Count me in please.  And I havn't weighed in on this yet but they really do need to make these mentor groups longer.  I think someone already said this but you just start to get comfortable and know everyone and then its over.  Doesn't make sense.  Maybe they could offer two types one annual and one quarterly.

razorxp - 2011-04-07 8:32 AM

They just archived the groups so I guess they will be switching over. I have no control when they release mentors so hang tight and keep checking this site too.  I will open the new group to a handful of people and save spots for all interested.

Masters? Isn't that the game with stick things and little white lumpy balls Wink

Question for team Sickies.........Ok, I'm a 'little' anxious here. On Saturday I will be 10 weeks from my HIM (OMG  that's 70 days Surprised). I know people have said "just follow the plan", however, by following the plan, my longest ride has been 2.5 hours = 35 miles. Surely there is no way this is going to give me enough time/ miles on the bke with such little time to go?

If it were you, would you up your bike miles?

When I was a pure roadie a few years ago and training for centuries, I think I remember seeing that if you can do 70% of the mileage of your goal event then you can do your goal.  I know my longest rides were in the 60-70 mile range before my century and I was able to ride the whole thing.

Now, that was when you were riding only but you're almost hitting that number with 10 weeks to go so I'd feel a little more comfortable about it.  Like I said, I remember that tidbit from a while ago so if I'm wrong on that feel free to call BS on me.

Andy potts did not do over 56 miles for his 1st IM, key word PRO.lol (he probably bikes 6 days a week for 80 miles)  I agree once you know you can do the distance there is not much difference between 80 and 112, but if you have never done it most don't want to go the full distance for the 1st time on race day.  Only the other hand you won't know how long it is which can be good.

FYI I put our group in the que so they release them slowly.  We can just check here until "razorxp group the sickies" goes live.  I thought you would like the name... :-)

I've had a fantastic week off.  Run, bike, swim, repeat.  Watched some training vids.  Made progress on the run and the swim and the bike.  Feeling pretty chipper.  See you in the new group.

Hey Team.

Thanks Coach and I like the name. Maybe it will have the opposite effect and we will all be healthy for the season?

Enjoyed my spin on the bike today with the Masters on the TV Smile . Heading to the pool in an hour.

Have a great night everyone.

good to see everyone is doing well.  thanks for everyones participation.  this group is great.

i did a long run tioday and my hip and knee started hurting.  it was tough to decide whether to keep going or quit so i did not do any damage.  it sucks because i ran about 13.5 miles and the entire time i was hurting i was thinking "how do i ever think i will do 26.2 in a full".  very humbling....again.  this sport is humbling.

Good Morning Team.

So far no knee issues for me (knock wood). I hope everyone figures it out and gets better fast!

Another rainy spring day in Southwestern Ontario Cry . It may be another run on the mill and ride on the trainer - oh well at least I will have the Masters to watch.

Off to work - have a great day all.

Hope to see you in the new group some time today.

good morning everyone.  its friday!!!

my knee feels a little better today.  still sore.  advil and rest helped.

how do you know if it is regular training pain or something that could cause injury?  dave, scott i am sure doing IM and training for it you have to have pains here and there.  is that not normal?

For me I just can tell, there is a huge differance between normal tweeks and pains to what I have going on now.  Same with stress fracture vrs sore shins.  When mine were bad they would throb while laying in bed.  Of the 10 or so people that I train with that do IM's only 1 or 2 are always pain free.  Most are injured with something all the time, usually just a nagging pain that you can work through with a nice painfull massage.

were supposed to hit 80 this weekend I hope the rain holds off and knee is better.

Awesome workout day today!!  Biked to the pool (5.75 miles), swam 1700 yards total, biked back (took 10 minutes extra to get home.  My legs were toast) then ran 3 miles.  I am very proud of myself!  Time for lunch, and then a nap!  I'm going to be sore tomorow!  But I love it!  Need to improve my run time though.  I'd like to be low 8 minute/mile.

Deb - Congrats on you tri group being featured in Triathlete magazine!!

Keith awesome workout!

Anyone have plans to run/race this weekend? Midwest is supposed to be very warm (80's) but could be alittle wet.  I'm bummed a bunch of guys that race are going out sat am for a 110 ride but the smart thing for me would to be lay low and rest my knee (I could atleast try to ride lol)

With the new group they won't release our group until others fill up so keep holding tight.

Safe training

IM = pain.  Aging prepared me well for it then.   My legs are 59 years old.   They've carried up to 400 pounds at a time.   I look at fat folks who are my age who are on scooters and I understand how lucky I am.  Pain?  What pain?  My tendinitis sucks.  I think I and my coach discovered the root cause...a knee that moves a lot.  Rubs the tendons near it and eventually they ignite.  The strap is really helping.  I've done two 8 mile runs and a 7 mile run in the past three weeks with only very minor soreness that I am able to run, bike and swim through until I RICE.  Right now on my rest day my legs feel a little sore as they should have a week of good strong workouts, but it is totally manageable.   I have a brick tomorrow - 90 min bike ride on the CT with 4 X 10 mins LT build from 90, 95, 100 and 105% percent.  Tough but I did it Tuesday and hit all the numbers.  Ran 7 miles Wednesday night after a light bike recovery ride.  All good.

I do agree, some of this is learning to be mentally tough enough to work through the minor aches and pains yet alert enough to listen to my body and know when it is telling me to coast a bit and let it heal.  A fine line that is cloudy until experience teaches me which is which.  Tough lessons sometimes.  But worth it.  No scooter for me at the grocery store, thank you very much.

Hey Team - just finished my weights and mill run - while watching the Masters of course Smile and I am hoping to play golf tomorrow early for the first time since I was in Florida for the Christmas break.

Keith - awesome workout - WAY TO GO! keep it up my friend.

Iceman - love your attitude.

Coach - not sure about Deb and her group - anyone seen the new Tri Mag? Don't worry, we will be patient for the new group. I have a friend who might like to join us if that is ok?

No swim tonight - I have learned to stay away from my pool on Friday nights - it is a rec swim and way to crazy to get any good work done - so - a nice glass of red wine some pasta, the rest of the Friday round at Augusta and in bed early I think tonight.

Have a great night everyone.

Knees seem to be a recurring theme in our group! Hope we are all healing well.

Keith, I knew it was in the magazine, but I have yet to see the article. Is it a good one?

Have discovered that when I thought I had been responding to 'inspires', some of them seem to get lost or do not go to the persons page. I think in part it's when I use my IPod, and partly because I haven't clicked in the right area. Either way, If you have inspired me and not had a response, it's not because I didn't appreciate it. It's more likely because I am a simpleton. Laughing

Thanks to everybody on the team!

Deb's tri group (Tri-Fury) was the featured triathlon club in Triathlete magazine!  It is a good article.  By reading that it makes me wish I lived closer so I could join you guys!!  Where is Stiles pond?  Are you doing Pumpkinman in September?

Good Saturday all,

I has a good week on consistant training.  Something I have missed for almost two months.  My back feels good so I will continue today with either a ride or a run, can't decide.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

So I decided to do a bike and a run.  Not much...just under 5 on the bike, chained it up and then .5 on the run.  But it helps heal my mind as much as my back.  I am still taking it easy.
