Well I am back - did a little training (hiking and walking) but saw awesome scenery and sometimes that is more therapeutic than training itself. Pictures to follow when I download them. BTW - Good Morning Ghoulies Good morning and WELCOME BACK Bill! Glad to hear you had a nice trip. Thanks Tom. I know Cali is crazy but you guys have some beautiful country - I hope you spoil yourself and go and see some of them while you are stationed there! The worst thing is that I turned orders down to Le Moyne NAS (Up by Sacramento) back in the day - I would have been living next door to Yosemite - stupid Bill!!!! That would be a great place to be stationed. The closest thing we have to Yosemite right now is either Lemoore NAS in Central CA or Fallon, NV NAS about an hour from Reno. Unfortunately my wife's health is currently making travel very difficult, but if/when she's feeling better Yosemite is definitely on my list of places we NEED to go. I'm really hoping that my next duty station will be Monterey, CA which will put Yosemite, Big Sur, Tahoe, and the Redwoods all within easy reach. That's it - I knew it was something like that but it was 20 years ago (man am I old or what!) Monterey is cool as well! The great thing about Monterey would be that I would be getting my Master's degree while I'm there. Not exactly wure what it would be in yet, but I'm leaning towards Human-Systems Integration or Operations Analysis (i.e. lots of math and statistics. Yay!). It all depends on how things go here in the next couple months. I'll be keeping all of you posted... Are you going to NPS? My brother in law was there just over a year ago. They lived in Marina while they were there. I love the Monterey, Carmel area. When I was out to visit them last summer I flew over wildfires that were burning in CA. We also drove past a few, including one that was right along the side of the road. It looked like it had just started, and they closed the road not long after we got through. I think only a few acres were burned. When we were sitting in the living room one evening we could smell the smoke from the fires, that was kind of eerie. Yeah, NPS is on my wish list for sure. That's basically the only way I'd be able to get stationed up there (at least for a while). Unfortunately the wildfires are just a part of life for most of coastal CA. We actually got evacuated from our neighborhood in 2007 and had to spend a couple nights at a friend's apartment in downtown SD. The glow on the horizon at night was really eerie indeed. |

I just need eggs, bread and veggies to keep myself fed. This is food run amok. That said, am looking forward to the pies. |

Well I am back - did a little training (hiking and walking) but saw awesome scenery and sometimes that is more therapeutic than training itself. Pictures to follow when I download them. BTW - Good Morning Ghoulies Welcome back! Hope you had a fantastic time!!! Without Jules here we have to fill all 100 pages by ourselves All I will say is that if I were single I would not have come back I'm happy to hear you had a great time, but we would have missed you if you hadn't come back. Thanks Ann - I would have had an annual Ghoulie Bash at Yosemite though - we could swim, run, ride, hike, and eat for 1 week - that would be awesome! Only once a year, come on, we could make that a spring and a fall event! Sounds good to me - I would move there (as I assume you have guessed) but have no problem going out there 2x a year for some training! I have the kids talked into going to AZ or NM with me. The husband absolutely refuses to leave the road we live on now. He has lived there his whole life, his family lives there, that is where he is staying. I keep telling the kids to go somewhere cool for college so I can move there with them My wife's family is all here and no one will leave (or even travel for the most part). They just don't know what they are missing! EXACTLY!!! My husbands family is the same way. They do go to NC for vacation, but they go to the same place every year, and the majority of the family goes together. There is a whole great big world out there, and I'd like to see it. That's why I signed up for a half marathon in AZ, I've never been there. My husband has asked me numberous times to just quit, or only sign up for local 5k's. We live in the middle of nowhere, all they have is 5k's. Even to travel an hour to Harrisburg for a marathon or a tri he thought was unreasonable. Yes, I do bang my head against a wall a lot. Does that explain anything? I have a headache My wife asked if I would take the family to Yosemite. I told her I would but she would be bored because she does not like to hike or really even camp. She told me there has to be something for people to do there that don't like that stuff. Not really. It is about getting out into nature and absorbing what it has to offer us. I should have been born 100 years ago! I'd have gone with you! I've never been to Yosemite and I love being outside. I've always said I'd rather mow the yard with fingernail clippers than to be inside doing housework. I want to go to Nashville in April for the HM, but I can't find anyone to go with me and I don't want to go alone. I'm just planning on running the Marine Corps Historic Half instead. I wouldn't have done well 100 years ago. The whole women's rights thing and all. When is the Nashville HM? I'll meet you there. Seriously, it is tough doing these on your own. It really helps to have a support network which is why BT is such a great forum. |

It really helps to have a support network which is why BT is such a great forum. The Nashville Rock N Roll marathon is April 24th I think. Do you really want to go? I think Katie was thinking about doing it, she's been busy though and hasn't been around. I know it's tough, a friend of mine went with me to my first triathlon last year. I am glad she did! It was only a sprint but I was beat. When we got back to her place I took a shower and a 2 hour nap. She drove home, too, which I was grateful for. When I asked another friend of mine to come along to AZ, I was thinking just for support, now she's running the HM with me and her husband is ground crew. He even gave my husband a hard time for not wanting to come along, which I thought was funny. |

Do you do that? or do you just throw it in the oven and hope for the best? |
