Extreme Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas mountain_erin - 2011-05-06 8:34 AM irondreams - 2011-05-05 10:45 PM Trying to decide if I should splurge on a TYR swimskin - please convince me to either purchase or forget it. My plan it to wear my tri top and shorts for the swim otherwise. Thanks! Anne - you could be twins with me and Carlye (Although, I'm not sure if that helps or hurts here!) I got mine from The Tri Shop with something like and add'l 10% off (google for a coupon code) - I think I paid $190 for mine. It is not as much about the price as whether it will make any difference for me personally. I am trying to either convince myself that it will make the non-wetsuit swim better. Obviously "better" is hard to define in this case, but I guess I am looking for feedback from folks that have one on what it does for them. |

Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I opted against the speedsuit because I would think the time spent taking it off in T1 would negate the time it saved on the swim. Remember the time saved on the swim wearing a speedsuit isn't like the time you save wearing a wetsuit. A wetsuit can save you several minutes, it's very easy to remove and you're probably already wearing your bike-ready clothes underneath it. A speedsuit might save you a minute. That could mean something if you're vying for a Kona slot and that's assuming you can change out of it in less time than it saved on the swim. Do you think you can take off the speedsuit and put on another top in less than a minute while wet? De Soto does make a speedsuit that can be worn the entire race but the chamois pad is just like regular tri shorts so I wouldn't bike 112 miles in it. |

Those who purchased a Torque and tested out are averaging about 5 seconds per hundred. The other bump actually comes in transition (that's why I bought mine) as you can wear your outfit underneath and save a bunch of time in T1. In IMCOZ I think my T1 time was 2 minutes thanks to the torque. You're still right though, even a 3-4 minute bump is the concern of those trying to PR or get a slot. 3-4 minutes for those looking to finish isn't worth the money. |

I've been battling a foot injury since February, so running volume is very low. I've gotten long rides in, but still not enough total mileage. And I swim slowly. The run will have a lot of walking for me. If I am sub 15 hours, I'll be glad.
Same boat as you. Very little running due to achilles injury. Maybe see you on the walk??? |

New user 13 The Woodlands | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas spuphal - 2011-05-06 12:28 PMNot to freak anyone out, but please double check your reservations. I just received these TWO posts on my blog today from my post about what happened to me at the Marriott Residence Inn/The Woodlands: "Same thing happened to me at the Residence Inn on Lake Front Drive. I called yesterday just to make sure it was confirmed even though I had the email saying it was. When I call they said I had been bumped to the Marriott Courtyard next door. Normally it would not be a huge issue except we wanted the kitchenette to prepare our own food. I was told that Marriott Platinum members take precedence and they can bump anybody to make sure they have a room. It is 2 weeks before the race and I was never notified. SO I would have shown up that day with my ice chest full of food and nowhere to put it. AND I also had made my reservations a year a go!! While I am thankful to still have a hotel within walking distance that is a ridiculous policy they have. When I talked to corporate they just told me "Thats the way it is. It is just an unfortunate situation.""The same thing happened to me at the Hilton next door to that hotel you are talking about, the girl on the phone told me they are oversold by 40 rooms two days ago, and would only keep one of my 3 rooms i booked back in june too.when i asked her how something like that could happen she said everybody knew about the race before the hotels did and they could not put up rooms for the racers fast enough and the higher up hilton people booked reservations and pushed they rest of us out, gee thanks! now I am leaving some of my family home because there is no room for them to come along. " I mentioned this to my daughter who is a manager of an area hotel, and she tells me that if you have a guaranteed reservation then the hotel is obligated to honor it, although they can move you to a different hotel. These details should be written in the fine print of the reservation papers. |

Im going to freeze if this ends up being no-wetsuit. That's a joke right? I'm most looking forward to the sans-wetsuit swim. I'm more comfortable without one anyways. Just be glad you're not doing IMSG tomorrow - now that's a cold swim, wetsuit or not. |

I know hotels jack up proces on demand weekends, but it is unsettleing they are bumping people to jack the prices up. |

Just be glad you're not doing IMSG tomorrow - now that's a cold swim, wetsuit or not. Unfortunately not a joke. All of the lap swim times at my pool follow the arthritic class, and the Y caters to them. If the temp is below 85, they cancel the class. The pool is always above 85 and no ventilation. Basically, I am used to swimming in a hot tub that is in a sauna. |

I have been under 200 after some huge weekends, but end of the week I was back to 205ish. Your perfect race weight is the weight you are at your best race (I think that is how Matt Fitzgerald put it). |

My results were closer to 2 seconds per hundred, but even that was surprising to me. I was expectIng a small to unnoticeable difference in the water, but got a pleasant surprise. |

Maybe your store carries something that many would be willing to spend about 1/2 the trorque cost? Thanks!
