kdevarenne - 2011-04-09 7:31 AM Deb's tri group (Tri-Fury) was the featured triathlon club in Triathlete magazine!  It is a good article.  By reading that it makes me wish I lived closer so I could join you guys!!  Where is Stiles pond?  Are you doing Pumpkinman in September?

Stiles pond is just a few miles from my house. It's a great training 'pond' and very clean (aside from the fresh water jellyfish we had last year Surprised. Yes, actual jellyfish in a pond!). It comes in at around 1.2 miles if you swim out and back. Nice thing is, there is pretty much always someone to swim with, and they organize group swims each week too.

Pumpkinman. Well, funny you should ask - I actually went to Maine last weekend and drove the course thinking I might do it. It's so much nearer than I thought it was, and the course is beautiful!

But here's the thing. I hadn't mentioned to the group, but I applied to get into NYC marathon. The odds are not that great, but IF I get in I will be focusing on that and likely do just a couple of sprints for the rest of the season. If not, and there are still spots open, I will likely plan on Pumpkinman.

Are you thinking of doing it too?

ltcsh1 - 2011-04-09 10:30 AM So I decided to do a bike and a run.  Not much...just under 5 on the bike, chained it up and then .5 on the run.  But it helps heal my mind as much as my back.  I am still taking it easy.

You're right with the mind healing. Sometimes you are just waiting for things to 'go' again, and it helps just easing back into things.

Well done with the consistency too.

Deb - I amplanning on doing Pumkinman Sprint.  The half iron is almost 200$.  I can't afford that this year.  I mapquested Stiles pond, it's 1:30 from me.  Cry  So it doesn't look like I'll be joining you.  What time do you guys usually swim?  If it was an afternoon swim I might be able to, definitly not mornings though.

Hey Team.

Happy Masters Saturday Smile

Coach - I am picking Day the Autratlian kid - just coming on tv and it looks like it is going to be some great drama.

I played 18 holes this morning (a bit chilly and the course was wet) and it was great to be out. I finished in time to stop at the pool on the way home, do a quick 1100 meters, home in time to settle in and watch the golf - Life Is Good.

I hope everyone is doing great - I will catch up on post's from the last 24 hours later today.

Have a great day everyone.

Twain said Golf is a game that spoils a lovely walk (or something to that effect.)  I found it so years ago.

90 mins LTs on the bike, then 90 min. 9 mile run/brick.  Legs feel sore but fine.  No tendinitis breakdowns.  Rollers, anti inflammatory meds, all good.

Good Morning Team.

Good Morning IceMan. He did say "Golf is a good walk spoiled" so I am wondering what he would say about swimming, biking and running? He probably would not have liked this sport either - oh well - he did not know what he was missing Smile

I was going to do a bike this morning even though it is a bit chilly and damp but the real problem is the fog, so change of plans. I am going to clean my garage. Is that a sport? Do I get credit in my training log for it? LOL

Anyway, the new plan is now, clean the garage, hope the fog lifts before noon so I can get a nice windy ride in before the Masters starts at 2. If the fog does not lift, I will go for a nice run instead.

I hope everyone enjoys Masters Sunday.

KC

Good Masters Sunday afternoon Team.

Well, cleaned my garage, mounted my bike on the wall, the fog lifted and I got a very nice but windy ride in. I really enjoyed it but it comes with a funny story which I will tell here with words and pictures. I thought all of you might like it.

As you will see from the pictures below - I took the bike off the trainer in the basement and made some room for it on the wall in the garage (picture 1). When I finished the cleaning at about noon the fog had lifted and the weather warmed and it was time for my first outdoor ride of the season Smile.

Down came the bike, on went the helmet, the shoes, loaded the gatorade and off I went heading for the driveway. It was here that I believe I am now able to say I broke the record for the shortest distance ever travelled before the first crash of TRI season. 3.7 meters to be exact LOL Embarassed . So bad and pathetic is the record that I now own I felt compelled to document with the photos below. I have also included a picture of the bandage on my left knee which allows me to now claim my official knee injury, albeit a minor one thank God.

Enjoy the pictures and it is ok if you laugh - I did Laughing

Hope you are all having a great day and FYI - I picked my self up, dusted myself off, got back on the bike and enjoyed a great 21 km ride.

KC

PR'd the Shamrock Shuffle 8K at 41:06.  Pretty pleased despite the fact that I didn't really have a goal.  I even saw a PR at the 5K mark... not too shabby.

