Okay, well I am not one to keep away from donuts, soooo ...

"donut ride" can mean lots of things, for "real" roadies it often means a recovery ride, as in, riding down to the shop for donuts and coffee ... (possibly even REALLY having a donut and coffee)

What it means here in West L.A. (2) things, 1) a super-easy beginner's (or recovery) ride that starts and ends from a coffee shop so everyone has donuts and coffee at the end

OR THIS IS THE BEST ONE

2) It's a super-long ride but with donut stops every 10 miles. You can just ride for fun and eat donuts, OR there's a complicated game whereby it's a timed ride, but for every donut you eat, X minutes gets hacked off your ride. It's set up pretty evenly so that if you can manage to scarf down 2 boxes of donuts, you may very well win the ride even if you are one of the slower riders.

Good luck keeping 'em down, though

Don't feel bad. I currently have 3 bikes, none of which actually fit me. So I'm also making do until I can get a new bike.

I commute on a giant beach cruiser (bought my friend in the '80s and he's 6' 2"

I did all my early triathlons up to a HIM on an '80s steel bike with cruiser bars

I have a gorgeous titanium tricked-out tri bike which is just the teeniest bit too small for me (adjusted to the max), so very bad things happen when I ride it over 25 miles or put any significant weekly mileage on it.

I guess I should say what would be good finger food to soak up all the liquids that will be conssumed

hmmmmm, that you can take on a bus.....................

this requires some thought

I know thats my problem too.  Hubby thinks don't bother, but this bunch can drink and since they rented a bus and nobody has to drive it could get ugly, thus me thinking bring food to sop it up.

I think you may be on to something.......

think, think, think............................

Where is kristin when ya need advice on liquid sopping food.   Actually I think she is out right now eating stuff to sop up all the liquid she is consuming in celebration of her new space.

LOL!

and to think, I used to be an expert on this topic

Um, have I acquired a reputation as a lush around here???

LazyMarathoner - 2008-11-20 9:19 PM Hey freaks! Guess what? I signed a lease in Brooklyn tonight! It's my first apartment I will ever have alone. I'm terrified and excited at the same time! I'm out celebrating now.

When do you move?

My lease starts Jan 1 and I will move in gradually at first, then hire the movers for the big stuff toward the end of the month. I have to be out of this place by Feb 1.

Yeah well ... two of the bikes are worth a lot of money (except, of course, RIGHT NOW), but I'm still going to strip them down and sell the parts. High-end parts sell fast and close to price, and even selling a few would net me more than I can sell the bikes for whole at this moment.

So the taco ride is not so much about riding

basically we start out at the base of the trail and have a beer (on a good night, we've coordinated mojitos )

we then ride our bikes to margaritaville......about 7 miles (or somewhat less) -

margaritaville is a clearing along the trail.............lot's of bike racks and  a few picnic tables - once we arrive at maragritaville, we have another beer..or..

we then ride another 3 miles to a small town - Mineloa and everyone descends upon the the steakhouse to eat tacos - yes, we go to the steakhouse to eat tacos.................

there is usually a local band playing

we eat, we drink, we ride our bikes back in the dark

we laugh, we ride, we have fun.....................

I wish I could find the article.............

the best was the year my friends rode in their gorrilla costumes!

I'm thinking the motion of the bus, combined with the booze, combined with food could be a recipe for disaster

I'll second Beth's cheese and crackers. The fat content of the cheese and the carbs in the crackers will keep the metabolism going, which keeps you from getting too drunk. Something like hummus with pita chips or little pita triangles would also be nice. Or with baby carrots. I'll let you know if I think of any others....
