That's a lot of swimming, James!  On the other hand, here's some perspective.  Do you listen to the Zen and the Art of Triathlon podcast?  He was swimming a 12 mile race!  At least you'll be very confident in the swim for your HIM.

I like the idea of publishing goals for July.  At least I did until I added them all up. I ended up with intimidating results:

Swim: 8.05 miles
Bike: 163 miles
Run: 28 miles

This even includes a two week taper for my A race on August 1.  The big thing will be to remain consistent in training because these totals include hitting every single workout.

On second thought, after putting these goals in my training log, they might not be so difficult. Laughing

I need to set a goal for July the same as June.  A family vacation will take me out of training for a week so I need to do 4 weeks of training in a span of 3 weeks.

Bike:  200 miles
Run:   65 miles
Swim: 5 miles

Happy 4th of July to all!  Ia m going to see my folks and the in-laws this weekend, so I will get my runs and swim in when I can.

My mom signed me up for a little 5K at her church on Saturday morning, which turns out there are about 30 people signed up for it, so my prediction is a top 25 finish for me!

I'm in for the goal setting for July, though I need to look at my schedule before setting down numbers.

Lad-great job on your first Tri!  Congratulations.  Don't worry about the run, now you have a place to work from and improve.  The fact that you did it, with all that happened to you and your family that day, is commendable.  I loved reading your story.

Scott-Thanks for the info about the bike seats, still trying them and searching for the right one.  Without your advice I would have pushed through and made it worse.  Body Glide is a wonderful thing!

James-Thanks for sharing, we all need to be able to do that, including you.  My God, that does seem like a lot of swimming.  Great idea on the goal setting, that should keep us motivated.  Seems like most times it's hard to maintain a balance between home life, work and fun things.

Back in Memphis and had a great weekend! I took 4th overall in the 5K I ran and my son got a new PR in 28:47!

Today I got a 1000 OWS, followed by an hour of hills on the bike, followed by a 1.2 mile run!  Hope you all had a great 4th!

Just a wee bit of exercise, huh James?  Good job.

Does anyone else get nauseated trying to drink water during a run?  I know Tracy had said it feels like her throat closes when she tries to drink, that doesn't bother me.  As soon as the water hits my stomach, instant queasiness, like riding on a roller coaster going over the first big drop.

Yeah... throat definitely closes, as I was choking the last 1+ miles of the run, after the water went down wrong.

Maybe I just need to drink it from a sports bottle?

not sure I have ever felt queasy from drinking water on a run, but also wouldn't say I "drink" water as much as I would take a gulp of water. So I do not know if you are talking about drinking a cupful  or what. But for me, I will only take a quick gulp while in the midst of a run or bike.

So to answer your question, no I have not gotten queasy or choked on water while running. Not sure what to tell you, maybe someone else will have some input???

Personally, I cannot drink Gatorade.  I think all the sugar upsets me so I make sure I am getting water at aid stations.  On long rides, I take a package of eFuel (www.cranksports.com) and will mix it myself.  I make sure to drink about a water bottle an hour and, like James, am gulping about every 15 minutes.

On runs, I have to pause or walk slowly at the aid stations and try to drink a cup of water.

Which reminds me of the Dallas Marathon I did many years ago.  At the 20 mile mark, a group was handing out beer.  Not my best race, so yes, I took one.  Tasted great.

I thought I would compile our team goals in one spot, that way we will all know and can help motivate each other:

JFord (James)       Swim 10 miles     Bike 175 miles   Run  50 miles

Ladlehaus (Tom)  Swim 8.05 miles   Bike 163 miles   Run 28 miles  (1/5 of running miles completed)

Dalotajr (Tracy)    Swim 2 miles        Bike 100 miles   Run 25 miles   (.4 miles swimming 12 miles more biking and 1.2 running and you complete IM distance)

Sastuff (Scott)      Swim 5 miles       Bike 200 miles   Run 65 miles (already at 139 miles biking...salcker!  LOL)

wandering1          Swim 5 miles       Bike 200 miles   Run 15 miles  (already at 51 miles biked!)

I have these goals on a sticky note by computer at work, so I will be checking on you guys!  Feel free to kick me in the butt if you think I need it!

I do not know of anyone racing this weekend, but if I missed it, good luck and let me know!  Have a great weekend!

I was kicked out of the indoor pool today due to storms. First time this has ever happened to me. So I went home and put my trainer in the garage and pedaled while it rained. Wasn't to bad.

I am officially registered for my first Olympic Distance.  It is the Tri Arkansas on August 14.  If it goes well (I don't think I can gut it out like Tom), I will try the oddly named Toad Suck Olympic distance in September.

To finish out the season, there is the Heber Springs Sprint Triathlon on October 10.  I considered this last year, but it was just too cold by the time it rolled around and swimming sans wetsuit was not going to happen.  Just have to wait to see what kind of temperatures the fall brings.

Hi guys!  Been a long few days... on-call turned into being stuck at work.  Yell  But today is my first day of freedom!  Woot!  And I have some training time to log.

James... bummer about the pool.  Never seen them do that before.  But good for you of adjusting your training plan.

Scott... Woot!  Another tri on the horizon.  And the fact that there is a tri called Toad Suck, makes it almost mandatory that you should do it!!  lol!  I can see it now... "I placed 1st in the 2010 Toad Suck"  Surprised

My last swim tri will be Sept, but there is a adventure tri in Oct where you kayak instead of swim that I'm planning on doing. The distances are WAY longer, and I'm pushing to be ready for that.

This morning on my ride, I eclipsed last years total bike mileage!!  I am stoked about it and wondering how many miles I can get.

My run mile totals from last year will fall soon also!

Sorry had to share the joy!

James... good luck at your race!!  Is it a Spint or Olympic?

Renae & I, along with a couple other friends, are doing a 40 mile bike ride tomm.  There are some varying terrain and I'm pretty excited to try something new.  Nervous though.

James, hope you did well on your race today.

Tracy, what a great job on the ride, even with a flat tire.  Guess we both need to learn how to change those.

As for me....well...
I had an asthma attack about 9 miles into the 40 mile ride.  (Haven't been diagnosed with asthma)
They pulled me and I ended up in the ER.  I had a chest xray, breathing treatment and have been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma (complete with inhalers).  I feel kind of weird, a little apprehensive about the ride next weekend.  Actually, I'm scared, gonna do the ride because I need to, but still scared.
