New user 59 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! ALRIGHT So I joined the LA Tri Club this past week because I decided I want a training partner. It looks like they also do some regular group rides and beginner ocean swims, so I am psyched to try those as well. Had a long swim yesterday, was not that great on the time (no idea why), but I guess it will all work out in the end. Went on a nice bike ride this morning for just shy of an hour and will be updating my log. Congrats on registering for an Iron Man!!! One day maybe...just too much going on with the wedding only 4(aiyeeeeeee) months away for me to plan anything else. I do need to plan our honeymoon too...any recommendations? |

Somewhere you can afford to go without a huge debt that you'll still be paying on at your 10th anniversary. Somewhere warm enough to wear flipflops and skimpy bathing suits (personal preference there) BTW, this isn't a thread crasher, it's sandert with a newer, cooler screen name |

Veteran 166 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! I agree with Stepen, somewhere where you both want to go. More where she wants. After 22 years, I've learned to give on the front end. It's easier to ask, and receive, on the tail end. Congratulations, and keep us posted! |

How are you all doing? have a crazy day x Dang man! I'd be happy with a 43:xx on a flat course. That is great!! The reason I go long is I don't go very fast. Getting a little faster, but very slowly. I had a great day y'day, 50 mile bike in the morning. I was planning on 13 run in the evening, but I ran out of gas and only got 11 done. It was in the upper 90's, so I'll chalk that up to weather. This was my longest week b4 my HIM in early June. I did 13 or 14 several times in the past month, so I will be ok for the run distance. Have a great one and don't forget your Mom's. Stephen |

Regular 74 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! That's pretty good going buddy, you must be feeling fit. It was my fave race of the year in a small town called Beverley, big crowds towards the finish and my family to cheer me on, fantastic feeling! Have a crazy day! x |

New user 59 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! wow, you two have destroyed the rest of us! I had a bad week due to my fiancee finishing finals last week, but it is just a lame excuse. Anyway, once again, last few weeks before my first sprint tri, nothing major and the distances seem a LOT less scarey now than they did back in feb |

Extreme Veteran 432 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! Only 3 Days, 22 Hours, 26 Minutes till my first HIM. nervous and excited, but I feel ready. Did an OWS at a nearby lake in my new wetsuit (tho the water was warm enough, no wetsuit was really needed). I guess this round of mentoring is over, and I would like to thank Matchman for being our mentor. Tom, it was good to get your feedback as I jumped into this crazy tri-world. I also want to thank the rest of you guys, your feedback and encouragement means a lot to me. It is hard sometimes with a lot of people (friends, coworkers and family) who, while they are supportive, can't relate to 6-7+ workouts per week, much less long runs of 10+ miles or 50 mile bike rides. I will drop in once in a while to see what your workouts look like. I may give you a kick in the rear to try and motivate you to get out the door and enjoy this wild world of triathlons. Feel free to drop in and comment on my workouts. I am keeping my BT workout log up to date (along with my Access database, but no one else can see that) so feel free to comment on how much (or little) I am doing. Expect to see some big numbers there as I have signed up for IMAZ 2008, so I have about 10 months to get Iron-ready. Hope all is well. Give a shout out and let us know how things are going for you. Extreme Veteran 432 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! Well, I finished my first HIM. Total time was just over 7hr 9 min. 19th out of 19 in AG. Not DFL overall, but still would have been nice to not be last. Oh well, DFL>DNF>DNS Here is the short version: Good things: - finished the swim in 10th place (AG) of 19 finishers - finished the bike faster than I had feared worst case (by 30 min) Bad things: - Slowest HM I've ever run - almost 3 hours (ok, only HM in a triathlon, but still) - sunburn (I used sunscreen, but should have reapplied in each transition) Overall, I am happy, especially since I know I can do better the next time. The long version (with pictures) if you are interested http://andertfamily.net/20070602DeucesWild.aspx |

New user 59 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! congrats! Ok, I know I have been bad about updating my training log, but on Sunday (June 10th), I finished my first sprint tri! 800m swim (half mile) 6 mile bike 2 mile run Time - 1hr 4m 36s I was a little disappointed with the time but I think I need more swim time to really be competitive. Thanks for the help all and good luck! |

PJOinSM - 2007-06-12 1:45 PM Ok, I know I have been bad about updating my training log, but on Sunday (June 10th), I finished my first sprint tri! 800m swim (half mile) 6 mile bike 2 mile run Time - 1hr 4m 36s I was a little disappointed with the time but I think I need more swim time to really be competitive. Thanks for the help all and good luck! Hey, that is a great time! My first sprint was 10 mile bike and 2.2 mile run and I was a looooot slower. I found it helpful to look at my standings in my age group for each event to see which is my strongest event. After 2 races, it turns out my swim is my best event and my bike and run need the most work. I am planning on reducing my swims to probably 1 hr with the Masters group and 45 min (or so) of OWS instead of 3 hrs of Masters each week. Some weeks I will do 2 Masters and skip OWS ('cause it is a long drive for me), but that frees up more time to add a bike or run (or bike/run brick). Keep up the good work. |

