IUScott99 - 2011-05-10 2:40 PM Who has ordered myathletegps thingy? About to pull the trigger on the day rental. Figure for my wife\kids and my parents it will take the guess work of when I will arrive back to start the run off the bike. I would hate to tell them to trust the ahtlete tracker on ironman.com with hearing with IMSG that was up to 45 to hour delay..

I went ahead and gave them money.  I hope it takes some guess work out of my wifes day so she knows where to have our small boys during the race

Raises hand! I had this for Longhorn 70.3 last October and ordered it for this race as well. Wife and family (even my brother in Alaska) said it was really cool to be able to see real time where I was on the course and even how fast I was going. My brother even e-mailed me a screen shot of the app showing me when I was passing someone else who had the myathlete gps ..

This way, once I head out on the bike, the wife and squid can go back to the hotel since it is so close and hang out there, take a nap, or let the kid swim in the pool and still be able to see how I am doing and will know when to start heading back to transition to see me come back in off the bike. Definitely worth the price of admission!

What's an extra 50$ in the scheme of things at this point!

Yes, pad the thread - we're getting closer to that 100 page mark. If I pad this thread enough I might even get my post count to 1000 before race day!

An IV and a ride to the ER after I cross the finish line will be sufficient.

I have a feeling feedback will be fast for the next 11 days or so.

If it rains I hope it rains the entire day.  A little downpour mid day will make for a VERY humid finish- as opposed to a humid finish

X2 Patrick.
Rain is the last thing that we want on race day. If anything it will just make it seem hotter than normal.
We'll be wishing for a cool day in the mid 90's once it is July/August.

It is only hot if you look at the temperature.

Words of advice from me to you. For the next few days, it may not be a great idea to walk around barefoot. Too darn easy to stub your toes. Ouch

I'm not going to worry about the weather yet. for IMCOZ the forecast was a high in the mid 80's and it hit 94 on the run.

x2 in the Glide. Laughing  I am going to order one of these trackers this evening when I get home.  I can't say that I will nail my goal times now, so this will help my wife and kids.

FYI- I e-mailed the MyAthleteGPS folks to make sure they would be laying out the course map with the tracker and they said they are all set up to do so. So, there won't be just random dots out there with no relation as to where we are...

Marci,
The only time my shoes are off are in the pool or in bed. Breaking my toe 9 days before IMFL10 really sucked. I've even stopped running in dark.
Stay careful everyone!

had a really good OWS this evening. The winds died down and the lake was really calm. Beautiful night to be in the water and the water temp was perfect!

Ordered the tracker also. Do they send the website to view tracking and all the info with the device?

Yes, they send the GPS device and give you a link to the website where the bike and run course are preloaded.. go to this website and click on one of the athlete names on the right and you can get an idea of what the map will look like. Whoever is watching you will see all the athlete names in the race and can select you or any other athlete to track

I mentioned this to my husband and he said "better get the bubble for you!"

I'm horribly clumsy. I once broke my foot 10 days before a half marathon without having the slightest idea what I did to break it.

I know this has been discussed some threads back, but I'll put this out there. Since there will be bottle handups every 10 miles on the bike, then one could actually just have an aero drink bottle and just keep reloading it every 30 min or 40 min (10 mile intervals). I am thinking of doing this and just have one cage on the bike for a water bottle for gels and food. What is everyone else considering? I have a super wing with two additional cages, but I am thinking that would be an over kill, and extra weight.
