late than never. Name: Tom What is your Ironman resume? None... Chicago Marathon 2011, several Oly's 2009-11, lifetime swimmer Why did you choose Ironman Wisconsin? It's close to Chicago, my cousins live there and can provide a free lake house for the weekend, and I've heard nothing but good things about the crowds and quality of the race organization. What are you goals for IMWI 2012? First and foremost: finish, leaving nothing on the course. Although it's my first IM, I have set some pretty lofty time goals for myself, but I feel good about my base going into the spring and am confident about my training plan. And although I go into every race with time goals, I am also flexible and will adjust my goals to reality mid-race. What are you most looking forward to? The party in downtown Madison known as the finish chute. I watched the 2011 race and was at the finish from 7-12...it was absolutely amazing. That and a strong swim (going for sub-1) that will put be in the perfect position to see everyone pass me on the run Training plan: kind of figuring it out on my own, which is usually the way I like to do things. I'm using a couple of different plans as a framework and customizing around my race/life schedule and ability. The main plan I am using is the "super coach" plan from tri-fuel, and I also plan to incorporate some of the "Big Day Workouts" which I found in an triathlete.com article. In the midst of base session now; set to begin my "official" plan on March 19! |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm a little late to the party as well. I just found the thread and checked on the IM list and sure enough I'm on there. It actually brought a chill just seeing my name on the list... Name: Tony What is your Ironman resume? None, this will be my first Why did you choose Ironman Wisconsin? I live in Omaha, so it's the closest one. I also really liked what i've read about the atmosphere and want my first IM experience to be a memorable one. What are you goals for IMWI 2012? Hmm, well of course I'd love to KQ but I'm thinking that may be a bit challenging on the first attempt. lol I guess my biggest goal is to complete all of my training and be as prepared as I possibly can be for the race. Then let the chips fall where they may. What are you most looking forward to? "Tony Underwood, you are an Ironman!!!" (I'm least looking forward to the butterflies walking down the ramp at the start.) I'm really looking forward to this journey. When I first started my weight loss journey a year and a half ago all I wanted to do was an IM. Now is my chance!!!

Expert 2355 Madison, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Check back in late March, it usually opens in April sometime and they put out all the registration info up around March. If you want a spot badly I suggest getting online as it opens, spots such as; wetsuit strippers, finish line, bike catchers, etc fill very quickly. |

This is my grudge match for a DNF in '09. Why did you choose Ironman Wisconsin? This course needs a beatdown after getting the better of me in '09. Crowds are awesome, geographically convenient. What are you goals for IMWI 2012? Finish. Physically I think I'm capable of going sub 13, but the discipline in training to get there is pretty suspect. What are you most looking forward to? Not having to explain to people why I dropped out at mile 17 of the run. |
