Still here. I hate to say it but I’ve done little to nothing lately because of life. COVID, races cancelled, father in law is coming to live with us (congestion heart failure / possible surgery), and the list continues. We all have life issues and it is not an excuse but I have realized what my number 1 issues is, no races. I use races to motivate and keep myself going. Yes some times I cram for them but I still do way more when they are on the horizon. I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

Web it looks like the postponement has worked out for you and you have used it to your advantage. Keep it up, I’m sure you will get your PR’s.

Just noticed that it switched me again to a different person with the same name.

Just got notification that my first race is cancelled. I have auto entry for next year. Also, the one that got moved to August is apparently still up in the air.

This may well end up a training year

Rick...sorry to hear about the cancellation. The sports outfit that organizes some of the sprints I’ve done moved things to August. I’ll have to see how my old body feels closer to the time of the events if they occur....maybe????

Regardless....training is good for us!

At least most are honoring it and providing entry into next years race. That said I feel sorry for those that put in the work to get ready, especially if it is their first triathlon. I think they also know that it’s likely that less than 50% will be there the next year, but still nice that it is offered.

There's truth in that... If anything, I BS'd around with training up until recently. I'm doing better, but taking a year (however unwilling) may end up being a blessing

Our gym’s pools will open Monday for lap swims; 1 person per lane; have to set an appointment. I’ve scheduled 5 sessions already. My last swim was 3/16....so 3 months! Wow! Will be like starting all over....looking forward to getting back in the water. Pool where I swim outside in the summer will not open for the season....

Hi Turtles,

Just a short note to check in.

Not much happening here due to the obvious and winter arriving.

I attended a few outdoor gym sessions that were enjoyable and I managed to work up a sweat. Unfortunately my hip is not 100%. I'm not experiencing any pain but running seems to aggravate it so I've stopped running and I'm concentrating on diet, weight loss, physio and home gym training until I lose some weight and reduce the stress on my joints. I feel that this summer maybe my last full season and I plan to do 2-3 races each following season so I want to get my body right for summer.

Hope you're all staying active and enjoying life.

Got a swim in this morning; could definitely feel the layoff; shoulders tired after a few hundred yards. Will be curious to see how I feel in the am. Scheduled for a Wednesday am swim.

Rod...take care of the hips!!

Our pool is back open but only by appointment in 1 hour blocks and you have to been in and out of the building within that hour. Every other lane is closed to ensure spacing. I went to sign up one day after it open and all the times I would normally swim were booked. I’ll check it the next time they post the 2 week block because not having to share a lane is something I’m looking forward to.

We call those "mystery pounds" Corona Kilograms

"Corona Kilograms"... I like that!

Funny thing happened last night. I got on the Mighty Mite site (July Race) checking on delays/cancellations, and I noticed that there are only 24 signed up at this point. I click to see who they are, and there's something missing: MY name!

Apparently with all the Covid issues, I neglected to even sign up for it *facepalm*. Oh well! I'm not about to do it now... that's for sure.

Subject: Turtle Challenge: July 2020
Hi Turtles,

It seems that we're all very goal focused people. Many of our goals are race or PB oriented and with races being cancelled it is easy to lose focus and train without intensity or train without purpose.

I suggest the following Group Challenge to help get some focus back:

1. Complete 31 training sessions in July. That averages 1 session a day for the month but you can do multiple sessions on a single day if you wish or need to catch up if you skip a day. Each session is to be a minimum of 20 minutes and the intensity is up to you but it would be good to work up a sweat.

2. Report back to the group weekly

3. Smile while you're training . (See below)

Who's in?

I’m in Rod!

Our gym opened today; first lifting session in 3+ months; even though I dropped weight and a few reps, still feeling it. Went to lift shortly after my swim.

Pool is cutting back on the time you can have in the water to :45 minutes; I’ve gotta find a way to get in an additional 300 yards in that 45 minutes to get my 2000 yard goal.....uh, maybe swim faster?????

How are you?

My gym reopened last week and had 4 sessions. 5 sessions including a swim (45 mins) planned this week. It felt really good to be back at the gym and catching up with others. I'm working on losing weight and strengthening my body. After a few discussions with one of the trainers at the gym I'm aiming to lose 2lbs a week. It doesn't seem like much but the idea is to lose a small amount each week and keep it off. I'm on a high protein / low carb diet and my body fat is reducing at a good rate.

My mental health has improved too as I was getting "cabin fever" while social distancing / isolating.

I'm impressed with your 2000 yard goal. You've inspired me to set some swimming goals for myself. It's always been about "surviving the swim" but I intend to aim higher than that now.

Look forward to your first update.

I'm assuming weight room work counts, yes?

Suffered thru 24mi on the bike today. Got a list of things I gotta fix now.

Weight room definitely counts. Any exercise / movement.

Good bike ride too. Is that things on the bike you have to fix or fix your technique?

To be excruciatingly honest... both. The drive train (aka: legs), is fine, but the engine needs an overhaul.

As far as the bike... The front wheel bearings is started grinding a bit & the rear bearings have excessive play too. I need a couple of tubes as I'm used my last one a couple of weeks ago. Need brake pads as mine have hardened. I have cable issues with the front derailleur, so I was stuck on the big ring for the whole ride. I cant find my lights . I could also use a new seat.

I've got 3000-4000 miles on my WalMart special. Time to upgrade soon... maybe get a last year model deal in Jan.

Hi Turtles,

Week 1 Challenge Update: I've had 6 workouts so far this month, 2 runs (walks really) and 4 gym sessions.

We've been placed in lock down again and our gym / pool closed today so I need to revisit my training plan.

Hope all is well with everybody.

I'm sitting at 4/7. I'm using the lot at work to get some walking in... feet are still so dry & cracked that running is not going to happen for a bit. I was supposed to hit the Y to swim yesterday, but I forgot my dang towel. Not happy with myself with that one. I am scheduled for Tomorrow at 1300hrs.

My plan is like this:
Swim: Tu & Thu @ 1300hrs at the Y (there are things I really like about my job).
Bike: Spin on exercycle 2-3x/week, and head out for a longer ride on the weekend
Run/Walk: Around the lot @ work 3-4x/week, and a longer session on the weekend.
Weights: Need to figure out where to fit this in...

With this schedule, I should hit 40 for the month... Now let us see if I can pull it off.

So...for the first 4 days of July (7/1-7/5) I was able to get in 1 swim session [the pool was closed on 7/3]; 2 strength sessions [first ones since the reopen and really felt the layoff]; 4 walks of 4 miles each.

For a total of 7 “training sessions”....

Pool goes to :45 minute swim times next week; coming up short of my 2K goal in that time; I swam really hard Monday and was still a couple hundred yards shy. A new goal to shoot for!!!

Rod, another “lockdown” for you...ugh; hopefully it’s just for a brief time....

Hehehe... falling behind a touch... I'm sitting at 9/13, but it'll be 10 before I head home.

I didn't get any training done this weekend. I did get lots of sauna time tho.... By sauna I mean I was up in our 110 degree bonus room wearing a tyvek suit and breather while shooting spray foam insulation. Lots of sweat is an understatement. The roadie is down for the count as well.due to the bearing issue. I'll get my seat and cateye switched over to my Mt Bike since it has slicks... Hopefully get some real mileage this weekend.
