I would be planning race strategy already and setting real high expectations. Then I would train my butt off to try and achieve those expectations. Yes I would be excited.

And no I am not a machine, just a stubborn old Slovak. I am also reconsidering never running another 100 miler again. I do not want to be to hasty and make rash decisions.

My how some thing in our life change and thank god for me in a good way for a change.
Ron, I went running with my daughters tonight, and I told them all about you and your race. They couldn't understand how anyone could run 100 miles, and I still really can't either. It is so cool how this has become one if your passions. I feel lucky to know you. Great RR. I especially liked that you danced at the end. Major props :) #6, 3 with my girls.

Originally posted by navbtcret Day 633 and 634, 100.5 miles between the two days. The quick down and dirty, finished in 21 hours and 32 minutes and I believe 12 seconds. I think I was 10th overall and won my age group but will not know for sure until the official results are posted in the next few days on their site. I am so sore and exhausted even after a little nap today. The weather was hot, low to mid 80's and no shade until late in the afternoon, like after 7 pm it was tough but the humidity was not bad. I came in at the 50 mile half way point in just over 8 hours and 30 minutes but obviously my pace was to fast for the conditions as because it took it's toll after 62.5 miles. I completed that in 11 hours and 32 minutes but had to spend extra time in the aide stations after that. I ended up spending almost two hours in the aide station and porta johns but managed to persevere. It was so nice having a pacer the last 25 miles, the first 12.5 were not very great but I started motoring again the last 12.5 as you will be able to see my miles splits from the Garmin link I post. It has been an incredible journey to get here and I feel very humble in this accomplishment. I learned a lot about 100 mile ultras and the first thing is I REALLY have no desire to do another even though some of the veterans that raced said I should because I did so well in my first but they can have then. It just takes too much of a commitment to training to do well in this distance and I do not think I want to do it again. We'll se in a few days when I am feeling a little better. Did I mention how bad I feel, I chafed in places I never chafed before and place that a man should not and I'll leave it at that. Surprisingly I only have one blister and it is not in a bad place, the inside of my big toe, I attribute that to the Injini toe socks that I wear. Also my streak may be in jeopardy tomorrow because I feel so bad and am having trouble just walking right now but I made peace with the fact that that could happen when I signed up for this race. I will do everything in my power to run at least a mile tomorrow though I have until about 11:30 at night to get out and get it done. One last thing, if I never have to eat another shot block or gel again in my life it will be to soon. I did eat some good food in the aide stations though, pb&j's, grilled cheese sandwiches, and I also had one slice of pizza along with the normal oranges, watermelon, bananas, and such. Thank you all for sharing this journey with me and your support leading up to it. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/361051767

Hey Chief, I've been following you.  Great work!  Congratulations!  You continue to be a motivating factor.....even as I face probable knee surgery.

Thanks for keeping up to date on your workouts, progress, and ultimately your race.......awesome dude....really!!  Thanks!

Day 636, 2.5 painful miles. My whole left side is a wreck, hamstring is tight, calf is tight, going to lose every toe nail on that foot and for some reason my big toe is half again the size it should. Hopefully that swelling will go down soon. On a good note I ran 10:30 miles today.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

Left Brain I hope if you do need surgery that you come back strong. Hopefully just some rehab will fix it for you though.

I only have one normal looking toenail on my left foot, 2 are definitely coming off, maybe 3, and I haven't run anywhere close to 100 miles. I'd be happy to have toes after that distance.

I probably should but I don't have any way to take video.  I'm actually not even sure  could figure out how to post it. I really suck at stuff like that.  I'm thinking of getting a GoPro because I'd really like to see my swim issues.

I've been watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSGzqkjrWRA&list=FLBDaifbQgu_mCP67izEp5Vw&index=8

that Don Larkin (TriMyBest) posted in a thread in TriTalk, and I've determined I really have no lean at all.  I'm very up and down.  Don't know if I can correct for that or not, but it could help me gain some speed.  Maybe? Possibly?

Day 637, 6.1 miles at a 9:32 pace. Feeling a bit better but definitely going to lose 4 toe nails on my left foot if not all five. The blisters are healing up good so I should be ready for the marathon on the 1st of September. It will not be real fast but it'll be fun. I have been wanting to get real drunk sometime the night before a marathon and then run it hung over, maybe this will be the one.

Just for old times sake? (you ran your first race like that, if memory serves)

I may have to dedicate a little corner of my pain cave to you, Ron.  Keepin it real.

I know :)

Funny thing is, this marathon will probably be easier for you than that 5K, lol!

Day 24 - about 2 miles. My legs felt like lead. Sunday was a race, Monday was bike time trials, Tuesday was 4 miles of speed work, and my run tonight followed a 32 mile bike. Most of my rides are 15-20, so my legs were just weak, and my energy level was pretty low. Oh well, it's in the books.

#295-11 mi.

Condensing the training this week a bit, flying out on Sat. night. I have all the times worked out, I am running before the flight, and running when I get to where I am staying, it will be about 3 am our time, so I will be ahead. My legs are already feeling a bit heavy from the extra volume, some jet lag on top of that aught to be wonderful.

Have a safe trip, ImSore.

Tried heading out for 6 tonight, but I fell apart around 4. I was averaging better than normal times, but my legs were just exhausted and I had to give it up. Too many leg intensive workouts earlier this week to suddenly up my distance and hold a faster pace. But I feel good about what I was able to do regardless.
