Good Morning Team.

I hope you all had a great weekend.

Coach - I think Tim is running at the end of this month?

Typical Spring (crappy) weather here today - Thunder showers all day. My plan calls for a run and a swim. It looks like the run will have to be on the mill (BOO!) and I can not swim tonight because it is my final curling night - guess I will lift instead and maybe do a small spin on the bike.

That is it for me - have a great day.

KC

EDIT/ADDITION

I forgot to mention, this is MASTERS WEEK  Smile Enjoy it everyone.

Alright!  Feelin' like I can actually breathe so now it's back to work.  I have this crappy thing where colds settle into my chest at the onset and I can't workout as, well, I can't breathe.  Tend to get light-headed very quickly.

That said, the cold worked itself out in time for me to hit a fall-back week, so less volume.  Couldn't hae asked for better.  I'm going to abuse the fact that I don't have much going on at work and take a real measured approach at coming back.

Sorry I've been MIA, which should really be MIIA - Missing In In-Action...

Sarcastic question - my training calls for an 8.4m run on Sunday but I have an 8k race on the same day.  Should I just keep going?

Be safe out there!

Got the week off right with a small ride, but a ride nonetheless.  It feels good to get started right.  Looks like everyone is busy, so keep it up.  No swim this week for me.  The center I use will be closed because of a small concert (Darius Rucker)on the adjacent gounds.  It goes along with that little golf tournamnet that KC mentioned, the Masters.

good morning.  sounds like everyone had a good weekend.  i love this time of year.  i love watching the masters.

scott- glad to hear your knee feels better.

i have another bike question.  i got fit when i purchased bike by my LBS.  i have done long rides outside and everytime my quads get fried- i mean really fried.  i decided to try and raise my seat just a little this past week and it was great.  i had the best ride yet- my quads never got that feeling.  towards the end i did start having a little hamstring pain.  the burned a little and i was ready to get off the bike.  i did a brick after and my legs were a little better than the weeks before with the quad burn.  should i continue to ride at this height and see if i get used to it or could i be doing more harm to my hams?

KC, the masters should be good to watch as lefty (hefty) is playing well again.  Have you been down to watch it ever?

Rob, I have done that before just finish the race and do a quick cooldown to get the extra distance in.  Nice to hear your feeling better!

I think my name the "Sickies" is still very fitting for the next session

Court, nice to hear from you.  Hope you can get some training in this week.  I can imagine that "small" tourney creates a few headaches for locals.

Jason,  is your LBS into triathlons?  Do they do a standard fitting or a tri fitting?  There is a huge difference in the muscles you will use.   When I switched to a tri setup my hamstrings were toast for a few weeks as they never pulled so much.

Had a good treadmill run this morning! 6 miles in 45:30 at 3% incline.

I am officially out of the clydesdale division.  First time I've been under 200 since 1999 when I graduated boot camp.

"sickies" sounds about right.

yes, they are a tri shop.  if your hams hurt at first then maybe i should just ride a while ands see if i get used to it.  i had a much better ride then the weeks before.  thanks

Hey Team - hope all is well. I don't know about you guys but this weather is getting me down in the dumps Cry

I swear I am starting to suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) LOL - seriously - Rain Rain Go Away - I want to go golfing, running and biking outside for crying out loud some day!

Coach - Lefty looks good - but I am picking the current #1 in the World - Kaymer but no matter what, it is always sweet to watch and yes I have been and now that we know Court is there - (Hi Court) I may just have to invite myself down again next year Smile

Rob - since I am the Canadian in the group, let me do the conversion for you - lets see - can you start 3.4 miles before the start line so you get your 8.4 miles in? If you time it right you can get there just as the gun goes off LOL - glad you are feeling better. (did I do that right? 1.6 km per mile right? Oh well you get it LOL)

Jason - wish I could help you on the bike question but I just got mine late last fall, got fitted but never had the chance to give it a fair test outside but as soon as I do I will let you know what parts of my body hurt and share with everyone again what parts of my body go numb Embarassed

Court - sorry to hear about the pool closure in Augusta - however, since it is Darius and he is formerly from the band Hootie and the Blow Fish - I guess it is fitting that a poisonous fish is shutting down your pool.

