bridgeland - 2011-05-08 11:28 PM Need some reassurance. Below are this past weeks total:Week TotalsSwim  15950.00M 5hr 20m. Bike 128.57 Mi 7hr 05m. Str  1h. Super low volume with no running. Is this really bad? Will I lose lots of fitness? Longest ride this week was only 63 miles. I expect to start running a bit this coming week. Trying to fully heal. Can't say the same for my food volume though. Taping my month shut this coming week.

hey pedro during your taper you should still be doing some ironman pacing intervals, just not as much. your volume is reduced by 30-50%. However the quality is there.

Thanks for the backup gents (Ernesto, Andrew and William).  You get so used to all that volume that it freaks you out when you drop it so much.  If taper is this bad, I can only imagine how it will be after the IM.

I havent even looked  at recovery plans yet.  All this free time is crazy; the training for this beast gets addictive like a drugSmile.

The shaking might be because you leave your phone on vibrate

What is the deal with the swim practice Friday morning.  Is it just open to come and go as you wish?  Just an armband gets you in?

Oh, good conversation! What is everyone doing to calm their nerves POST-race? I personally have become a groupon-aholic. Thanks to groupon after May 21st I will be found skydiving, wake-boarding, rock-climbing, paint-balling, taking up bootcamp and going to a museum all on discount I also plan to learn to mountain bike.

Anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane with me on May 30th???

Hi, my name is Erin, I'm tapering and I'm addicted to groupon.

Erin - you will LOVE skydiving. Its awesome.

My recovery plan is something like this: Move into new house - this could be the week after IMTX (ie before the end of May) or sometime in June.  Depends on if we can find someone to rent the house we're in so we can break our lease.  Also: yard work on the new house and just generally getting it set up the way we'd like.

Then I owe my husband BIG TIME since I moved us to Colorado in December and then abandoned him for IM training.  We are going to do many, many, many brewery tours.  And I would also like to go camping at least 2x a month.

Swim question for anyone that has been in lake?

Is the conditions in Lake Woodlands as muddy as I envision.  I live in New Orleans and swim in Lake Pontchartrain (where your hand is barely visible in front of your face).  Are conditions somewhat similar in Lake Woodlands.  Would be nice to have a small sight line, but coming in with no expectations.  Thanks for any thoughts.

Starting to build our outdoor kitchen. We have been wanting to do this for years.Already hired the plumber to run the gas line. Have a concrete contractor coming to give us an estimate on pouring the pad. After that we are going to do the rest. Really looking forward to lots of relaxing time at home this summer

Starting a new job June 6th, learning to walk again after the race, then starting to train for IM AZ. Not much "free" time.

Skydiving is AWESOME. Love it. I'd love to go regularly and get my cert, but my last jump I had a parachute scare, a hard landing, then surgery a couple months later. So I don't know if I'll go again. We'll see.

Recovery plan? What the? I'm going Team Obese.

Kidding. Qualified for Nationals, so we're considering making a girl's road trip (my mom, daughter and me) to Vermont and then driving down the East Coast on the way back. That's in August, so I'll have to switch gears back to short course racing. Oh.. yay. Track intervals.

LOL!!!  Yes - But the good news is you are swimming in a very wide canal so here are some pointers:

1. When you breathe to the right make sure you see land;

2. If you veer to the right and end up on said land, veer back to left.

3. When you breathe to the left make sure you see buoys;

4. If you don't see said buoys and find yourself running into people going the other way, please calmly make your way to the right.

5. At the start you better you better seed yourself accordingly or prepare to get swam over in the washing machine.

On a side note, I see IM CDA has 119 pages. I'm not getting whipped in page count!!

PAD

IM CDA= 119 pages
IM TX= 96 pages

Difference: 23 pages
x 20 posts/ page

= 460 posts / 12 days

Need an average of 38 posts/ day

Conditions are similar to swimming in LA. Except your clothes probably won't be stained brown when you get out of the water. I ruined a tri suit (with a white back) at River Cities a few years ago.

Recovery plan? I've got to make it to race day first. One kid is leaving for China on the 19th and the other one is graduating from high school on the 27th. Between those dates I have a little Ironman race to complete. After that I plan on riding my road bike, swimming and running just for fun. Normally I take a month off from structured training after the race. After training for 2 IM"s within a year it is time for a break. We'll see how long it lasts!

At least you got to race your other IM! lol..I'm wearing shoes 24/7 these days. Breaking my toe 9 days out from the race was horrible. Crossing my fingers that I make it to race day in one piece this time!

Just some interesting info as we creep to 100 pages...

My wife did CB&I this past weekend, her race number, 945.

I am doing IMTX and my race number... 1945.

Pretty cool huh?

ebricker - 2011-05-09 10:01 AM Absolutely. You still need to watch your HR. 1+ swim, high temps, etc can raise your heart level in relation to your power output. Maintain your power level so long as your HR doesn't get above its high-level mark. I noticed this in IM Coz in 2009. High humidity had my HR higher than i expected based on my wattage goals. Settled with lower wattage in order to maintain HR level.

Ah yes, I was there in Cozumel in 2009 as well; which is what has me being wary regarding IM TX. Let's just say I had a worse overall time than my first IM in 2007 (IM FL); yet my percentile rank in the age group (and overall) was cut in half. This time I plan on monitoring my body a little better, and not sticking to any preconceived notion of what "fast" is if the day does not allow it.

Been a while since anyone mentioned FOOD around here (yes I'm hungry, aren't you?).

Anyone know what flavor powergels are going to be made available on race day? =) Please say strawberry banana...