Killed myself a little on the first mile.  As I was passing the marker I looked down at my watch and saw 7:20.  Yikes, I needed to slow down!  So I peeled it back a bit...

Excellent result.

I was getting ready for my CT ride of 3:30, yes 3 hours and 30 mins because I refuse to fight 40 mph wind gusts, and the left knee that had been doing great all morning started to feel like it had a shin splint.  Went ahead and did the ride.  Pain left, felt fine so I dunno. Icing now as a precaution.

Good luck on everyone's injury issues.  In my IM-preparation life, I am getting used to the pain as a way to train mental toughness. My wife wouldn't want to see me cry

Nice job on the shuffle, Rob. I'd be tickled pink to look at my watch and see that time!

Scott, sounds like you have the tendonitis under control. That's great, and so quickly too.

KC, omg you made me laugh. I love the titles that come with the pictures. 'scene of the crash'. Laughing

Keith, we do a friday evening swim. 5:30 I believe.

Are you anywhere near Springfield?  There's a multisport club based out of there. http://www.cyclonautmultisport.com/content/articles/2/about/

Got a 10 mile run in yesterday, then today I went out for a 30 mile ride that turned into 40. SLOW ride though - ave 13.2mph Cry

After the ride, I went hiking. My hip flexors are a little cheesed off to say the least.

Edit to add.... OH no, not shin splints - they suck. You must have posted as I was typing this.

Dave - keep us up to date on the MRI won't you.

Yet again, 'The sickies' seems so appropriate. Frown

Nice job Rob.

What a great Masters - great golf - and Coach you are correct - what a shame for Rory.

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Good luck with the knee Coach. Have a great week everyone.

Court nice to see you back, hope that back heals quickly.

Deb, jellyfish are no fun to swim with those little suckers hurt.  We will keep our fingers crossed on the NYC mara.

The cost of races are getting out of control $200 for a half ($250ish for 70.3 branded) but as long as they sell out I guess its what the market dictates.  Heck our local races are approaching $100 for some.

KC what did you shoot on your 1st round of the year?  Any pull for getting me onto Augusta?? lol  I have a few friends that have played and they remind me every year how cool it is.  As for credit on the cleaning??? not sure on that one lol.  Your pictures are classic, glad your ok now we can laugh "with" you lol.

Scott, that is a great workout and the fact you still feel good is even better.  Were you able to do it outside or are you sticking to most rides indoors?

Sorry for 10 posts I have time to read all of them now so I'm catching up..

Great run Rob! what was your old PR?  That a nice 1st mile :-) I'm sure you legs/lungs loved it. lol

Nice run Deb 10, How is you body holding up?  Did you have the wind like we did in the midwest? Will do on the MRI results.  I would have it Monday but I am in the big town of Columbus oh for  training mon-wed.

I will say it stunk for Rory but it was probably one of the best golf finishes ever, even though I still don't know the guys name that won.. lol  My wife actually sat down and watched the end with me.

My previous PR, which was the first time I ever did an 8K was 48:53.  A key qualifier - I was just starting to get back into training after taking about a year off.

Deb - Yeah the Cyclonauts aren't to far from here.  They swim at the same pond that my frist tri will be held at, so I'm going to try to join them in May for a swim.  The only problem is they meet at something like 6AM.  That's early when I don't get to go to bed until 1AM, then have to deive 30 minutes there.  We'll have to see...

I've been reading that a lot of people are doing their hard intervals on the computrainers because of control, efficiency, safety, etc.  Makes real sense to me during the week so I don't have to rush out into the country, do the ride during rush hour commute to the smaller towns around here and then rush back to get to AA and spend time with Kathy.  Weekends, Saturday is a rough workout too.  Better on the CT.  The long rides will be outdoors on Sundays - when the wind drops below 40 mph gusts.  I simply refuse to fight that for no real reason. Unsafe, not fun.

First tri of the season is coming up Sunday.  Can't wait!  It's my wife's very first tri too so I'm excited about that.  I'd almost rather be cheering her on instead of racing.  I guess I'll have to finish fast so I can watch her Smile

Scott I'm with you on the wind.  It's been 20+ here for about the past week.  I'm really tired of it.  The thing that sucks about the wind is it doesn't end.  At least if you're climbing a hill there is a point where the hurting stops.
