Expert 1083 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas mountain_erin - 2011-05-05 12:56 PM Dang it, I just ordered some this morning.... good thing there's a 30 day return policy. thanks for the offer I'm not sure how much of a chance I'll have to try them out before the race. It SNOWED on my Sunday for my last long ride. Its supposed to be 80 this weekend (but 40 in the morning) and its a "dry heat". Maybe I'll just cruise around Houston Thurs and Fri in a tank top and my cool wings, looking awesome and stuff. That is funny, but you will probably fit right in. I bet everyone in the area is going to be wearing race stuff and compression socks and the like! Let's touch base when you get to town and I'll get them to you ASAP so you can make sure they work for you. |

Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas PLMsbr - 2011-05-05 12:34 PM Interesting... is that only true for those specific bike shorts? Or do others have the buoyancy properties? Another option that I've used in the past, based on others' recommendations, is to simply pull on a pair of bike shorts over the tri shorts. No changing tent needed, then just dump them at T2 (or earlier if they are old ones and you get too warm). Separate question that may have been discussed already... any word on getting from T1 to the swim start in the morning? Or do we just hoof it? JD I think it's only true for those specific De Soto bike shorts. Other bike shorts would resemble a wet diaper if you swam in them. |

I used regular bike shorts once, like you are describing, and yes, it felt like a wet diaper and definalty did not feel buoyant at all. Just my experience. Edited by bridgeland 2011-05-05 5:54 PM |

Regular 240 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas BJG85 - 2011-05-05 6:40 PM Hey thanks for asking. Pain free as of today, just really tight when I stretch. I have not run yet though. Just bike and swim, no pain there. Test will be this Sunday. Sports Med doc I saw on Tuesday said it was a mild case of hip bursitis. Fluid sack between hip bone and muscle that allows the muscle to glide over the bone. It got aggrevated and inflamed. Caused by bad form, shoes, over use the typical stuff that breaks everything. I backed off from running this week just in case. Too close to just keep running and make it worse. I hope I haven't lost to much run fitness. It's been 4 days since I last ran, it's messing with me mentally. Still pumped about the race. bridgeland - 2011-05-05 5:53 PM GMAN 19030 - 2011-05-05 5:31 PM PLMsbr - 2011-05-05 12:34 PM Interesting... is that only true for those specific bike shorts? My plan it to wear my tri top and shorts for the swim otherwise. Thanks! Hey Anne - check out DeSoto's 2011 liftfoil on sportsbasement.com. The price is very reasonable and more justifiable to me than the TYR. Maybe not quite as advanced, but I like mine. I will also wear it alone for shorter races - it has the 400 mile pad in it. I got a small and it's a bit tough to get on, but fits nice and snug once it's on. |

I got mine from The Tri Shop with something like and add'l 10% off (google for a coupon code) - I think I paid $190 for mine. |

Veteran 290 D/FW, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas Not to freak anyone out, but please double check your reservations. I just received these TWO posts on my blog today from my post about what happened to me at the Marriott Residence Inn/The Woodlands: "Same thing happened to me at the Residence Inn on Lake Front Drive. I called yesterday just to make sure it was confirmed even though I had the email saying it was. When I call they said I had been bumped to the Marriott Courtyard next door. Normally it would not be a huge issue except we wanted the kitchenette to prepare our own food. I was told that Marriott Platinum members take precedence and they can bump anybody to make sure they have a room. It is 2 weeks before the race and I was never notified. SO I would have shown up that day with my ice chest full of food and nowhere to put it. AND I also had made my reservations a year a go!! While I am thankful to still have a hotel within walking distance that is a ridiculous policy they have. When I talked to corporate they just told me "Thats the way it is. It is just an unfortunate situation." "The same thing happened to me at the Hilton next door to that hotel you are talking about, the girl on the phone told me they are oversold by 40 rooms two days ago, and would only keep one of my 3 rooms i booked back in june too.when i asked her how something like that could happen she said everybody knew about the race before the hotels did and they could not put up rooms for the racers fast enough and the higher up hilton people booked reservations and pushed they rest of us out, gee thanks! now I am leaving some of my family home because there is no room for them to come along. Expert 706 Spring (Houston), TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas dodgersmom - 2011-05-06 11:18 AM Does anyone besides me know that the are grossly undertrained? I've been battling a foot injury since February, so running volume is very low. I've gotten long rides in, but still not enough total mileage. And I swim slowly. The run will have a lot of walking for me. If I am sub 15 hours, I'll be glad. |

How the hell is it staying up? I've tried to wear one without a top and it slides down. Double stick waterproof 3M tape around the band, oh and just a doggy paddle stroke, no freestyle or backstroke, flexing the lats will make it drop. All joking aside, I don't use it unless I have a top now. It does work, but it has to be SUPER tight; to the point where it is uncomfortable. I had to cut the one you see, and stitch it together to make the band smaller. It would still loosen and fall with it adjusted all the way down, this is why I had to cut it. |

" I double checked my TriBike Transport reservation and it turns out the bike shop I was planning on dropping off my bike at is no longer on their partner list (even though the email confirmation I received still listed that shop as the one I should drop it off at). I'm sooo glad I checked and there's another shop 30 minutes away that I can use so it's no problem. Not being able to ship my bike as planned would have been a big problem. That's one piece of gear I can't do without. 15 days?????? I'm so damn excited. I can't wait to do this thing. |
