Janyne - Wooohoooo nice race! The hard work paid off!!! (It Always does!) Plus, WINE!!!!!

Melanie - First and foremost, Fat Tire mmmm biscuit like flavor (read the label and you'll get it...) A great race, a double rainbow (what does it mean??!?!??!?!?!) and a podium ta boot! Nice job!

Kirsten - Very nice work stickin it out and listening to your body and doing the run walk. MOre importantly getting down a HOPPY IPA is quite the feat, post race. I am impressed!
Reece- Nice work on the century in the heat!

Felicia (and Ben) I might be functioning at about 1/3 capacity today. Did I miss your race comments? How did it go?

Also, this was a disaster. *Someone* (I'm  not saying who) got beer goggles (about 20 minutes in after WAY too many  Phelps/Lochte conversations) and started identifying just about everyone as a "hot" athlete.

"Hot Athlete, DRINK" cue Olympics theme song "DRINK" irrelevant London Landmark "DRINK" Royalty "DRINK" more royalty! "DRINK"

Umm... Yeah DW didn't make it through the A's in the parade of countries.  She saw the commercial with John Cleece in his underwear and said " I think I just saw John Cleece in his underwear, I'm going to bed"

Opening Ceremony - didn't see it all - I liked the bit where they played British music from the decades but lots of it was very much only a hit in Britain not even the rest of Europe let along the US.

Not sure why they did the history of Britain thing - you'd be hard ushed to top Athens on their history set!  I'm biased having lived in Athens for 5 years and being married to a proud Greek - I loved their opening ceremony soooo much.  Beijing was a spectacle too - funny how both these countries are in economic downward sprials - no doubt Britain next - Olympics = expensive.

And I reiterate my pointg, Sir Paul McCartney - you need to retire.

Problem livng in Australia - on the free to air channels (we don't have cable) all they show is events where Australia are competing with a hope and occasionally they will show something like any Phelps action.  So I keep getting treated to dressage and other horsey events - yawn.

Swimming I'm loving to watch - just their technique leaves me awestruck.  58secs to do 100m breaststroke - WTF!!!  I can't run 100m that fast!

Squad was busy last night - heading into August this week, all those people wanting to get their fitness back for summer turned up (lots of women!)  I think the Olympics either inspires or drives people out of the house!

We did sprint sets last night - 200m sprint, 200m recovery, 100m sprint 100m recovery, 50m sprint, 25m srpint etc.  Enjoyed it.

My lane buddy Robbie leaves for the UK on Wednesday so was his last squad.  He's off to the mighty English Channel, Rich is already there.  Fingers crossed for both.  Whatever happens I hope they stay safe and well.  Rich is only in his mid-twenties and Robbie is 61 looks abut 50.

I'm rambling. Bye for now!

Heh, I love the Beatles but sheeeesh. You might be right. There eventually comes a time where we aren't what we were...

AND WHY THE HECK DO THEY NEVER SING "Piggies" publicly!?!?

Agreed he was a bit off. Overall I liked the Opening Ceremony but I'm a big british History/literature geek so it works, how would you want to be the guy that reads Shakespeare to the queen on an olympic venue?  I've watched a bunch so far, gotta love the swimmer from last night, Missy Franklin with her back to back swims in under 10 for the Gold!!

Going for a ride today hoping about 2 hours, the ankle is good besides being black and blue from tiop of my foot to my ankle,  then a blood drive at work and dinner with friends, Happy tuesday pod!!

I'll definitely need to get up early for my bike/run/swim before heading out...although there are some places we can boat to that I can do some swimming in the ocean!

Other Olympics comments:

-I think Hope Solo and Brandi Chastain are about to have an all out on girl fight! I just hope Brandi pulls a "Chastain" for it...

-We muted the pommel horse event and put on Ginuwine's "My Pony" and it was quantifiably more exciting. Do it.

-Paula Radcliffe is out. That makes me really sad.

Can I ask what the point of the pommel horse is? What a weird event. There's actually a lot of that at the olympics.  Just, huh?

Hey Manatees... I don't know what my problem is the last couple days.  I was having some great workouts on friday and over the weekend.  My swim, bike and run all felt strong. I even ran up hills that I usually walk!  Then yesterday I was back to being a pool-brick. Today I started out on a run and felt sluggish from the start.  Then about a mile and a half in the dog decided to take off with some coyotes.  She usually runs off leash out in the desert and does a great job of coming back when I call her. Not today.  I yelled and yelled for her as I had visions of carrying her back to the house, torn to shreds.  She eventually came back,  unscathed.  After the sluggy start and the dog scare I was done so we headed home and only got a 3 mile run. Cry She may be grounded from running for a while, or at least relegated to running on leash...

Shake it off TJ, get some good sleep, jump back in, your MOJO will surface again.  I like the leash idea, better safe than sorry.

Yeah leash might not be a bad idea until she remembers to stay with you.  We all have off days take it as an active recovery day and come back at it tomorrow

So, more Olympics observations. I'm sorry. It's probably just my friends and I but we seem to notice all the awkward stuff but:

1. Aly Raisman's parents YIKES! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXmuyIGE6qU

2. How unnecessarily close the swim commentators stand??????

3. Aussie women's beach volleyball: Bra on outside of shirt???

1. OMG can you imagine dealing with them on a daily basis??? I saw it live and it was like, what the hell???  Her mother looked possessed.

2. RIght?? Can't the camera pan back a little so they can not look like lovers about to embrace yet still fit in the frame? Maybe they are in a REALLY small booth.

3. Haven't seen it, but HUH?

I would like to add, what's up with the high rise cut of the teenage girls leaotards?? Would something less crotch-enhancing inhibit their hip movement or something? And their bums are all over the place!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. You all are great at being the light at the end of the tunnel. BTW, Reece, I decided to take your advice and work on my bike engine before I worry about a compact crank. It was difficult to stick with that decision after the thread in TT yesterday, but I'd already told my husband so I'm holding firm.

In case anyone else hasn't found the Olympic Triathlon coverage I found it on NBC Sport at 2:00 AM (MDT) Saturday and 2:00 AM Tuesday (again, my time) for womens and mens respectively.

I started running again yesterday!!! Yaaaaaay! Also, we ran at the beach and then went paddle boarding afterwards.  My friend (/running buddy) was so sweet. Since we were going to run and paddle I wasn't going to have a chance to eat dinner so she picked me up with a nice little lunch/dinner packed for me saying, "I knew you would be hungry." Of course she probably only did it for her own safety because when I am hungry, someone will feel the wrath.
