Wow - lots going on in this group!

Erik - congrats on your race!  Glad you had fun and did well.

Diane - awesome swim meet!  I've never done one but I've used our town pool during a meet and they always seem fun.  Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Typically, for a sprint (Sunday race), I'll take off Monday.  Maybe a short swim on Tuesday.  Run and maybe swim on Wednesday, Bike on Thursday (either outside or trainer).  Friday is another off day with a super-short brick on Saturday (20 bike/10 run).  It's kind of the same schedule that I do for a taper.  After an Olympic, I need about 2 days off, then start back with swim.

Erik, nice victory pic - It's nice to know you're not actually a little green man with wavy arms...LOL Good luck again with the upcoming race. Hope you're still smiling at the end of that one too.

Pattie - I hope your feet are better for the weekend. Maybe a soak and a really good moisturizer. It's hard to train and stay off your feet!

BTW - you'll notice I've changed my pic, so I am no longer livestock!...That orange creature is my golden, Leo. That was taken in April at the 5K walk for cancer. You can tell it's early in the season, as I am glowing white!

Pattie - how long is the mentor group supposed to last. I trust we will all keep in touch via the training logs, etc.

So, I googled this "phenomenon" about the bruising on my inner arms and found that this happens to weightlifters, apparently burst capillaries from pumping. I also found another post where it happened to a girl after swimming. I presume I'm using my muscles in an unfamiliar way and it's no biggie. It actually only happened to my left arm yesterday. I'm hoping it'll just stop after I'm accustomed to swimming. If it doesn't go away I'll talk to my doc.

I'm glad it's nothing serious!

But in our defense, we were only joking when we said to swim your arms off!

So much for buying a wetsuit or a sweet, sweet road bike.

We bought a boat instead.  I'm guessing my wife's thinking is that if the water is so cold to need a wetsuit, why don't we just stay ABOVE it?

Maybe I can make some sort of harness to pull the boat... some kind of resistance training during OWS!

Way to go, Erik!  Can't wait to read about it.

Just 3 more days of school left.  Yay!  I'll write up my race report sometime tomorrow.  Have a great week, everyone!

haha!!

Now that I have a couple of triathlons completed, I find myself trying to find races to fill my other Sunday mornings, too.
I have a series near me that would include races on the 21st and 28th that I am seriously considering!!

Is this normal?

Erik,  I think the fact that you're a triathlete already makes you NOT normal!  So, is it normal? Hell No... is it normal for a triathlete... probably... Enjoy the races

Here are some pics of my last race... another BT-Michigan friend forwarded them on to me

Ann Arbor Tri 2009

If you move your head from right to left while looking at them, it makes me look FASTER!

^^  I know... it made me speechless, too!  Laughing

So... what is everyone's upcoming weekend/next week look like?

Saturday is a day-trip to Chicago with family.
I'm hoping to ramp up some miles on my bike (hopefully on Sunday)

Next week is continuing to live the dream!  Kids are out of school and in day-camp.
I'm debating signing up for a SPRINT series that would include races on the 21st and 28th of June.

Family will be in town next weekend (for Father's Day), so I don't know if it will be too much to try to do while company is over.  Plus... I don't know if there is any interest for family to come and watch.  We'll see.

Busy Busy Busy weekend for me...Work Roast of the graduating residents tonight, farmers market and packet pick-up followed by Kenny Chesney Concert on Saturday, Triathlon followed by Charity benefit dinner on Sunday!  I am going to need a weekend from my weekend!

What are you doing in Chicago tomorrow?  The weather here is looking just so so...rain in the morning then clearing as the afternoon goes on...but only a high of 70 degrees or so

If your family is at all like mine they love to come and watch me make a fool of myself at races (running and the one previous tri I have done)  so I say go for it...besides it is your day isn't it and you should get to have some fun too!

Good luck this weekend, Katie!!!!

My parents bought a Segway tour of Chicago for each of us kids + spouses.  They're going to be (baby)sitting all the kids while we buzz around the windy city!

As far as my potential races... I think I'm going to sign up.  Best case:  I'll have a decent cheering section... worst case:  I'll be back fairly early, so I'll still have plenty of time to visit and go for a boat-ride.

The tour sounds like fun...I have seen them around but never done one.

Whew!  School is finally over!  Bring on summer!

Erik, that tri series sounds great!  Go for it.  Our tri club does weekly practice tris in the summer and I'll do several of those.  They are pretty short (400yd, 7.5m, 2m), but great for transition practice.  I need lots of transition practice.  The one on July 30 is a double; SBRx2.

Now that I'm free from school, I can really concentrate on training and keeping up with farm work.  Anyone have specific goals for the summer that they can share?  Anything you want to work on or improve?

My main focus for now is going to be bike bike bike.  Matter of fact, I'm going to hop on my trainer for about an hour in just a few minutes

Hope the race went well, Katie (I haven't yet checked for blogs/race logs)
