where in New Mexico? I used to live in Quemado (big whopping town of maybe 35 ppl), Cloudcroft (elevation 8000 - gorgeous part of New Mexico), Grants and Gallup...was on a seismograph crew years ago back in the day when oil and gas was being searched for regularly...and I lived in forty of the fifty states! I now reside in Northern California..San Francisco Bay area.

I live in Rio Rancho, just north of Albuquerque and love it here. High desert, long open roads, hot days, warm evenings, cool nights and over 300 days of sunshine and about an hours drive to get to snow during the winter.....what more could you ask for. Coming from Scotland to NM was definitely a shock to the system, but after 3 years I am so used to it I can't imagine ever going back.

I agree about Cloudcroft. That is one of the most beautiful places I have been in NM and I am sure if you were training at 8000ft elevation it definitely made a difference when  you go back to sea level eh?

Sounds like you must be a fountain of knowledge about living just about anywhere in this country with all your moving and travelling.

I may be heading to Northern CA in late July so maybe I will have to hit you up for a few ideas of places to go since I have never been there before.

definitely need to hit me up for info....I used to be an event planner in San Francisco and can give you tons of great spots to visit that many people even that live there have no idea are there! and as for information on other states...ask away!!!

Oh crap.....I just wrote a big long reply and didn't answer any of the questions folks have asked so far in the thread.....so here goes....

I am originally from Scotland too, just like Triathlynne, and I now live in the sunny desert of New Mexico.

Favorite ice cream is probably.....hmmmmm.......any cold one.......and there is a Cold Stone about a 5 min walk from my work and that new peppermint patty one sounds good.

...looks like I might get both fitter and fatter this month on this team with all the food talk....

Just did my first tri last month and am training for an Oly in Sept with several other tri's and runs between now and then

I am married with 4 kids and a 5th on the way (I can't believe it either, but there you go)and come from a background of sitting around eating my wife's wonderful cooking and watching good movies....but all that has changed in the last 6 months.

And the way the post rate is going here I am sure we will all find out more about each other, weather we want to or not,  during this month

Hey Kenny!  I love coldstone! Oh goodness! And when you tip them! They dance! hahahhaha I love it.

So how long have you been in the States and what part of Scotland do you hail from?

I have a ColdStone within walking distance of my house. Thankfully I'm not a huge fan of spending more on ice cream than I am on gas!

come on....who needs gas...don't you bike everywhere!!?? and cold stone is the absolute KING of ice creams! mmmmmmmmmmm me want ice cream!

Yeah, I bike everywhere...with my 9 yr old and 2 year old....SURE.....in DC traffic....uh huh....

Did somebody say that Nutella is healthier that peanut butter?

I do not have a label to look at.

THat trip to the store to pick up a jar or 4 is getting well into the planning stage now based on this team's inputs.

How about Nutella on top of vanilla ice cream?????....anyone tried it??????

That is all I can think of now as I am sat in a meeting at work about 20 mins before lunchtime......

I didn't say Nutella was HEALTHIER but it does have less calories!

really...that is very surprising to me! Heck, you may be able to tempt me to try it again....the key word being "may"

designated daughter....sounds like you have one or two of them two! unless your wife has granted you only ds's...designated sons

I currently have 2 ds's and 2 dd's so whatever #5 is I don't mind.......healthy and happy will suit me

when is number 5 due?

Number 5 is not due till December, so still have a while to wait. Unfortunately this means my wife will be pregnant right thru the summer, which is real hot here, and she ain't looking forward to it.

It's the strikethrough feature.

Um, I do it using < strike > (but without any spaces). If you're using the Rich Text Editor (ie: you see little icons up top), there should be a button for it.

(I don't use the buttons, because it slows down the page loading, which means that Beth can outpost me by a factor of like 200000 posts to my one...)

omigosh! it took me forever to catch up!! LOL i thought i was chatty, and here i haven't said a word in three pages!!
i went and did a biathlon with my niece today, her PE class did it (actually it was 4th through 8th grade) she did great, and it was nice to be able to keep up without having to actually work that hard. lazy sounding of me i totally know. anyway, it was an 8 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile run. she did really great. i think the whole thing took right around 2 hours. (she's only 10, and well, being my brother's daughter, without sounding mean, she's overweight) anyway, between that and the race i did with lynne on monday, i feel all raced out
i DID narrow the bike thing down to two-opinions please the first one is a chick bike (what's the difference other than saddle, and the girly color? i don't know) anyway, it's called a windsor willow, (it's brand new, but it's a 2007, so it's discounted) the second one is a 2008 dawes lightning 1500 this is the one my dh thinks i should get, but it's about $100 more than the chick bike. the lightning has aero bars and clip pedals, the chick bike doesn't, but i'm actually a teensy bit frightened of these things. i'm actually kind of clumsy, and i know i'm going to be making out with the pavement. (yeah, steve, i said making out, and i meant with tounge and everything )
anyway, whatever imput you fellow TNT-ers have is appreciated.

Friday Night????? What is that????? I am stuck in the live action Ground Hog Day. I have not figured out what day is it though. Possibly a Tuesday sounds good; not the pain of a Monday but not quite the fun of a Friday.

Yummmm ..... Cold Stone icecream ..... Pavlov's dogs have nothing on me

I wish I would have video taped my make out session two weeks ago. It was totally crazy. It kinda went like this:

Me (to the girl on the side of the path with two "helpers"): Are you guys okay?
Group: Yes, we're good
Me: Great, have a good day
Group: Thanks, you too.
Me (in my mind): Oh, here comes a hill - I better down shift
Me: Oops, my chain fell off
Me (in my mind): I better get off the bike and fix my chain
Me: Oops...I'm still clipped in....
Visual: slow-motion falling into a gravel trail!

  • ..minutes later...

  • Group: are YOU okay?
Me: 'eh...it's just a flesh wound!

Yeah, but other cyclists understand. You'll be really happy you purchased the bike with the clips when it's all said and done. You'll get used to them quickly and will love them! I do.