I've been looking at our group and as of a week or so ago, it looks like Matchman is not logging while on vacation and no one else seems to still be awake (no recent logged activity or response to a "knock, knock" I put in their "Inspire Me" sections. You do any races recently? I did San Francisco Marathon 7/29. A new PR by about 21 min for me in 4:28:50, so I was happy, but my legs were dead by the end. Some ugly hills at the end of that race. Downhills were hurting my knees (and my knees NEVER hurt). I'm planning an Oly Tri in Mexico in Oct and probably another HIM or Oly in either late Sept or late Oct. I don't recall if I announced this in our group, but I am registered for IMAZ next April. |

New user 59 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! hey guys, I was sick all last week with a nasty flu, so no working out. I am doing the LA Triathlon Sept 9th a week after I get married, so life has been busy for me. No races since June, I think after LA I am doing another Sprint in October and then who knows after that, I would like to try an Oly before the year's end, just need to get my swimming a LOT better. |

Regular 74 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! Hi guys great to hear from you, been a while! Stephen, wow, that was great going well done, hope your knees are ok! Pete congrats on the wedding and go easy on the honeymoon stuff! Lol I’ve had a real ‘tick over’ year sadly not done any triathlon been running pretty well. Got my half marathon down to 1hr 45 and been doing regular 10ks in just under 44 mins. The weather this summer has been the worse on record here, we’ve had horrendous flooding around the area and my bike rides have been few and far between. Next race is a half marathon in October and that will close the season off. My intention then is to get some swim coaching (not been going well) and hit the new year with a bang and really get into the tri scene. Lets keep chatting guys! Have a crazy day! |

Got my half marathon down to 1hr 45 and been doing regular 10ks in just under 44 mins. My intention then is to get some swim coaching (not been going well) and hit the new year with a bang and really get into the tri scene. Thanks, my knees recovered quickly, they were just in pain on the steep downhills and that made me slow down more than I wanted to. I'm jealous of your HM time and your 10k's are blazing. I'm hoping my next HM is 1:55 or better (PR is 2:03) and my next 10k is 50-55 or so (PR is 59:xx). I don't race much as the closest races to me are usually 45 min or more away so I don't like spending that much time in the car for a race that will be less than 1 hr (10k) or less than 30 min (5k). Wish you could send some of that rain this way. Things around here have been pretty dry (but Arizona is in the middle of a desert). Next on my schedule is an 8 mile running race in Sept, a tri in Mexico in Oct (I think I'm doing the Olympic), probably a 5k/10k (same day) and a HM before the end of the year. A full marathon in Jan as my final pre-IM race. Maybe a HM or a sprint tri in Feb/Mar just as a tuneup for IMAZ in April. Then, transition to a maintenance plan for the summer (too hot here for this crazy training I've been doing this summer) trying to keep it around 10 hours/week or so with nothing over 90-120 min on the weekends. So guys, what are your goals? I think mine officially prove that I am crazy: My 2008 goal is to finish an IM. My 2009 goal is to qualify for Boston. I need to take a bit over 1 hr off my PR to do this, so that is an aggressive goal. My 2010 goal is to qualify for Kona IM. If I meed 2009 goal, this should be a bit easier. |

I am psyched for the big day though. I think my rest of year goals are as follows: LA Tri Hermosa Sprint Find a race for Nov/Dec Learn how to swim properly in the offseason Sometime early 2008 - First Olympic Do Oly and Sprint for part of 2008 HIM or long course tri end of summer 2008 IM 2009 Wow, 2 years of planning haha |

Next planned race is Bridlington Half Marathon in October, got a holiday at Disney in Paris to survive next week first. In terms of triathlon I've got to focus on getting my swimming sorted which I will do in the off season and provisional goals: 2008 - Sprint (poss Olympic) 2009 - Olympic (poss 1/2 IM) 2010 - We'll have to see! Extreme Veteran 432 | Subject: RE: Matchman's Group - FULL! Well, it's been awhile, but was wondering how the rest of the team is doing? Taking it easy for the holidays? Well, I ran the Las Vegas marathon. Came close enough to my goal of breaking 4 hours (4:00:18) that I am happy. I mean it is a 28+ minute PR over San Francisco in July, so that is some good improvement. It was also my 4th marathon in about 14 months. 4 states down, 46 to go. I slipped a couple of easy weeks in after the marathon because I was just not feeling 100% and was always tired. It seems to have helped. I am registered for PF Chang's HM in Jan where I should be able to break 1:50 and am secretly hoping for 1:45. Will have to see how that plays out. Well, hoping some of you still check in here and say "hi" or "cheerio" and shout what you are up to these days. |
