geauxtri - 2009-07-05 2:22 AM Amatuer Cycling confusion....
Please clear....

They keep talking about riders (ie Dave, just now)  being on both large rings...
Wouldn't that be cross chaining?
I know for me as an extreme and with mid-line components, that would be near death of derailling.

Am I missing something?

In your Big Ring at the front... you *should* be able toride the smaller gears at the back...

that's exactly how I ride 80% of the time... my friends constantly accuse me of "mashing it out" .  But with my oak tree legs I can hack it out with no prob... I think maybe my legs are built for cycling...
The ONLY time I ever use my small cog on front is on med-big hills.

Mashing... you could be...

Are you spinning your legs? Or forcing down on the pedals... do you spin around or push down/up....

Hard to tel without seeing it... but just because its a big gear it doesnt mean you are mashing.... there is more toit than that!

There are times I mash... I think up/down (get to work hammies)
Then there are times I spin... I think forward motion and let my toes get forward and try to think "run" it out...
I mash on small declines and flats to build... I "spin" on uphills to *try* not to burn out and keep it non-aggressive.... and obviously, yes I MASH and MASH hard when the hills are short and steep...

I got a climbing (seated) lesson from CG... basically its put the hand on the flats... so you can pushtraigtht against the bars as you ride if needed..

Bend in the elbows, core locked on.,... then turn the legs over... alway go 5 more strokes than you think you need over the crest.. ost people stop putting the effort in just before they should so you gain time there...

As long as they support one another and don't get too aggressive amongst one another, it should be a success.

I have one question. CHR15, why Grabsh? In no way demeaning that pick.

Oh come on... World TT Champion....

Even I can defend that pick! lol!

I've said before that I know nothing about who the T/Ting specialists are, apart from the obvious few. And Grabsch isn't obvious to me. See why I have to research my picks for ITT's Wait for the mountains.

I VAGUELY remember that coverage, as that it was before I was into all this... but didn't that team also didn't a lot of members of that team get a bad rap for doping (or at least rumors thereof)?

Oh come on. Surely you've hit your max HR. What do you do, scream?

chewing handlebar tape -- (Brit./Wirral) This occurs when you are suffering so much that you find yourself head down over the handlebars and you are chewing the tape on your handlebars (in the vain hope, I think, that you might find some energy from it.) Usage: "When we got to the climb I was chewing my handle bar tape".

Not that year... but later on yes...

At the time they were the strongest team on paper with Ullrich, Vino, Kloden etc

Yep... posted how he rode with Kreuziger's dad... kind of funny, he's definitely the "gramps" of this race.
