I am pretty sure there are many others who enjoy it most then too! This made me laugh, this sums me up in the two tri-it-out tris I've done! NMS - 2013-05-12 5:36 AM Mostly I loved it once I was over the finish line ;-) But seriously, what a great day out! Congratulations on finishing so well and having such a good time through all the challenges |

Member 45 | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED NMS - 2013-05-11 4:06 Yup this is me. I get obsessed by things buy all the stuff and get bored just after I spent all that money. Last year it was cake decorating! I now own a cupboard full of equipment and hardly ever bake. I wonder is it something about that type of personality that attracts someone to triathlons? There is certainly plenty to obsess about. I really think this is one obsession I will stick with though, mostly because of all the benefits that come with it, such as fitness and weight loss. They are just bonuses to something that I really enjoy doing. I also quite fancy the idea of being a 60 year old granny on a carbon bike smoking past all the cool dudes in a few years..... For me it is often an almost manic on/off with things an all or nothing approach. So I am not entirely surprised that a whim to try and pick up running and shed a few lbs almost a year ago has led to me training to participate in tris. Everything about this sport is up my alley, gadgets, competition, gear, numbers/metrics and competition. While the highs tend to burn off I can often keep some of the momentum going to not let the habits and benefits of this adventure dissolve. Scary to say I'm actually enjoying the training, the training for an event I haven't even decided on or signed up for! Serious props for finishing today btw...that must feel awesome! Been there done that. But in reality you did a great job and won your age group as well. Excellent!!!!!! You deserve a night of rest and relaxation and bask in your glory. Beth |

Firstly thank you for the good luck messages, secondly it was brilliant!!! I won my age group :-). My times were:Swim 16:56 (750 metres) T1 3:12 bike 50.59 (20k) T2 1.46 run 32.32 (5k) total time 1.45.22The weather wasn't great, I discovered that hail stones really sting when you are cycling in a tri suit! The bike course had a few truly killer hills on the way back. Going down them on the way out and realising I had to get back up them on the way back was humbling. It was also extremely windy and I got buffeted about quite a bit by strong gusts, nearly ending up in a ditch more than once. But I survived, I finished it and I loved it. Mostly I loved it once I was over the finish line ;-)The organisation of the race was brilliant, lots of marshals, police motorbikes etc, and a finishers medal, ( i do love a medal never having won anything as a child). The goody bag contained a long sleeved tech t shirt and a water bottle for the bike. Lots of free food provided for afterwards and drinks at the finish line. The prize giving was nice too, our club did well, I was totally surprised to win my age group as I hadn't seen anyone else's time just my own at the finish. My prize was £10 (about 15 dollars). Which I gave to my 14 year old son who had got up early to come and support me.I am tired but very happy :-). I am also totally hooked and can't wait for the next one (June 8th) Fantastic! So proud of you! It's so easy to get hooked |

You overcame alot this week after being sick and the bad weather you mentioned. It's funny thought that when you look back on the race those things will make it that much better of a story, that much more impressive, and that much more support, that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. |

This line just cracked me up, not because it's not true, but because it likely is true. We are young if we work at staying young, and doing it on carbon makes it even better. |

I ran my best 5K EVER this morning and came in under 30 minutes! I'm so excited and can still hardly believe it! When I was 13 or so I used to run cross country on the high school team and my fastest mile was 8:03. I have never run a mile like that again but today I averaged around a 9:39 pace which makes me think that seeing the 8s again one day is possible. A couple of years ago when I started running again I was a 14 minute miler and by the end of the year had gotten to around 12s. This year I've been around 11 but apparently I'm even faster than I thought! I'm so so so excited and just had to share it with everyone! I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! They say the only way to run faster is to run faster. So I did!
GOOD FOR YOU GIRL !! I was static this week when I ran a 5K and that was 31:44 and then I could'nt believe I did 5 Miles friday and that was in 51.39. I havent run this much since 1994-1996 when I was 16 and in shape playing soccer. I gotta say, you must feel incredible and we are all happy to share your accomplishments with you. |

I was looking at a Specialized Allez Compact with essentially the same components for $300 more. sounds like a pretty good deal. Im not very knowledgeable about bikes but i have read somewhere that bikes that do not have a 10 speed cassette are harder to find replacement for. 9 speed cassettes are somewhat common. 8 speed is not that common to my knowledge. So it may be harder and more expensive to upgrade components. I watch craigslist in my area and see quite a few nice bikes that have hardly been used. I bought my wife a 1000 dollar Fuji with less than 100 miles on it for $100. |

That is awesome! We have a zombie run here in Denver where you can sign up as a human and be chased, or you can sign up as a zombie (full face paint and everything) and chase the humans. There are so many fun 5ks now. Undy 5000 anyone? |

New user 12 Colorado | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED So, I did my first bike ride with my new pedals yesterday. I had never ridden attached to my bike before, so I was a little nervous. I had also never ridden on the actual road with traffic, I have always done paved bike trails so I don't have to deal with cars. I would say it was successful; I did fall once when a car passed rather close and I dropped off the pavement. It was actually kind of good as I am not as afraid to fall now. Pedal on!! |
