G'night Melindy.  It's late and I am driving carpool to the Y for masters swim in the morning.  Wheels rolling at 5am.  Ugghh. If it weren't for peer pressure I'd probably never swim.

So...

The bad news is: my project isn't turning out like it should be turning out. The good news is: I think my supervisor feels bad for me because stuff beyond my control keeps happening and I'm getting increasingly frustrated...He told me I have a 4 day weekend. Woohoo (Its Canada Day anyways on Thurs...but I get Fri off too!) YAH!

Now...what to do, what to do??? Undecided

Ideas? (I cannot be left to my own devices...and I'm alone...Apparently I did not think through my lack of social excursions in the past 8 weeks...what can you do alone for 4 days...read?...a lot?)

First of all, sorry the project is being difficult. Wait until you have human patients.  They are worse than rats.

A 4 day weekend???? Yeah!!!!  I'm always good for a hunker down book/movie/paint the toenails marathon, but it is summer after all.  And 4 days is a long time to sit solo. You're in Victoria BC right now, correct?  How about some sea kayaking? hiking? You might even meet some interesting peeps along the way.

Thanks. I'm getting really good at microsurgery but science is unfortunately not about that...I guess it is good that I have chosen medicine and not science. I will not be an MD/PhD.

I'm currently debating between going to Vancouver, Seattle...back home...somewhere..I don't know...hmmmmm...I'm prob going to end up doing nothing...Undecided

Well, don't sweat that one. Most All of the MD/PhD's I know are total pains in the A$$.  A really good clinician is worth their weight in gold.  Follow your strengths and your heart.

Ok, if you really wind up doing NOTHING for the weekend, PM me where to send the DVDs.  I have every season of Sex and the City.

Ya, my supervisor in Edmonton is an MD/PhD. He truly is an amazing physician and researcher, but I think he spreads himself too thin. Its a lot to have to balance and I don't really think it is possible for everyone. And I don't want to just work and be in school forever. And if you do that, you are stuck in work and school forever...I think I'm more likely to be a Fellow, if I feel it is necessary to continue education...but by 3rd yr residency, I might just want to end it. Haha.

I had a clinical preceptor this year who said "you just can't do it all, something, somewhere down the line needs to give" and that "ultimately it doesn't matter what you do, in 10 yrs it will be a job and you need to have a life outside of that". In fact, she sat me down at one point and told me to make sure I got out and did stuff with my classmates more because she was worried that all I did was study and train...which okay...might be true. And my lack of social options this weekend might be supported by that assertation...My daily regime seems to follow train--lab--train--sleep.

And now I'm having a pity party! Yaaaaa!!! Lalalala.

My friend is trying to convince me to go home. Flights are stupid expensive though because of Canada Day/July 4.

Sigh...

In my effort to get out of pity party mode, I have come up with a few possibilities:

1) Go to the beach and read some wholeheartedly trashy novel(s) in the attempt to get rid of my ridiculous tan lines
2) Go rent "True Bloods", which I have heard is a ridiculously, trashy, yet awesome series about horny vampires
3) Go to watch the new twilight movie by myself admist the ridiculous hoard of 13yr old girls, because I don't know any 13yr old girls in Victoria, but it is one of my guilty pleasures (yes, I know Sealed)
4) Go rent Scrubs
5) Go shopping...because we all know I need to spend more money...but maybe I just need to go shopping for fun stuff...like fun stuff that isn't tri stuff...hmm...haha...

hmmm...I wonder what else I can think of...

Note to self: I can not tolerate social isolation for extended periods of time..

(look at all the interesting things I am learning about myself this summer)

I have a friend who is trying to hook me up with a job in New Jersey as a Systems Administrator, which is what I want to do. The beauty of it is... I CAN WORK FROM HOME!

More money+job I want to do+less travel=HAPPY ANN

AND...

If I get this job we will also be getting a Great Dane puppy. My niece bred her Great Dane and they have 2 week old puppies. Cross your fingers and toes everyone!

Oh wow, Ann!  That sounds great!  Definitely sending you good job vibes!!

Thanks Dee!

What's going on in your neck of the woods?

Mild training   --   Steady but slightly slow work   --   Busy rest of life (helping hubby with car show details, training puppy, etc.)

Also I am losing weight!  Overall I have lost 9 - 10 pounds since the first of the year.  Double if you count the pounds I gained on vacations and then lost again!  Hubby has lost about 20 - 25 pounds.  We are both just over 1/2 way to our goals.

Yeah for weight loss!!!! I read this weekend that your run pace will increase 2 sec per  mile for every pound you lose.  Plus, it helps getting into the skinny jeans.

I have been reading a book by Matt Fitzgerald called "Racing Weight. Good reading. He talks about what your ideal weight should be, and the body build you have/should have depending on which endurance sport you do. Theres even some recipes in the end opf the book. (I;ll let you kno wif they're any good once I get there). As o now, I am down all of 0.2 pounds! LOL, more to come I hope.

So you disappear for how many weeks then you just jump right in here into the middle of the converstation without so much as a hi my brotha's and sista's?

Hi Amy!

What was that you said, Ann? You missed me? Awwwww. Shucks. I missed you too.

Hi my brotha's and sista's!

(is that better?

So one quick question before I head to bed...
Melindy--what does PAM stand for? I know it was in some pages I missed in the last few weeks--but finding it would be like finding a needle in a haystack!

Physically active machine=PAM

One of my friends asked me for a side profile picture to use as an example for lifestyle presentations in high schools in Edmonton. He said it was because I was a physically active machine...haha

I'm the same way. I rarely do anything by myself, really.  Maybe that's hwy my hubby thinks all I do is socialize all the time, LOL. I am socialising...just in a hard-working kinda way.