Keith - nice work on the weight loss - that is awesome.

OK - time for me to head to the dungeon (basement) for a fun run on the mill and to lift some weights.

Have a great night all. If you are looking for me I will be at the curling rink yelling "Hurry Hard" "Wow" "Yes" "Sweep" and if you listen carefully, you may just actually be able to hear me - I will be yelling extra hard - it is the playoffs Smile.

KC

Well?  Did you make it?

Did spin class last night.  Didn't do a double as normally scheduled as it was my first day back while still feeling the lingering effects of my cold.  Hate to complain, but this is holding on for awhile.  Felt pretty hard at the beginning but after about 25 minutes, I couldn't feel anything so I thought "hey, this is going pretty good".

Feeling alot better this morning.  Hope you all are doing well out there.

Have a great day everyone!

I actually made it to class, I forgot what a pool was for a while.  This was at the University pool and the temp was 85deg, that is pretty warm to swim laps in.  It was nice to have someone watching all your moves as most of what I have done is self taught, so I'm pretty pumped about this now.

Good Morning Team.

Coach - nice work getting out of the wrapper and getting in the pool this morning.

I spent the morning with a heart specialist here in Windsor. My family doctor refered me to him for an ultra sound of my heart and a electrocardiogram.  I was in to see my doc a few weeks ago about a couple of things and he thought this would be a good idea. I guess he was right. I have been diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic heart valve that has a tiny little leak. Apparently 2% of the population have this which means it is very common. Below I have pasted the technical medical mumbo jumbo if you are interested.

The Heart specialist has assured me that I have nothing to worry about and I am to carry on with everything that I do but he wants to monitor me every couple of years unless I notice any significant issues with my health. I of course shared with him my new found passion for our sport and he said I have absolutely nothing to worry about. My heart muscle is working perfecty, my blood presure is good and not to worry - so I won't.

So, I guess this means I get to keep swimming, biking, running, curling and GOLFING Smile .

Have a great day everyone - Bike and Swim scheduled for me today.

A bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is a defect of the aortic valve that results in the formation of two leaflets or cusps instead of the normal three. Normally only the mitral valve (bicuspid valve) has two cusps (instead of three); situated between the left atrium and left ventricle. Valves ensure the unidirectional flow of blood from the atrium to the ventricles, or the ventricles to the major arteries and veins

KC, thats good news about your heart not being a huge issue.  As with all medical questions I will ask my wife to translate it to english! Lol

Keith, no real pointers just some drills that I sucked at as I had never done them.  I was with KC as I was always out of breath doing some of the drills.  But he did watch my pull and I tend to pull all over the place instead of straight back.

KC you will like to hear I struggled like crazy as he had us doing sets of 3 strokes per breath then 5. On the 5 I was about to pass out.. It was also nice to have him tell me its no big deal to breath every 2 like I do, he actually does that too. I just have to watch and make sure I rotate on the no breathing side.

Just a off the wall question for the group, do any of you have asthma?  I ask because in the past 4 months I have used my inhaler more than in the past 15 years.  I know that I'm alittle out of shape but I have to hit it when I'm in bed not even working out.  I'm hoping its just something in the air.

Safe training.

Coach - no asthma here and I would love to hear what your wife has to say about the heart valve if you don't mind sharing it with me.

Sorry to hear you were struggling in the pool this morning for a couple of the drills. I am back in the water tonight but for right now since it is another crappy weather day I am heading down to the basement for a date with my bike and trainer.

Have a great night everyone.

Thank god I'm not anyones doctor, my wife off the top of her head said about word for word your definition.  I have no clue how anyone can retain that much knowledge.  But she agrees not a whole lot to worry about as long as monitored.

So has everyone been practicing transitions and race day nutrition?

Haha transition is my best split! Now, if you could win a race based on transitions, I'd be golden Wink

No asthma here either.

KC, I discovered I have a heart issue recently too. Apparently I have a valve prolapse. My primary care had me horrified and told me  "you can't be running or doing any of 'that business' until after you've seen a specialist". Then I saw a cardiologist and she asked me if I do any exercise. I said "yes, a little. I just finished a half marathon, and I'm training for a half Ironman" LOL she all but told me to get out of her office. Apparently, I have nothing to worry about either. Cool
