I swam today at my Masters class. 2400 yds. The coach is getting us ready for the Postal swim on Sat where we will swim 1 hr straight. I have never done one of these before. Have any of you girls swam in a Postal? I'm a little nervous I have never swam an hr straight before.

Good luck and happy training this week everyone.

I did. About 10 miles biking on the trainer.  Did we decide walking counts as mileage toward the run?  I only run once a week but I walk every day.

Funny that the first week of our challenge falls on my rest week!!  So yes I did my workout but it was just a 2 mile run.  I won't get my swim in until tomorrow morning.  We are taking my oldest out to eat because he turns 16 tomorrow!!!  Ohhhh I hate that!!  My baby ...16...impossible.  Anyway his brother has a basketball game tomorrow night and Cameron has hockey practice tomorrow night on his birthday....so out to eat tonight it is!!!! Ok ......so how did I go from workout to that???  Ha Sometimes I just ramble!

I also found a swim coach to work with!!  She agreed to work with me as well as my brother!!  Can't wait!!  We will start Sunday!

That's an awesome amount of distance in the pool. You're a little over halfway towards the IM swim goal - in day one! Never done a Postal. I would just talk about the apprehension with your coach. If you can find a nice, easy pace, you may be surprised by how well you do. But listen to your coach - and to your instincts.

Ha ha. Luckily we've got five weeks to get in this challenge. Hope you guys are having fun eating out! My step-son turned 16 a couple months ago and it...is...just freaky! Happy early birthday to him!

That's awesome you've found a swim coach. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Gals,

I went for a run today and it felt great! It was my longest run yet of this year - 33 minutes. I am taking it slow and reminding myself of form. In doing that, I had a lot of energy to notice the beautiful surroundings. When I came back I felt envigorated and very efficiently churned out a bit more work. I reminded myself that when I am injured, it pays to do everything I can do, even if it's small. I am really looking forward to getting more of those runs in.

How's the IM going?

I swam last night for the first time since September !!!!  I always dread getting to and in the pool but once I am there I enjoy it.  Plus my coach is awesome.

Does anyone use a waterproof ipod?  One of the reasons I don't swim more is that I get soooo bored.

Hey Girls,

Sorry for the hiatus.  These past two weeks have been tough getting workouts in between work and, well, play!  Heading out the door for a run now.

I leave Friday PM for a 5 day winter trip in Baxter State Park with some friends - we are doing what is known as The Grand Traverse skiing from the north end of the park to the south end.  Averaging 10-12 miles/day (xc ski) with heavy packs.  I will post some pictures, that is for sure.

Hey what helps me with boredom in the pool (when I can get there) is to have a plan.  So I go planning on a specific workout.  A warm-up (say 200 yds consisting of 50 drill, 50 kick board, 50 drill, 50 kick board), then a set of a series of reps (like 6x 100 or 200, or whatever you want).  Then I plan on 200 yd cool down basically screwing around doing what I want.  Practice flip-turns, back stroke, breast stroke, hanging out watching the really good swimmers, la la.  I don't know if my way is advocated by anyone (besides me!) but I really don't like the pool.  I am an open water girl.  This gets me to do it.

Cheers,

Mandy

Amy I don't have a waterproof ipod but thinking I would so love it.  I get bored too.  Was just listening to music "in my mind."  LOL

Mandy that sounds like a fun trip!!

Marcy great job on your run yesterday!!

Lora thanks for the birthday wishes!!  He was very surprised because we had a stereo system installed in his truck.  He still has to wait over a month and 1 day to get his license.   You are right...feels freaky to have a 16 year old! LOL

Congrats on getting back in that water. Having a coach has got to be a sigh of relief! I just got a regular iPod two weeks ago, so it'll probably be a couple more years before I go waterproof. I hear they're awesome, though...

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes regarding me being under the weather. I'm still feeling like dirt, so no training for me the last three days or probably the next three days.

OK, ya'll. It's Sunday evening. Let's post how you've done in Week 1 of the Ironman challenge. I'm doing this, too, but - being sick this week - got very little done.

I did get in 800 yards of swimming, putting me around a quarter of the way done with my swim.

Hi Lora, hope you are feeling better today.

Here are my totals for the week:

Swim-6629.40 meters

This was a big week of swimming for me due to the Postal swim on Sat. That was great. I never thought that I could swim 1 hr straight with no rest. I ended up doing 2450 yrds, I am really starting to love swimming
