Hi Cat!

Did you figure out what to do about your employee?

oh, not so much

well, I know how I need to approach the coaching and today was the first real step - it's likely to be a long couple of months

more so for her -

I just hope in the end she knows the feedback I'm giving is because I care and I want her to be successful and in a position that she can succeed in

Good. Got through another day at work. Swam. Almost forgot to take the kids to their hair appointments. Had dinner with my son. Fussed at DD for lying to me that her homework was finished so she could with a friend to a Halloween carnival. Just another day.

How 'bout you?

Sounds like you're a good boss. Everyone needs to know their weaknesses so they can improve.

LOL!  I love the fact that I am not alone in the forgetting and the fussing areas of life

as for me, I had a tough day - had to counsel/coach an employee - not much fun, lots of tears

Doesn't realize she doesn't know and is defensive or just doesn't know squat to do the job properly?

Yeah and having someone tell you what yuo dont know - especially if you are ok in those areas is really tough...

It can take a little while to understand the difference in perspective between you and your boss... and its hard not to initially just take it as either an insult or that they dont like you or are just being critical.

Im sure once you map out for her what you need her to do in small goals and steps in order to improve her skills she will feel a lot happier about what she needs to do and where you are coming from...

I'm hoping so

in the end, I really just want her to feel good about what she is doing

right now she is really frustrated because it's not a good fit - IMHO

Too bad she can't just take it as constructive criticism on a professional level instead of taking it as a personal assault on her intelligence. No drama, no tears.

Im guessing if she is currently frustrated with the way things are right now this is just an extra level on top of that frustration.

Also if she is in the early part of her career she may not have had a boss willing to mentor/guide her yet - so she might not know how to recognise it as a good thing.

Im guessing she might be a bit younger? You dont just go into the workforce knowing the correct way to act... sometimes you have to learn the simple things... youd be surprised!

And I have lost it at work (twice) and trust me Im pretty sure she did NOT want to cry infront of her boss! In fact thats probably the last thing she wanted to end up happening...

you truly could not have pegged the situation more accurately

so, at this point - I hope that some day she will look back on today (or on the days to come) and feel she learned something

Yeah, I'm a creature of habit and apparently I have strong muscle memory when it comes to such things.
